Ex-convict Wicknell Chivayo has derided his detained business partners, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, calling them “petty criminals” rather than friends.
In a post on the social media platform X, Chivayo claimed that Chimombe and Mpofu are facing “inevitable conviction” for fraud related to two tender scandals: the goat supply scheme and street light contracts, in which they allegedly falsified documents and misappropriated millions of USD for personal gain.
Chivayo has previously referred to the pair as “incompetent idiots,” labelling one as his “teaboy” and the other as a “shoe-polisher.”
Chimombe and Mpofu are accused of defrauding the government in a US$7.7 million scheme involving the President’s Goats Initiative and a US$9 million tender for street lights from Harare City Council.
Their arrest followed their exposure of an alleged US$100 million corruption scandal involving the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and several high-ranking state officials.
In response to a question on X from user LynneM, who asked, “Hana yako hairove here kana uchinzwa kuti your friends [Chimombe] &amp; Mpofu are rotting in Chikurubi?” Chivayo replied:

Chivayo Mocks Detained Partners, Calls Them "Incompetent Idiots" And "Petty Criminals" Whose Conviction "Is Inevitable"

The investigating officer from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) handling the case of Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, accused of defrauding the State of US$7 million, informed the court on Tuesday that the prosecution plans to call 13 witnesses in the trial.
Mpofu and Chimombe are accused of forging documents to win the tender of supplying goats under the Presidential Goat Scheme.
They are being represented by Arshiel Mugiya and Tapson Dzvetero.
According to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/13-witnesses-for-chimombe-mpofu-case/">The Herald</a>, as of Tuesday, 02 July, the investigating officer Henry Chapwanya recorded statements from six witnesses, with plans to obtain at least eight more.
Chapwanya argued that due to this ongoing process, bail should be denied to the accused individuals to prevent potential interference with witnesses. He said:

The accused persons know most of the witnesses because they interacted with them during negotiations for the tender at the Ministry of Agriculture.

Prosecutor Anesu Chirenje presented documentary evidence, a circulated memo on social media by the accused persons, indicating that the Government allocated approximately US$4 million for the project.
This contradicts the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s release, which stated the amount as US$7 million.
The proceedings were scheduled to resume today, July 3, with the defence lawyers expected to cross-examine Chapwanya.
It is important to note that Chimombe and Mpofu were only charged after they clashed with Wicknell Chivayo, regarding the distribution of funds from a controversial US$40 million deal to supply election materials to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) ahead of the 2023 general elections.
On February 13, 2023, Mpofu and Chimombe allegedly entered into an agreement with South Africa-based Ren-Form CC to participate in ZEC tenders alongside Chivayo but were subsequently sidelined.
They are currently seeking US$10 million from Chivayo for lost earnings.
Furthermore, Chimombe and Mpofu are accused of leaking audio recordings in which Chivayo purportedly asserted that Mnangagwa and other high-ranking government officials were under his influence.

ZACC Investigator Says 13 Witnesses Planned In Chimombe And Mpofu's Fraud Case

Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee has summoned the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for questioning later this week over an alleged multi-million dollar tender involving convicted criminal and President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s associate Wicknell Chivayo, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200029083/zec-gate-poll-body-faces-probe">NewsDay</a>.
Chalton Hwende, the chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, confirmed inviting ZEC to the National Assembly on Friday, July 5, adding that the meeting would be open to the public. He wrote on X:

This week, as we continue with our oversight role @ZECzim will appear before the Public Accounts Committee on Friday 5 July at 10 AM at the Parliament of Zimbabwe. This meeting is open to the public and the media.

A leaked recording of a conversation between Chivayo and his former business partners Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe suggests that the trio was involved in a deal with a South African company, Ren-Form CC, worth over US$40 million, for the supply of election material to ZEC ahead of the 23 August 2023 general elections.
Acting as agents on ZEC’s behalf, the three allegedly inflated invoices but later fell out over a disagreement on the sharing of the loot.
Chimombe is a ZANU PF central committee member and president of the Economic Empowerment Group which is aligned with the ruling party.
ZEC recently issued a statement refuting any involvement with Chivayo and his former associates in procuring election materials, asserting that all their procurement processes were conducted transparently.
However, leaked Treasury documents, including invoices, reveal that Ren-Form CC had engaged Betterbrands, owned by ZANU PF legislator Pedzisayi “Scott” Sakupwanya, which subsequently partnered with Chivayo and his associates.
Mpofu and Chimombe have accused Chivayo of unlawfully altering their contract with Ren-Form and Betterbrands for supplying election materials to ZEC, allegedly profiting from corruption alone in the process.
Reports are indicating that some of these electoral materials have yet to be delivered, despite payments being made by the Treasury.
Last week in the Senate, CCC Senator Sengezo Tshabangu raised concerns about why the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion settled invoices for portable toilets and translucent light boxes that were never received. Said Tshabangu:

There is an allegation that ZEC, which is a product of Chapter 12 of our Constitution, engaged a South African company to deliver materials for the 2023 elections, but the company has not delivered the materials to date.
The invoice which amounts to US$9 million was authorised by the Ministry of Finance after the elections.
My question is: why did the Ministry of Finance settle the full invoice amounting to over US$9 million, which went through its banker CBZ on September 7, 2023, for the procurement of portable toilets, V11 forms and translucent light boxes that were never delivered?
</blockquote>
Senate Deputy President Mike Nyambuya advised Tshabangu to formalize the query in writing.
He also directed the question to Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Deputy Minister Nobert Mazungunye, who requested additional time to thoroughly investigate and verify the allegations before responding. Said Mazungunye:

As far as I am concerned, I feel that question is a specific one which might require time to go back and research more on it and maybe if we do our findings, then we can properly respond to that matter.
At the moment, there are still allegations which are not substantiated as has been said already but we may need to go and verify again.

Meanwhile, Chimombe and Chivayo are currently held in remand prison following their arrest on charges related to defrauding the government in an $88 million Presidential Goat Pass-on scheme.
On June 24, Mpofu and Mike Chimombe, accompanied by their legal representatives, voluntarily presented themselves to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) to cooperate with investigations into the alleged ZEC tender scandal.
However, they left the ZACC offices without being interviewed. According to reports, the investigating officer, Henry Chapwanya, indicated he was occupied with another case and would schedule interviews when available.
Critics argue that the arrests of Mpofu and Chimombe concerning the goat scheme are a diversion aimed at shielding Chivayo and the high-ranking government officials allegedly implicated in the ZEC deal.

Parliament Summons ZEC Over Alleged Multi-Million Dollar Tender Scandal

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has denied ever engaging Wicknell Chivayo and his erstwhile business associates to procure election material on its behalf in the run-up to the 23 August 2023 general elections.
This follows media reports of a fallout between Chivayo and his former business partners, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, allegedly over the sharing of millions of USD fraudulently acquired from ZEC through inflating invoices.
Mpofu and Chimombe have accused Chivayo of fraudulently changing their contract with South African company Ren-Form and Better Brands to supply voting material to ZEC, and in the process, pocketing the proceeds of corruption alone.
However, Chivayo has denied the charges, saying Chimombe and Mpofu used advanced Artificial Intelligence to fabricate voice notes purportedly recorded and shared by the former, making it appear as if he self-incriminated.
In a statement issued on Friday evening, ZEC said that it never engaged Chimombe, Mpofu and Chivayo, saying all its procurements were above board. Reads the statement:

We have noted with great concern social media posts and rumours circulating online, that are causing public alarm and despondency and we would like to put it on record that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has no contract nor did it procure any election material from or through individuals being mentioned in the reports.
All materials procured for the 2023 Harmonised Elections were obtained in line with procurement regulations and there was due diligence as all tender processes were subjected to oversight.
We challenge all those alleging that the Commission has a contract with the three individuals to come forward and present the same.
We want to also publicly declare that the actual amounts used for the procurement of all the election materials were far less than the figures being mischievously circulated on social media. All election materials procured during the 2023 Harmonised Elections were delivered on time.
The Commission has also checked with the supplier who categorically stated in writing that they did not have any contract with the same individuals for the supply of election materials during the 2023 Harmonised Elections.
Furthermore, there were no third parties between the Commission and all election material suppliers.
Any statements suggesting a contractual link between ZEC and these individuals for the supply of the 2023 Harmonised Elections materials are inaccurate, misleading and mischievous and therefore should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve.
The Commission assures all its stakeholders that all procurements were above board.

We Never Engaged Chivayo For Election Material Procurement, Says ZEC

The Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC), a group made up of over 90 non-governmental organisations (NGOs), has urged law enforcement agencies to take action against anyone who steals from the state, regardless of their position in society.
In a statement, CiZC spokesperson Marvellous Kumalo said the capture of the State by criminals has reached”alarming” levels. Said Kumalo:
<blockquote>
The current events in our nation are alarming… We urge all Zimbabweans to stand up against the Chivayo mafia and all syndicates capturing the state. Our country is at risk, and soon we may be left with no country.
</blockquote>
Kumalo’s statement comes after Wicknell Chivayo and his business partners Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe turned against him and exposed a murky US$40 million Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) deal.
The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on Sunday said it was investigating the contract.
However, Kumalo claimed that the undue control over various branches of the government and the Executive by criminals was concerning. He said:

What Zimbabwe is currently facing under President Mnangagwa can be described as a form of criminal state capture by his associates who are involved in corrupt business with the president.
We urge law enforcement agencies to impartially hold accountable anyone who steals from the state, even if they claim to have the backing of the President. 
Scandals such as the ZEC and the Ministry of Local Government’s mishandling of fire-tender contracts cannot be overlooked.
</blockquote>
Better Brands company, owned by ZANU PF Member of Parliament, Scott Sakupwanya, was reportedly involved in the contract to supply election-related material to ZEC in the run-up to the 23 August 2023 general elections.
Kumalo said this jeopardises ZEC’s independence and its ability to oversee fair elections. He said:
<blockquote>
The disarray witnessed with the delayed arrival of ballot papers and other election materials is evidence of the flawed tendering process and its inefficiencies.
It’s been confirmed that some suppliers provided materials to ZEC without going through a competitive tender process.
The August 2023 election had a budget of US$188 million. It did not have proper costing and worse, no transparent procurement process.
</blockquote>
Kumalo said evidence has emerged that a server, which typically costs US$4 700 was purchased for US$1.2 million. He said:
<blockquote>
This raises questions about the philosophy of ‘gutsa ruzhinji’ when a select few are looting state resources to buy cars.
The US$188 million misspent could have been used to secure grain for citizens affected by drought or purchase much-needed hospital equipment for public hospitals.
It’s deeply concerning when taxpayers are forced to travel to South Africa for cancer treatments and other complex surgeries due to the lack of proper facilities at home…
It is disheartening to see the links between the illicit ZEC funds and the turmoil in parliament. It’s especially troubling that a recipient of this money was able to enter Parliament as the uncontested representative of the Mabvuku-Tafara constituency.
This undermining of Parliament is damaging to our democracy, particularly if, as mentioned earlier, the executive, the legislature, and the judiciary all seem to be influenced by this aggressive criminal mafia.
</blockquote>
Kumalo demanded the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry to thoroughly investigate state capture and the “ZEC-gate” scandal, adding that those found guilty should be punished.

Crisis In Zimbabwe Coalition Calls For A Commission Of Inquiry On State Capture

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) says it has gathered more documentary evidence into a case of alleged money laundering and abuse of office involving Wicknell Chivayo, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu.
Mpofu and Chimombe are embroiled in a dispute with Chivayo over the supply of election materials to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) in the run-up to the 23 August 2023 general elections.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the swearing-in of High Court Judges at the Constitutional Court in Harare on Monday, June 17, Reza said they have built a strong case against the trio. He said:
<blockquote>
I can tell you, right now we have some documents which we want to show the three gentlemen and I hope I am not prejudicing investigations, but I want Zimbabwe to know that we have not been sitting on this investigation.
We have collected certain facts and when that information comes on form 242 and if everything goes according to plan, we will use this to go to court. You will see detailed information with facts, figures and numbers. You will see those things mark my words.
</blockquote>
Reza warned the three men that should they fail to present themselves voluntarily to ZACC, they would visit them.
<blockquote>
We know they have their rights but we have our time limit. If they don’t come we will go after them… Zimbabweans should know that ZACC is not toothless. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said there are no sacred cows.
I want Zimbabweans to know that there are no sacred cows in the fight against corruption and that is the stance we have taken as ZACC.
</blockquote>
Chimombe and Mpofu accuse Chivayo of fraudulently changing their contract with South African company Ren-Form and Better Brands to supply voting material to ZEC.
The US$40 million tender was for the supply of biometric voter registration kits and other electoral materials to ZEC during the 2023 general elections.
It is alleged that in cahoots with Ren-Form officials, Chivayo later fraudulently amended the agreement to remove his fellow business partners and grabbed the money for himself, 66% of the payments.
On Sunday, ZACC spokesperson Thandiwe Mlobane said they will interview Mpofu, Chimombe, and Chivayo to gather more information and gain clarity on the alleged ZEC deal. The three men are said to be currently out of the country.

ZACC Has More Evidence Against Chivayo - Reza

ZANU PF is reportedly divided on how to react to the scandal involving Wicknell Chivayo, an ex-convict who has been dishing out cash and expensive cars to selected people in the party.
Weeks after Chivayo appeared in public with President Emmerson Mnangagwa during several State functions, audio recordings have surfaced of the “businessman” claiming that Mnangagwa and other senior government officials were in his “pockets”.
Chivayo claimed Mnangagwa considers him a “son” and that he was using his relationship with the President to enrich himself. 
He accused his erstwhile business partners Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu of creating the audio using advanced technology as part of an elaborate scheme to extort money from him.
Chivayo and the duo are reportedly fighting over the spoils of a murky US$40 million deal to supply election materials to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) in the run-up to the 2023 general elections.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200028390/chivayo-saga-divides-zanu-pf">The Standard</a> reported an unnamed ZANU PF politburo member as saying top party officials have been quizzing Mnangagwa over some questionable characters that are always at State House. Said Politburo member:

The issue of concern on this whole Chivayo saga is why ZANU PF has largely remained quiet when he has dragged the party leader into the mud.
Party bigwigs have been questioning Mnangagwa over shoddy characters that are always at the State House.
That is the reason the party has not spoken about the Chivayo issue.
They are asking, ‘Who is Chivayo?’ He is not a ZANU PF member but an overzealous opportunist, who got closer to the powers that be.

Last week, the ZANU PF Youth League warned Chivayo against abusing the name of the Party and State structures for self-aggrandisement.
A senior party member said the Youth League is the mouthpiece of the party elites and Chivayo “got the message”. Said the official:

That is the reason you saw the youth league quickly intervening to fight in Mnangagwa’s corner because ZANU PF is saying it cannot intervene in that scandal.
The youth league is the mouthpiece of the party elites, and the message was delivered to Chivayo. He got it.

On Sunday, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) said it will interview Mpofu, Chimombe, and Chivayo to gather more information and gain clarity on the alleged ZEC deal.
Speaking to The Standard, Chivayo denied allegations that he was denied entry into State House last week. He said:
<blockquote>
I have never been to the State House (last week) and I have no intentions of going there,” Chivayo told The Standard.
I am in Zimbabwe as we speak and I’m not leaving anytime soon as I have a family to look after and a church that requires my active participation.

Mpofu and Chimombe, who had entered into an agreement with South Africa-based Ren-Form CC, on February 13, 2023, to participate in ZEC tenders before Chivayo allegedly sidelined them, are demanding US$10 million in lost earnings.

Wicknell Chivayo Scandal Divides ZANU PF

The ZANU PF Youth League has sternly warned Wicknell Chivayo against abusing the name of the Party and State structures for self-aggrandisement.
In leaked voice notes circulating on social media platforms, Chivayo boasts about his influence, stating that President Emmerson Mnangagwa and State structures are under his control.
Chivayo is also heard on the audios, which were apparently sent in January this year to a closed WhatsApp group which included his now estranged business partners, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, claiming to have made several payments to senior government officials to secure tenders.
Chivayo owns half a dozen Rolls Royce cars and has given away more than 100 vehicles to ZANU PF-aligned public figures, including musician Jah Prayzah, in less than a year.
In a statement, ZANU PF Youth League Secretary for Information and Publicity Phillipa Mukoko said that while they appreciate Chivayo’s donations to society, the Party will not allow him to abuse its name and that of the President for self-aggrandizement. Reads the statement:

The Youth League has noted with serious concern the malicious, unfounded and scandalous utterances by Mr Wicknell Chivhayo widely circulated on social media.
His mischievous claims purporting to be very close to His Excellency the President Cde Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa are unfortunate and regrettable.
Whilst the Youth League appreciates donations that Mr Chivhayo has been giving to the members of our society, in his own capacity as an ordinary citizen, and, although we do not know the source of his income, let it be firmly known that as the vanguard of ZANU PF we will not just sit and watch the name of our most revered leader being tarnished by such malcontents for their own self-aggrandizement.
Our President has an open-door policy which must never be abused. We have realized that Mr Wicknell Chivhayo has abused his access to the leadership.
Let it be known by whoever is concerned that our tried and tested leader is a statesman of the highest calibre, integrity, standing and repute.
The Youth League, therefore, calls upon Mr Chivhayo and his accomplices to desist from using the name of our President in their nefarious shenanigans.
We further call upon all the relevant authorities to look into this matter to protect our revered leader and the national interests of our motherland, Zimbabwe.
Furthermore, the Youth League expresses grave concern at the video being circulated by Mr Chivhayo where he is seen at Bulawayo Airport with some of the Youth League members to give an impression that they were welcoming him.
As a matter of fact, the video in question is a misrepresentation and was taken on 26 April 2024, when the Youth League leadership was at Bulawayo International Airport waiting to welcome His Excellency the President Cde Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa who was scheduled to attend the 2024 ZITF which was officially opened by President of the Republic of Kenya Dr William Ruto.
The League wishes to put it on record that Mr Chivhayo does not hold any influential position in the Party that warrant him to have a delegation receiving him at the airport. Such an arrangement is a preserve for the President and Head of State only.
We sternly warn him to abstain from abusing Party and Government structures for his brute personal agenda.

ZANU PF Youth League Warns Chivayo Against Abusing Party And State Structures

Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has issued a statement distancing himself from alleged voice recordings in which he purportedly claimed to have captured President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Chivayo accuses Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu of employing advanced Artificial Intelligence to fabricate the voice note, making it appear as if he self-incriminated. Reads the statement:
<blockquote>
STATEMENT ON VOICE MESSAGES CIRCULATING ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
It has been brought to my attention that there are voice messages purportedly being attributed to me which are circulating on various social media platforms. In these ‘voice notes’ I am alleged to have either communicated the impression that I wield certain influence over particular authorities of the State or that I intended to facilitate the making of certain payments to named individuals. In the public interest, I wish to make the following statement conscientiously in order to state the correct and factual position on this subject;
1. I categorically refute, deny and dismiss with contempt, recording the voice messages in question. For the avoidance of any doubt I have never, at any material time, recorded the alleged voice messages, neither have I transmitted such to anyone. I therefore unequivocally distance and totally dissociate myself from these unauthentic voice messages. I have reason to believe that these recordings were generated through sophisticated technology, all with the fraudulent intention of creating false alarm and despondency.
2. The content and character of the alleged voice messages is however consistent with a sustained attack on my character and standing as a businessman by two excitable individuals who have recently made outrageous demands for certain payments from me without any legal or contractual basis of doing so. These two failed , struggling briefcase businessmen MIKE CHIMOMBE and MOSES MPOFU are merely overzealous extortionists and fraudsters who solely rely on opportunistic delinquency as a means of survival. If their demands for payment were indeed genuine, the duo should have approached the Courts of law for redress. 
3. No amount of intimidation, coercion or duress will ever result in the unlawful making of payments that are not due or payable by me. I am fully prepared for any litigation or other consequence arising from demands by these two which are entirely premised on non-existent, fallacious, unlawful and extortionate grounds. I fully reserve my rights to take stern legal action against these two for conduct that is grossly defamatory and that is well calculated to put my name and business interests into disrepute.
4. I categorically deny having any business relationship with these two illiterate individuals or concluding any dealings, in terms of which they would be paid what they are publicly demanding. I further place on record that I have not, whether personally or through any of my companies, been a party to a contract with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, Department of Immigration or the Zimbabwe Republic Police as insinuated in the manufactured voice messages. These Government entities are available to confirm this position.
5. The fake voice messages, coupled with previously circulated fraudulent documents on the same subject, are cluttered with political innuendos and undertones. The shadowy intention of these despicable claims is to discredit and soil the image of His Excellency, President E.D. Mnangagwa, the First Family and the legitimacy of the Second Republic after its resounding victory in the August 2023 harmonized elections. The machinations are also well calculated to put into question and cast aspersions on the procurement processes which relate to the conducting of the last elections in Zimbabwe. I wish to publicly state that I have not been involved, neither do I hold any influence over procurement processes by ZEC or any other Government Ministries, Departments or Agencies. 
6. Whilst the content of the alleged voice messages is undoubtedly false and deliberately fabricated, I understand the adverse impression that it has created on certain sensitive offices in both Government and the private sector. In particular, one of the offensive remarks made in these fake voice messages is that certain payment was to be made to a “DG” and another to “moms”. These terms have regrettably been ascribed to certain offices within structures of Government, and have been understood by the public to refer to a Director General. The remarks bear an undesirable effect of giving an impression that these authorities are involved in corruption or participate in illicit transactions. It is public knowledge that the only extent of my donations of 20 thousand USD were towards the ED UNZA Scholarship in 2023 and the Angel of Hope Foundation as both organizations dovetail with my philanthropic work. For the avoidance of doubt, I have never paid the Head of State, the First Lady or any other Government official anything outside of the two donations that I have referred to above. Related to this, I do not hold or exert any influence or control over the President, the First Lady, the First Family, Government officials or any public entity. I am an ordinary card-carrying member of ZANU PF, which I proudly support.
7. I hereby express my deep regret and profound apology to the esteemed office of H. E. President E. D. Mnangagwa, the First Lady, the First Family and any office or public official that these fake voice messages may have adversely affected or drawn into disrepute. I have taken a further step to personally extend my remorse and apologies to all Director Generals in Government, upon whom the malicious voice messages may unjustly be construed as applying. For the record, I hold all the Director Generals in various Government Departments in the highest regard. I have known them as men and women of unquestionable integrity and do not deserve having their good standing and repute being unnecessarily dragged in such mischievous yet damaging controversies. I once again extend my deepest regret over this unfortunate development, the extent of which bears the potential of diminishing public confidence in the affected Government institutions. I undertake to fully assist to the greatest possible extent, in demonstrating how the fake voice messages are devoid of any truth. I repeat that at no given time did I ever pay the Director General CIO Isaac Moyo or the Chief Secretary in the President and Cabinet Martin Rushwaya any money whatsoever for any service. 
8. I wish to restate that I am a law-abiding citizen and businessman of international repute who upholds the highest level of integrity in all my business transactions. I do not condone any corrupt practices and I thoroughly condemn any illicit, criminal or unethical conduct in both the public and private sectors. I give my personal undertaking to cause a comprehensive investigation of this matter through the appropriate State authorities, whose findings will be made available in the public interest.

Chivayo Disowns "Leaked Audio", Claims The Voice Note Was Created Using Advanced Technology

Self-exiled former Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) commissioner-general Augustine Chihuri’s R130-million (US$7 million) mansion in Harare has been acquired by Wicknell Chivayo, an ex-convict with access to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Chihuri, who was the only service chief aligned with Robert Mugabe, the late former President during the 2017 coup, was arrested and later fled to Malawi.
According to <a href="https://www.news24.com/news24/africa/news/ex-con-tenderpreneur-now-owns-exiled-zimbabwean-police-chiefs-r130m-house-20240516">News24</a>, in 2020, Chihuri’s was attached by Zimbabwe’s National Prosecuting Authority as part of the “unexplainable wealth” the police chief had amassed over the years.
Chihuri, however, disputed the allegations in court, saying he had a long-standing personal feud with Mnangagwa over a woman, and that his matter was more of a “politically targeted persecution” because he refused to play a part in the coup.
In 2022, he won a bid to reclaim the palatial home in the Gletwyn suburb of Harare, among other properties, when the state failed to prove that he had siphoned some R600 million from the state.
The house, which is now in Chivayo’s hands, was recently furnished by a South African high-end firm, Norman Bakos.
Those close to Chivayo estimate that the work done by the firm could run well over R2 million
Chivayo’s lawyers, Messrs Manase and Manase instructed advocate Lewis Uriri to tell News24 that he was a beneficiary of the house bought by a trust. Said Uriri:

Mr Chivayo is a beneficiary of the owner of the property, having purchased the same. The owner, whose title is being processed, is a trust that, for now, cannot be named.

Since last year, Chivayo has been dishing out cars, which range from luxury Mercedes Benz, Toyota Hilux and smaller cars, such as the Toyota Aqua, to those who supported ZANU PF ahead of the disputed August 2023 general elections.
His wealth is unexplainable, and he has even been investigated by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).
In April this year, at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, Chivayo was spotted with Mnangagwa when he hosted Kenya’s President William Ruto.
According to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/wicknell-chivayo-criminal-mastermind/">Chronicle</a>, in 2004, Chivayo was handed a three-year jail term with labour after being convicted of theft by false pretences involving R837,000.
The report further says Chivayo “unlawfully and with intent to steal” misrepresented to Digby Sean Nesbitt that he had deposited R837,000 into Shane Peter Nesbitt’s bank account in South Africa in exchange for Z$37,6 million. After receiving the Z$37,6 million, he neglected to deposit the Zimbabwe dollar equivalent.
Chivayo served his sentence at Chikurubi Maximum Prison.

Chivayo Acquires Augustine Chihuri's US$7 Million Gletwyn Home

Zimbabwean socialite Wicknell Chivayo says he has set aside US$850 000 to acquire 100 Toyota Aqua vehicles which he said he will distribute to ZANU PF youths across the country’s 10 provinces.
Chivayo said the cars will be distributed randomly to ZANU PF youths who campaigned hard for ZANU PF to secure victory in the 2023 harmonised elections.
The ZANU PF apologist, who has been dishing out cars to selected musicians and actors, said he will not stop, and wished that at least 10 local businesspeople emulated his “generosity”.
Commenting on a video clip by comedian King Kandoro (real name Mukudzei Kandoro Majoni), who appeared to mock him and ZANU PF for the extravagance, Chivayo said the ruling party deserves respect. He said:

As much as I sometimes find this boy funny, I certainly dislike his unjustified criticism of my beloved party ZANU PF, all in the name of humour and satire.
The revolutionary party ushered us the independence which we celebrate and enjoy to this very day and therefore equally deserves some measure of respect.
The sad news for him is I’m not stopping sorry to say! There are so many rich people out there who barely share their wealth with anyone.
Imagine if we had just 10 generous business tycoons like me in Zimbabwe, we would live in a better place.
Exceptional and committed philanthropists like myself should never be the subject of such petty humour for comic mileage!
It takes a lot of love and faith to be able to bless a whole lot of people that you don’t know, you’ve never even met and are not related to.
The wiser thing to do is shower more praises and keep encouraging them to soldier on to try to enable more people to benefit.

Chivayo then announced his plans to acquire a fleet of Toyota Aquas that he will distribute to ZANU PF youths. He said:

I will first of all seek the requisite permission from the party leadership, then liaise with the Minister of each Province and Provincial chairmen to ensure that appropriate and deserving beneficiaries receive their recognition.
If I had enough money I would buy every ZANU PF member and Johanne Masowe follower a car but I’m only a big-hearted businessman who has so much love but is still struggling to make ends meet.
I appreciate the mostly good feedback and gratefulness, but to those few who still hate being patient, I have more in store for you.

Chivayo had another dig at King Kandoro, likening him to what he referred to as failed opposition political outfits.
He also dismissed suggestions that he aspires to a top position in ZANU PF. Chivayo has lately been described in some quarters as the “Vice President At Large” after he appeared alongside President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State events. Said Chivayo:

I have consistently been the subject of political caricature by some cartoonists out of desperation for online relevance.

I will forever remain a card-carrying member of the Revolutionary Party and will always wholeheartedly vote for ZANU PF in every election as this is my constitutional right to do so!
In the meantime, I will never slow down on my opulent lifestyle so please allow me to be serenaded by the endless luxury of flying first class on a brief vacation to London.

Chivayo Plans To Distribute 100 Toyota Aquas To ZANU PF Youths, Rubbishes "Vice President At Large" Claims

Vice-Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi and other ZANU PF and government officials are reported to be unhappy with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent public appearances with Wicknell Chivayo.
Chivayo, a controversial socialite infamous for the stalled multi-million Gwanda Solar Project, which his company, Intratrek has failed to deliver, has been seen accompanying Mnangagwa at various events in the past few weeks.
Mnangagwa’s public appearances with Chivayo, including reportedly sharing a private jet, have reportedly raised eyebrows within government and party leadership.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200026265/chivayo-divides-zanu-pf">NewsDay</a> reported a source as saying Mnangagwa has not told senior party leaders and government officials about the nature of his relationship with Chivayo. Said the source:

The vice presidents are wondering what is really happening. Actually, they are shocked. The worst thing is that President Mnangagwa is not even telling anyone what he is up to.
It is just between him and that boy [Chivayo]. Do not be surprised to hear that he is now a minister. Some favours are being extended to Chivayo.
Let’s just wait and see, but as I said, soon Chivayo is going to be given a top position within the party.

However, ZANU PF director of information Farai Marapira, defended Mnangagwa’s association with Chivayo, saying the latter had been supporting Mnangagwa’s vision and policies that made him successful. Said Marapira:

President Mnangagwa has made billionaires out of Zimbabweans through his policies. You look at Chivayo as one of the typical examples. He has been a success because of the policies of President Mnangagwa.
Chivayo is also supporting President Mnangagwa’s vision and he is ploughing back to society.

The President is open to everyone and he is open to anyone in the county. His doors are open to every Zimbabwean.

Political analyst Rejoice Ngwenya said Chivayo has used money to be part of the party’s top leadership but his rise will not please those who have been ZANU PF members since the days of the liberation struggle who may feel sidelined. Said Ngwenya:

During the Easter holiday, Chivayo allegedly breached ZANU PF and government protocol by receiving Mnangagwa at the Zion Christian Church Mbungo shrine ahead of Mohadi.
Chivayo later donated US$1 million to the church to finance its projects.
In recent months, Chivayo has been giving cars and cash to social media influencers and popular musicians, most of whom are linked to ZANU PF.

Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo said that his acts of generosity fulfil prophecy. He believes his giving will lead him to become Zimbabwe’s first billionaire under 45.
The ZANU PF apologist has generously gifted luxurious cars to renowned musicians, leaders, and congregants of the Johanne Masowe apostolic sect over the past several months.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200025853/ill-be-the-first-zim-billionaire-under-45-chivayo">NewsDay</a>, Chivayo (41), who was raised in Chivhu’s remote Gandami village, said his good deeds were a prophecy that was coming to pass. He said:

I Will Be The First Zimbabwean Billionaire Under 45 - Chivayo

Gospel artist Darlington Mutseta, popularly known as Mambo Dhuterere, vehemently denies requesting a car from ZANU PF supporter Wicknell Chivayo. Recently, Chivayo has been generously gifting lavish cars to musicians without restraint.
On Monday, March 25, Chivayo presented musician Nicholas “Madzibaba” Zakaria with a brand-new Toyota Fortuner.
In response, Mambo Dhuterere praised Zakaria for maintaining composure even after Chivayo publicly criticized him. Chivayo had accused Zakaria of interfering in his spending decisions by requesting a car. Mambo Dhuterere posted on Facebook:

Nevertheless, certain social media users perceived Mambo Dhuterere’s Monday post as an indirect plea for a car from Chivayo.
In a Facebook post this Tuesday evening, Mambo Dhuterere asserted that it would be inappropriate for him to seek a car from Chivayo. He cited the kindness he has received from President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his family.
Within the same post, Mambo Dhuterere disclosed that he battled illness for several months.
Additionally, he had substantial interactions with the First Lady and her twin sons, Sean and Collins.
Furthermore, Mambo Dhuterere said he received generous compensation for creating ZANU PF jingles leading up to the August 2023 harmonized elections. He wrote:

Mambo Dhuterere Speaks On His Car "Request" From Chivayo And His Work On ZANU PF Jingles

Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Sonja Madzikanda, are reportedly divorcing after seven years of marriage.
In an Instagram post, Madzikanda said she and Chivayo have been separated for some time, adding they wanted to make their divorce public in May. She said:

He’s a single guy. He has been a single guy for a while. Myself and Wicknell are no longer together and we have not been together for a while.

Sonja Madzikanda Announces Separation From Chivayo

Wickell Chivayo strongly criticized journalist Hopewell Chin’ono in response to his remarks following musician Thomas Mapfumo’s refusal of a contentious businessperson’s car and home gifts.
In an interview with Nehanda Radio last Monday, Mapfumo emphatically refuted allegations that he had accepted an alluring offer from Chivayo, asserting, “I’m not the kind of person to be swayed by bribes.”
Mapfumo expressed surprise at receiving a phone call from Chivayo just before retiring for the night the previous.
Chin’ono observed that Mapfumo’s refusal of Chivayo’s gifts demonstrated his unwavering principles.
Chin’ono’s comments, however, did not go down well with Chivayo, who described him as a “half-witted and failed pseudo-journalist”. Chivayo posted on social media:

Chivayo said Mapfumo is living in poverty in the United States of America and that he desires the Chimurenga maestro to return home and enjoy his retirement. He said:

He also mocked Chin’ono over his arrest in June 2020 on allegations of incitement to public violence. Said Chivayo:

Chivayo also made fun of Job Sikhala, who was also arrested for inciting public violence in June 2022 following the murder of Moreblessing Ali in Nyatsime. He said:

Chivayo pleaded with Mapfumo to accept his gifts, saying the offer would be “life changing for him”, warning him against being “deceived” by “hopeless online sycophants”. He said:

He, however, criticised Mukanya for saying the likes of Jah Prayzah and Alick Macheso accepted car gifts because they were poor. Said Chivayo:

Chivayo Mocks Chin'ono And Sikhala Over Imprisonment; Begs Thomas Mapfumo To Accept His Gifts

The Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) and Wicknell Chivayo’s Intratek Zimbabwe are poised to restart the 100MW Gwanda Solar Project.
The project faced setbacks due to alleged non-performance by Chivayo’s company, but recent developments have put it back on track.
ZPC’s acting managing director, Norbet Matarutse, informed the parliamentary portfolio committee on mines and energy that discussions are underway to revive the stalled Gwanda Solar Project. He said (<a href="https://www.zimlive.com/zpc-intratek-revive-abandoned-gwanda-solar-project/">via ZimLive</a>):

In 2015, Intratek Zimbabwe won a tender worth US$200 million. ZPC paid Intratek Zimbabwe US$5 million for initial tasks like site clearance and feasibility studies.
Due to delays, ZPC cancelled the contract and reported Intratek Zimbabwe and Chivayo to the police for fraud.
Later, the courts acquitted Chivayo and Intratek Zimbabwe of fraud, affirming the contract’s validity. Additionally, the court ordered ZPC to fulfil its contractual duties.
Tungamirai Chinhengo, a lawyer for ZPC told the same committee that the US$5 million paid to Intratek was for the commencement works. He added:

The parties are currently engaging each other intending to resume works at the Gwanda Solar Project.
However, I want to clarify a position which has been misinterpreted about the US$22 million damages.
The issue of damages has never been ordered by any court in respect of this. The High Court and Supreme Court never ordered anything in respect of damages to Intratek.

Chinhengo mentioned that ZPC and Intratek are currently discussing a review of the contract price. He said given the substantial reduction in global solar pricing due to technological advancements, the parties are exploring adjustments to the contract terms, considering the time that has passed since 2015.

Chivayo, ZPC Revive Abandoned Gwanda Solar Project

Self-exiled Chimurenga music legend, Thomas Mapfumo, has firmly denied allegations that he accepted an enticing offer from businessman Wicknell Chivayo.
The offer reportedly included a US$200,000 luxury car and a US$300,000 home. Mapfumo, known for his principled stance, refuted the claims, asserting that he is not susceptible to bribery.
Speaking exclusively to <a href="https://nehandaradio.com/2024/03/18/thomas-mapfumo-responds-to-wicknell-chivayos-offer-im-not-that-type/">Nehanda Radio</a> on Monday, March 18, Mapfumo said he was surprised to receive a phone call from Chivayo before he went to bed on Sunday evening. He said:

Yes I know he likes my music. He called me before I went to bed and told me he was in New York on a visit. I asked him how his family was and that was that.
</blockquote>
It would appear Chivayo took a screenshot of his phone call to Mapfumo and that is being used by many bloggers to claim Mapfumo called Chivayo when that was not the case.
Posting on his social media pages, Chivayo encouraged Mapfumo to publicly renounce past criticism of ZANU PF, as he dangled the prospect of a luxury vehicle and house should he do so.
This offer came after Mapfumo last week criticised musicians that were begging for vehicles from Chivayo.
Speaking in an interview with Nehanda TV, Mapfumo said:

Ma musicians aya varombo. Vapfanha ava musavaseka kuti varikutambira motikari because haasati amboona motikari yakadaro.

Mapfumo also lambasted Chivayo and the ZANU PF-led government for donating expensive cars to musicians while doing nothing to equip public hospitals. He said:

We’re in this situation because of poverty. They are accepting all these beautiful cars because they can’t afford them.
I saw Jah Prayzah thanking him (Wicknell Chivayo) after receiving a car that he had never seen.
You’re giving cars to musicians, yet they already have their own cars, which they bought through their own means.
Why can’t you just channel that money to hospitals? Our roads are in a bad state, and people are living in poverty.
Our fight is not for certain individuals to get a good living but for everyone to come out of poverty.

In response, Chivayo said Mapfumo had fallen on hard times, a situation that could be corrected if he apologised to the ruling party. He wrote on social media:

Thomas Mapfumo Denies Accepting Luxury Car And Home Offer From Wicknell Chivayo

Zimdancehall musician, Sniper Storm (real name Donald Chirisa), has begged controversial businessman and ZANU PF apologist Wicknell Chivayo for a car.
Sniper Storm’s plea, which he posted on Facebook this Friday, comes after Chivayo has donated cars to several musicians most of whom are loyal to ZANU PF. He wrote:

Those who have received cars from Chivayo include Seh Calaz (Tawanda Mumanyi), DJ Fantan (Arnold Kamudyariwa), Jah Prayzah (Mukudzei Mukombe), Sandra Ndebele, Suluman Chimbetu, and Alick Macheso.
Meanwhile, Chivayo was recently embroiled in a public controversy with Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria, the legendary Sungura musician.
A video surfaced online showing Zakaria conversing with another individual at a mechanic shop while his car underwent repairs.
The individual, seemingly a fan, inquired about Zakaria’s car. Zakaria explained that he had been using the same car for years, which had become old and prone to breakdowns.
Despite the fan’s suggestion that a music legend like Zakaria deserved a better car for shows or church, there was no mention of Wicknell Chivayo in the conversation, nor any request for a car from him.
However, Chivayo took offence to the video, interpreting it as a demand for a car from him. He publicly criticised Zakaria, accusing him of seeking a car gift.
In response to Chivayo’s outburst, Zakaria clarified that the video was merely an advertisement for the mechanic’s business and expressed no intention to tell Chivayo how to spend his money.

Sniper Storm Begs Wicknell Chivayo For A Car

The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) has condemned the harassment, cyber attacks, and intimidation of journalists by State and non-state actors, saying “such criminal acts meant to cow and gag journalists”.
This comes after controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo threatened Sources Media journalist Rutendo Maraire after she asked him if the vehicles he had been dishing out to ZANU PF-linked musicians and members of the Johanne Masowe cult had been properly cleared.
In another disturbing development, an online news publication, The NewsHawks, had to put on ice follow-up stories on the issue of three Zimbabwean army generals forced out due to corruption issues following subtle threats and direct pressure from state security agents.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 20 February, ZUJ urged Chivayo and the security services to approach the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) and the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ) for redress rather than resorting to threats and intimidation. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists is perturbed by recent threats, intimidation and cyber attacks on journalists Rutendo Maraire who works for Sources Media and Owen Gagare, Editor of the NewsHawks for doing their job.
Maraire was attacked online by Wicknell Chivhayo, while Gagare and the NewsHawks are allegedly being threatened by the military for running a story wherein some military commanders are involved in corrupt activities.
ZUJ unequivocally expresses complete displeasure at such criminal acts meant to cow and gag journalists and the media from freely executing their role of informing the nation and holding authority to account.
We find Mr Chivhayo’s threats and attacks on the young journalist and those from the military on Newshawks Editor appalling, uncalled for and unacceptable.
ZUJ reminds Mr Chivhayo that the country’s laws allow journalists to report on any issue accurately and with balance and when reached for comment, it’s because journalists are alive to the ethics that direct their conduct.
Instead of hurling insults and threats at the journalist whose crime was to ascertain facts, the proper thing was to give the journalist accurate information.
We also would like to remind both Mr Chivhayo and the security services of various mechanisms available for redress if aggrieved by any report as opposed to threats and attacks including the ZMC and VMCZ.
ZUJ is convicted that acts of intimidation and threats of violence on journalists are in direct contradiction with the pronouncements and posture by the President of the Republic Emmerson Mnangagwa and the stance seemingly taken by the 2nd republic on media reform and ensuring the enjoyment of media freedoms and access to information as guaranteed by the constitution of the country.
The sad developments are a direct attack and an existential threat on the profession, a prepense disregard of the constitution and our law.
We reiterate that JOURNALISM IS NOT A CRIME and demand a stop to such repugnant actions.
ZUJ has since reached out to the police to ascertain the reasons behind delays in investigating Maraire’s case and has been promised of a definitive position in a matter of days.
We shall keep on engaging the police and pursuing the matter.

Chivayo said he gave away the vehicles to the three singers for their continued support and entertainment at First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’s Angel of Hope Foundation and other charity events. He said:

Speaking during a Capitalk FM Champions League Breakfast Show hosted by Phathisani Sibanda and Tinashe Chikuse recently, Chivayo said from a young age, his father always told him that he would be rich. He said:

Wicknell Chivayo Reveals His "Source Of Funds"

Zimbabwean socialite Wicknell Chivayo says he blocked people on social media platforms who were telling him to channel his money to public hospitals instead of buying top-of-the-range cars for ZANU PF sympathisers.
Chivayo has splurged millions of dollars over the past few months, buying high-end vehicles which he donated to ZANU PF-linked musicians and his churchmates at the Johanne Masowe Apostolic Sect.
Some musicians who received top-of-the-range cars are Jah Prayzah, Sandra Ndebele, Sulumani Chimbetu and Seh Calaz, as well as Zim Dancehall producer DJ Fantan.
Chivayo has been criticised on social media platforms for his “philanthropy”, with some people asking him to buy medication and equipment for hospitals instead.
But speaking in a recent radio interview, Chivayo said he blocked everyone who told him how to spend his money. He said:

I blocked everyone who sent me that message because I do not want to be told how to use my money, if anyone feels that is more important, let them use their money.
Yes, hospitals need equipment but all of this is in the government’s pipeline. Recently the health minister commissioned an MRI at Mpilo Hospital, this is already the government’s plan to upgrade all government hospitals and there is no need for me to do that.
I do not want to look like I am seeking political office or trying to fight the government.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) is investigating Chivayo’s source of funds.
Over the years, Chivayo has donated large sums of cash to charities and individuals.
In 2012, Chivayo reportedly donated R2 million towards African Heritage Charity and also donated a VW Beetle and paid 3 years’ worth of tuition for Maneta Mazanhi after she competed in Big Brother Africa.
In December 2015 it was announced by then ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa that Chivayo had agreed to sponsor the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) US$1 million.
The funds were to be paid “progressively during the ZIFA president’s tenure” with some of the immediate payments going to cover the outstanding salary of former Warriors head coach Tom Saintfiet who was owed over $100 000.
Chivayo subsequently promised to secure the National Team coach, Callisto Pasuwa a vehicle, which he bought in January 2016.
He also promised to ensure that with the sponsorship money, Pasuwa’s salary would be covered adequately.

ZESA Holdings has dismissed as false, a post on social media site, X, which alleges that the Supreme Court ordered the power utility to pay Wicknell Chivayo US$33 million after the company’s “CEO” allegedly failed to appear in court.
Chivayo is a controversial socialite who has been buying expensive cars for artists linked to ZANU PF over the past few weeks.
In a statement, ZESA Holdings said it has no case that is pending before the Supreme Court involving Chivayo. It said:

ZESA Holdings has taken note of a post circulating on social media, falsely claiming that the Supreme Court has ordered the payment of US$33 Million to Mr. Wicknell Chivayo.
The post further alleges that the order was granted against ZESA after its “CEO” allegedly failed to appear in court.
We would like to advise our valued stakeholders that the contents of the aforesaid post are grossly misleading, false and maliciously calculated to misinform the general public.
For the avoidance of doubt, ZESA has no case that is pending before the Supreme Court involving the individual referred to in the post circulating on social media.
ZESA reassures its customers, stakeholders and the general public of its commitment to principles of good governance, chief among which are integrity and accountability.

ZESA Dismisses US$33 Million Payment To Chivayo Report

Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has gifted musician Jah Prayzah with a brand-new US$180 000, S500 Mercedes Benz.
Chivayo, who has been dishing out cars and cash to artists in recent months, said his gift to Jah Prayzah was to show his appreciation for his music. Chivayo posted on X (formerly Twitter):

Chivayo said Jah Prayzah’s music was consistent with ZANU PF’s victory in general elections over the years. He said:

In September 2023, Chivayo bought a US$65 000 Toyota Hilux GD6 for DJ Masomera. He said it was his small way of saying thank you for his support to ZANU PF.
Masomere is a teacher at Ndarama High School in Masvingo who rose to prominence due to his active role as a Master of Ceremony at various ZANU PF rallies in the run-up to the 2023 general elections.
In October 2023, Chivayo gifted the ZIYA Cultural Arts Trust trio cast – Vharazipi, Chairman and Mbuya Mai John – US$10 000 cash each.
He also donated a Toyota GD6 and house to Chief Hwenje for his song “Mai Welly”.

Chivayo Gifts Jah Prayzah US$180K Mercedes Benz

Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo on Thursday, 05 October gifted ZIYA Cultural Arts Trust trio cast, <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Sabhuku_Vharazipi">Sabhuku Vharazipi</a>, Chairman and Mbuya Mai John, US$10 000 cash each.
This was after the comedians produced a video in which they praised him and President Emmerson Mnangagwa for gifting artistes such as Chief Hwenje and DJ Masomere with luxurious vehicles.
Previously, Chivayo (DJ) David Masomere, a teacher at Ndarama High School in Masvingo, received a brand new Toyota GD6 and a house from Chivayo.
He also donated a Toyota GD6 and house to another ZANU PF praise singer Chief Hwenje for his song “Mai Welly”.
The previous week, Chivayo shared a post on his social media pages promising to give out cash to Sabhuku Vharazipi (whose real name is David Mubaiwa), Mai John (Kumbirai Chikonye), and Chairman (Wellington Chidara).
And, exactly a week after Chivayo made the announcement, Vharazipi and crew were each given US$10 000.
He also gave each of the artistes US$2000 for refuelling.
Speaking after receiving the money, Vharazipi joked that he also needed a car. He said:

 Chivayo’s source of wealth is not known but he has been reported to have close ties with top politicians in Zimbabwe including former President <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe" title="Robert Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a>‘s family.

Chivayo Honours Promise To Sabhuku Vharazipi And Colleagues

Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo (Sir Wicknell) has pledged to give US$10 000 to each of the Ziya Cultural Arts Trust trio led by comedian <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Sabhuku_Vharazipi">Sabhuku Vharazipi</a>.
This comes after the comedians produced a video in which they praised President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Chivayo for gifting artistes such as Chief Hwenje and DJ Masomere with luxurious vehicles.
Posting on his Facebook page, Chivayo said Sabhuku Vharazipi (whose real name is David Mubaiwa), Mai John (Kumbirai Chikonye), and Chairman (Wellington Chidara) will get US$10 000 each for the skit. He wrote:

Other artists who have received gifts from ZANU PF itself or its benefactors are Holy Ten, Ricky Fire, Chief Hwenje, and DJ Masomere.

"Sir Wicknell" Offers Sabhuku Vharazipi US$10 000 For "Bootlicking" ZANU PF

The Supreme Court has reserved judgment in a case where the <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Zimbabwe Power Company</a> (ZPC) appealed against a <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">High Court ruling</a> that found <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Wicknell Chivayo</a> not guilty of breaching <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">contractual agreements</a> of the Gwanda Solar Project.
In 2013 Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) — a subsidiary of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Electricity_Supply_Authority_Holdings" title="Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority Holdings">ZESA Holdings</a>, floated a tender for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of a 1000MW Gwanda Solar Power Station Project. Chivayo’s Intratek Zimbabwe reportedly bid but lost. However, the terms of the tender were changed to allow Intratek (together with Chinese company ZTE) to be accepted and supply the solar stations.

It was alleged that the initial partners, Greenfield Solar of Germany, did not have the financing for such a project, after having been awarded the tender. They would later enter into a partnership with a Chinese company, China Electric Company, to build a now even bigger power station, said to be at the tune of US$750 million in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gwanda" title="Gwanda">Gwanda</a>.
In 2014, Intratrek Zimbabwe partnered with Green Solar Europa to build a $350 million solar power station. However, China Jiangxi Corporation won the contract with a bid of $184 million.
ZPC demanded that Intratrek partner with Jiangxi, who had won the contract. Intratrek and ZTE then lowered their initial bid of $248 million to match Jiangxi’s price.
The State Procurement Board (SPB) later cancelled Jiangxi’s contract, alleging that they had raised their price. Intratrek was eventually awarded the contract for $202 million, although the initial reported price was $171 million, and there is no explanation for the $30 million difference or the multiple changes in the project’s cost.
Intratrek Zimbabwe won the bid for the 1000 MW Gwanda Solar Project in 2015 and received $5.6 million in advance payment for preparatory work. However, legal disputes have prevented the project from being implemented. ZPC cancelled the tender after Wicknell had allegedly failed to meet the set deadlines. He challenged and the High Court judge, Justice Priscilla Munangati-Monongwa, handed down a judgement in January 2023 declaring the <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">EPC</a> contract valid and extant, which means that the contract is legally valid and binding between the parties.
The court also ordered ZPC to pay Intratrek for the work done, which amounted to US$1,191,374, and the outstanding balance of US$693,000. The High Court also gave Chivayo approval to proceed with the project.
ZPC then appealed against the High Court ruling. The case is now before the <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Supreme Court</a> for review.
This is happening when some Zimbabweans are angry with Wicknell Chivayo for importing six luxurious vehicles worth about 3.5 million dollars while the <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Gwanda Solar Project</a> has not yet started. Although Chivayo claims his success is due to his faith in God, some members of the public believe he is using stolen money. Zimbabwe is currently facing a severe power shortage due to old power generation equipment, corruption, and irregular rainfall.
