Controversial Harare-based preacher Walter Magaya is open to potentially running for the presidency of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
Magaya, who owns the Premier Soccer League (PSL) club Yadah and The Heart Stadium in Waterfalls, Harare, claimed that both former and current women’s football administrators have encouraged him to take on the leadership role at ZIFA.
On Sunday, during the inaugural Heart Women Soccer League Tournament final, former ZIFA Women Soccer League board member Cecilia Gambe urged Magaya to consider a run for the presidency.
In response, Magaya, who founded and leads Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries, said he would first consult with his family and church before making any decisions. He said:

A group of football administrators requested that I run for ZIFA presidency. I’ll discuss this with my family and church before deciding.
I’ll analyse the situation, considering what changes can be made and how I can contribute. I’ll make a decision within two weeks.

ZIFA has been without a president since November 2021, when the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the board led by then-president Felton Kamambo, along with members Philemon Machana, Bryton Malandule, Sugar Chagonda, Farai Jere, and Barbra Chikosi.
Currently, ZIFA affairs are being managed by a FIFA-appointed Normalisation Committee, chaired by Lincoln Mutasa.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has announced the final squad for the Under-20 Young Warriors squad ahead of the COSAFA Under-20 Championship, scheduled to take place in Maputo, Mozambique, from September 26 to October 5.
The squad primarily consists of locally based players, with a few foreign-based talents included. Among the foreign players are defender Kurainashe Musanhi from Crystal Palace, midfielder Kennedy Mupomba of Chelmsford City FC, and forward Tanaka Cherera from Bury FC.
Notably, SuperSport United striker Nokutenda Mangezi, who was initially named in the provisional squad, has been dropped from the final lineup.
ZIFA said that SuperSport has requested that Mangezi be excused from the tournament due to a growing list of injuries and important upcoming matches.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has announced that Betterbrands Gold has become the official kit sponsor for the Warriors’ Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualification Campaign.
Betterbrands Gold is a company owned by Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya, who is Mabvuku MP (ZANU PF), and the owner of Scottland Football Club which plays in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One League.

These matches are scheduled for September 6 and September 10, respectively. Interestingly, both games will be played at the Mandela National Stadium in Uganda, with Kenya hosting Zimbabwe on the 6, and Zimbabwe then welcoming Cameroon four days later.

Warriors Secure Lucrative Sponsorship Deal Ahead Of AFCON Qualifiers

A group calling itself “The Candidate”, comprising “progressive football individuals”, is challenging the decision by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee to hold an elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) with the current regional affiliates whose term of office has allegedly expired.
In a letter dated August 21, 2024, addressed to ZIFA Normalisation Committee Chairperson Lincoln Mutasa, The Candidate’s Chairperson Rtd Major Special Matarirano said the regional bodies should be replaced by normalization committees before the AGM is held. He wrote:

The recent call and announcement of the intention for the ZIFA AGM have prompted our assembly to question the sincerity of the NC in changing the fortunes of football in Zimbabwe for the good.
On 10 August 2024, the ZIFA General Secretary, Yvonne Manwa published a letter to several defunct functionaries whose mandate ceased years ago, inviting them to attend a voting AGM in October 2024.
It should be made known to the NC that the current regional bodies, who in the Manwa invitation letters, were to constitute 16 members from the 4 regions in the 60 purported ZIFA members, are out of their mandate and by now were supposed to have been normalised in the same way the Felton Kamambo led ZIFA board was replaced by the NC upon the lifting of sanctions on Zimbabwe football in 2022.
This was supposed to be the issue, and it remains pertinent as a gap to be quickly filled before any AGM can be called for.

In a notice dated August 10, and released by chief executive Yvonne Mapika Manwa, ZIFA set October 18 as the date of the annual meeting in Harare. She wrote:

According to Article 24, the members exercise their voting rights through their official delegates, who will also take part in debates of the AGM.
Each official delegate has a single vote and may not represent more than one member.
Also present will be the ZIFA Normalisation Committee members, secretariat staff, Sports and Recreation Commission representative, Zimbabwe Olympic Committee representative and Auditors representatives.
Each member is humbly requested to submit names and passport-size photos of their delegates to the secretariat on or before the 31st of August 2024.

Meanwhile, according to <a href="https://www.zbcnews.co.zw/sport/date-for-zifa-elections-set/">ZBC</a>, the ZIFA Executive Committee elections are set to be held on the 11th of January 2025 under a new constitution.
The report says ZIFA held an Extraordinary General Meeting on Saturday, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), FIFA, and the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) all represented at the EGM.

A group called "The Candidate" is mad that ZIFA wants to have a meeting with old regional clubs. They think the clubs should be replaced before the meeting. ZIFA announced a meeting on October 18, and they want delegates to come vote. But "The Candidate" says the meeting shouldn't happen until the old clubs are replaced. ZIFA plans to have new elections in January 2025. CAF, FIFA, and SRC were at a recent ZIFA meeting. There's still a debate about what should happen before the AGM takes place.

Football Group "The Candidate" Contests ZIFA's Plan To Hold AGM With Defunct Regional Affiliates

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) and the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that defines the relationship between the two entities and establishes opportunities for collaboration in the management of football in Zimbabwe.
The MoU outlines the respective duties and responsibilities of ZIFA and the SRC, aiming to prevent the recurrence of clashes that previously led to Zimbabwe’s suspension from international football two years ago.
The signing of the MoU was one of the recommendations made by FIFA when Zimbabwe’s suspension from international football was lifted last year.
The signing ceremony, held in Harare, was attended by high-ranking officials, including representatives from FIFA, SRC Chairman Gerald Mlotshwa, and ZIFA Normalisation Committee Chairperson Lincoln Mutasa.

The MoU addresses key areas such as good governance, measures to eliminate sexual harassment in domestic football, and lobbying for funding for national teams.
The agreement recognizes ZIFA’s autonomy and the football association’s responsibility to respect the country’s laws. Said Mlotshwa:

I think the background of all this is well documented; the FIFA suspension of ZIFA, its lifting last year and the conditions that were set at the lifting of that suspension.
The important condition was a stipulation by FIFA itself that the NC and the SRC needed to sign an MOU regarding the management of their relationship going forward.
That was because FIFA itself had greatly appreciated the issues that had been raised by the SRC and the need to find a common platform between SRC and ZIFA essentially as to how they will collaborate going forward, obviously with respect for the ZIFA and FIFA constitutions as well as the laws of Zimbabwe.
There was no great rush to have it drafted and signed, and that was deliberate. I think we needed to allow the NC to do its work to understand the issues that needed to be addressed and to ensure that those issues were captured in the MOU.
I think as we move towards what I would call the home run in so far as the NC’s mandate is concerned, this has become the appropriate time to sign the MOU because it will not just govern the relationship between the NC and the SRC, but with the new incoming administration of ZIFA as well, going forward…
FIFA itself has played a big role in so far as the importance of this MOU is concerned. So, this is also endorsed by FIFA as well.

According to the MoU, the SRC’s Roles and Responsibilities include:

<li>Create an environment that supports and enhances the development of ZIFA and the sport of football in Zimbabwe.</li>
<li>Endeavour to provide financial resources in order to fund some of the main ZIFA activities especially in relation to the activities of the different National Teams representing Zimbabwe in international competitions.</li>
<li>Advise the government of the needs of ZIFA.</li>
</ul>
ZIFA’s roles and Responsibilities include:
<ul>
<li>To proactively formulate policies that provide for safeguarding in football and gender inclusivity.</li>
<li>To implement a robust Media/ Public Relations Management arm to keep stakeholders informed on key issues relating to football matters.</li>
<li>To adhere to the provisions of the approved ZIFA Constitution in use from time to time.</li>

New Era For Zimbabwean Football As ZIFA, SRC Sign MoU

Walter Magaya, the owner of the Heart Group which owns the Heart Stadium in Waterfalls, Harare, has threatened to sue ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairperson Lincoln Mutasa.
This comes after ZIFA condemned the stadium as unfit to host international matches.
In a statement on August 5, the ZIFA Normalisation Committee claimed that during preliminary inspections, the Heart Stadium failed to produce a required Stadium Safety and Security Certificate.
The statement also alleged that the stadium lacks a media tribune, a designated area for vulnerable people, and its ablution facilities do not meet standards.
However, through his lawyer Admire Rubaya, Magaya has refuted these claims, accusing Mutasa of having an “insatiable” desire to destroy his football investments.
In a letter of demand dated August 6, the Heart Group stated that Mutasa or ZIFA had never actually inspected the stadium.
The Heart Group has demanded that Mutasa retract his statement or face a US$1 million lawsuit in damages for allegedly lying about the status of their stadium. Part of the letter reads:

Our client was shocked that you claim to have conducted preliminary inspections of the Heart Stadium regards its suitability to host Ngezi Platinum Stars and Dynamos Football Clubs’ preliminary CAF Competitions Fixtures.
It is very unprofessional for you to communicate falsehoods to the nation in the absence of a physical inspection.

Furthermore, it challenges you to provide the nation with that request as well as the invitation and/or confirmation from the Heart Stadium administration authorising you to visit his state-of-the-art stadium for the preliminary inspections.
If you do not produce the same, it simply means that you have misled our football-loving nation.
One wonders why you would stoop so low for purposes of claiming that you had done preliminary inspections yet none have been conducted.
It is our client’s contention that you have an insatiable appetite to destroy our client’s reputation in circumstances where your role is to administer Zimbabwean football to be world-class.

Magaya Threatens ZIFA With US$1 Million Lawsuit For Condemning The Heart Stadium

The Zimbabwean government has praised the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA for their initiatives to improve safety and security at football stadiums in the country.
This comes after CAF and FIFA recently held a Safe Stadium Initiative Workshop in Harare, aimed at promoting a safer stadium culture across Africa.
As reported by <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/govt-hails-fifa-caf-stadium-safety-initiative/">The Herald</a>, the workshop was led by instructors from CAF and FIFA and was attended by 40 football security officers and personnel, who graduated with certificates at the end of the three-day program.
The graduation ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, the Acting Secretary for Sports, Arts, Recreation, and Culture, Eugenia Chidhakwa, Sport and Recreation Commission director-general Eltah Nengomasha, ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairman Lincoln Mutasa, Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume and a senior representative from the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
In a statement read on her behalf by Chidhakwa, Minister of Sport, Arts, Recreation, and Culture Kirsty Coventry, who was unable to attend due to other commitments, expressed gratitude to CAF for the initiative. She said:

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee has appointed Michael Nees as the new head coach of the Zimbabwe Men’s National Team, the Warriors.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 30 July, ZIFA announced that the 57-year-old German tactician will lead the Warriors in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nees becomes the first substantive Warriors coach since Croatian national Zdravko Logarusic was fired a couple of years ago. ZIFA said:

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League club Herentals College’s owner Innocent Benza has slammed the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee (NC) led by Chairman Lincoln Mutasa for his alleged “lack of interest in and basic knowledge about football”.
Benza, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mutasa Central (ZANU PF), said Mutasa “must do the noble thing and resign for the good of the game”.
He made the remarks after Mutasa, NC member Nyasha Sanyamandwe and ZIFA chief executive officer Yvonne Mapika Manwa appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sports and Recreation on Thursday in Harare.
The trio failed to provide convincing responses to the questions they were asked by the sports committee in line with their line of duty and basic football knowledge.
Mutasa revealed he has yet to attend a local league match one year into office since their appointment by FIFA in July 2023, while Sanyamandwe said she had no prior football experience before her appointment to the NC.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Benza, who is a member of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sports and Recreation, said Mutasa “must resign” to “save” Zimbabwean football. Herentals Owner Innocent Benza Says ZIFA NC Chairman Must Resign To "Save Zimbabwean Football"

Mhondoro Mubaira Member of Parliament Chamu Chiwanza (ZANU PF) says the members of the ZIFA Normalisation Committee (NC) are “clueless individuals who don’t know anything about football” and called for their immediate resignation.
The ZIFA NC comprises Lincoln C. Mutasa (chairperson), Rosemary Mugadza (member), and Nyasha Tashinga Sanyamandwe (member). Yvonne Mapika-Manwa is the chief executive officer.
Mutasa, Sanyamandwe, and Mapika-Manwa appeared before the Parliamentary Sports Portfolio Committee on Thursday and were grilled by legislators about the state of football in the country.
Parliamentary Sports Portfolio Committee members include Farai Jere (Murehwa West) and Innocent Benza (Mutasa Central) both ZANU PF and the owners of Premier Soccer League clubs CAPS United and Herental College, respectively.
Chiwanza, Jere and Benza were among the committee members who took turns to ask Mutasa critical questions.
During the session, Mutasa revealed that he had not attended a single PSL match in the last 12 months, claiming instead that he watched the games on television, while Mapika-Manwa was exposed for not being able to name some of the players on the national football team.
Speaking to journalists after the session, Chiwanza said described the former Dynamos chairman and his administration as individuals who exposed a lack of knowledge and the inability to run the game. ZANU PF MP Demands Resignation Of "Clueless" ZIFA Normalisation Committee

FIFA is not satisfied with the reform process in Zimbabwean football and is now set to assemble a new Normalisation Committee for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), reported <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/fifa-to-name-new-zifa-committee/">The Herald</a>.
The mandate of the current ZIFA Normalisation Committee chaired by Lincoln Mutasa is set to officially expire on June 30.
The Herald reported that the Normalisation Committee is set to be unveiled on July 2 and will be handed a nine-month tenure to complete the task commenced by Mutasa and his team who were appointed on 11 July 2023.
ZIFA chief executive Yvonne Manwa on Friday night told the publication that they were still to receive official communication from FIFA on the future of the Normalisation Committee. She said:

We have not been informed officially of anything with respect to the Normalisation Committee.
There has been no communication as to whether there will be changes or not.
But what is common knowledge is that yes the term of office of the Normalisation Committee is coming to an end on June 30 and we will stand guided by FIFA on the next steps.

FIFA head of development programmes for Africa, Solomon Mudege and director Member Associations Africa, Gelson Fernandes, are reportedly finalising their list for the new leadership for ZIFA. A source was quoted as saying:

FIFA had been hoping that the outgoing Normalisation Committee would have covered a lot of ground in terms of the tasks they were given when they were appointed last year.
But to the disappointment of FIFA, a lot of the work has not been done and ZIFA is not even ready for elections.
The reforms have gone on at a very slow pace and for FIFA they are looking at having another Normalisation Committee, which they hope will do a better job and address the problems that have been at ZIFA.
The names of those who are being earmarked for the Normalisation Committee are still a closely guarded secret that only those in Switzerland know about.
But there is a determination by FIFA to also make some amends by identifying a stronger team that will do far much better than what Lincoln Mutsa and his team have done.

FIFA Set To Appoint A New ZIFA Normalisation Committee

Disagreements between the ZIFA Normalisation Committee and the FIFA head of development programmes for Africa, Solomon Mudege, resulted in the delay in the appointment of the coach of the national senior men’s football team, the Warriors, and hampered the return of Baltemar Brito, reported <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/story-behind-warriors-coaching-chaos">The Sunday Mail</a>.
Mudenge, working with FIFA Forward manager Kudzi Chitima and ZIFA chief executive officer Yvonne Mapika Manwa, had reportedly given Brito the job verbally.
They asked the Brazilian to select his players for the two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and South Africa on 7 and 11 June, respectively.
However, ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairperson Lincoln Mutasa and his executive allegedly refused to process Brito’s papers after he criticised how they handled the previous 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria in Butare, Rwanda, in November 2023.
The Sunday Mail reported sources as saying Mudege, Manwa and Chitima struggled to convince Mutasa and his executive to rehire Brito after he criticised ZIFA following the Warriors’ back-to-back draws against Rwanda and Nigeria. Said the source:

There was a lot of optimism from FIFA’s Mudege and Chitima that the reappointment of Brito would sail through, hence he was tasked with selecting the players with the help of Chitima.
But when the matter was brought to the Normalisation Committee, they stood their ground and rejected Brito’s re-engagement as he had already fallen out with the committee after the Rwanda trip.
It was then that an initial decision to hire Joey Antipas was made, but the Chicken Inn coach does not have a CAF A Licence badge and when the Normalisation Committee put Lloyd Chitembwe’s name forward, it was rejected by the FIFA guys.
Chitembwe also has his challenges of being blacklisted from entering South Africa, so, in the end, a compromise was reached to settle for the three coaches who had been identified as Chitembwe’s assistants, who are Jairos, Chiragwi and Chaminuka.
Another long meeting was held by the Normalisation Committee to decide on the coaches to preside over the upcoming matches and during that meeting, the chairman, Mutasa, insisted that Mhofu (Sunday Chidzambwa) should be in the setup as technical adviser because he rates him highly.

On Friday, Mutasa announced the appointment of Jairos Tapera as Warriors interim coach, with Takesure Chiragwi and Saul Chaminuka, as assistant coaches for the two World Cup qualifiers.
Former Warriors Head Coach, Sunday Chidzambga, was appointed the Warriors’ Technical Director.
Tapera became the fourth interim coach to take charge of the Warriors since the appointment of the ZIFA Normalisation Committee on 11 June 2023. The others are Sunday Chidzambwa, Brito and Norman Mapeza.
The Sunday Mail also heard that the ZIFA NC members are a divided lot but they have one thing in common: “They don’t like those who criticise them.” Said the source:

Brito was dropped as a possible choice for the coaching for reasons aligned with criticism of the establishment as well.
But I can tell you that Brito was the favourite for the job and he was even seconded to pick the squad he wanted to work with. So, he, together with Kudzi Chitima, was responsible for selecting and inviting the players.
This interim technical team to lead the squad will have no say on which players to use since they have already been selected, especially for the World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and South Africa.

"Baltemar Brito Selected Warriors Squad For World Cup Qualifiers In June 2024"

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee says it will announce a new Warriors coach in the next two weeks.
The new coach will have only two weeks to prepare for Zimbabwe’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho in South Africa on June 7.
The Warriors will then take on South Africa in the same qualifiers on June 11.
<a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/zifa-in-ridiculous-warriors-coach-appointment-timeline">The Sunday Mail</a> reported ZIFA chief executive officer Yvonne Mapika-Manwa as saying the process to select the Warriors coach is underway. She said:

The evaluation of the applicants is already underway, with a shortlist of the best-placed applicants set to be drawn up, from which the most suitable candidate for the post will be selected. We expect to complete the entire process in the next two weeks.

According to ZIFA, 139 non-Zimbabwean coaches applied, with only 12 being Zimbabwean.
Former Highlanders coach Baltemar Brito, African Cup of Nations winner Winfred Schaffer and Christopher Gamel of France are some of the foreigners who have applied for the job.
Former Liverpool and Warriors keeper Bruce Grobbelaar, Taurai Mangwiro and Saul Chaminuka are some of the Zimbabwean coaches on the list of applicants.
However, the likes of Sunday Chidzambwa, Joey Antipas, Kalisto Pasuwa, Norman Mapeza, Kaitano Tembo and Rodwell Dhlakama did not apply.
Football analysts have criticised ZIFA for delaying the appointment of the Warriors coach, saying the new coach will not have enough time to evaluate the players to understand the players’ strengths and weaknesses.
Given that foreign-based players have to be invited at least three weeks before a match, the new coach will have to work with players selected by a technical committee that will be headed by ZIFA technical director Jethro Hunidzarira.
The Warriors are in Group C of the 2026 CAF World Cup qualifiers, alongside South Africa, Benin, Rwanda, Nigeria and Lesotho.
Rwanda top the group after two rounds of fixtures with four points, one ahead of South Africa.
Nigeria, Lesotho and Zimbabwe are tied on two points, while Benin are bottom of the table with a single point.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee has reportedly determined that the Warriors will host Lesotho in South Africa during the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Zimbabwe does not have a single stadium certified by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host international matches.
The Warriors hosted Nigeria in Rwanda on match day 2 in November 2023, a few days after playing against Rwanda in the central African country.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has unequivocally disassociated itself from the alleged FIFA induction courses.
ZIFA’s official statement issued on Monday, April 8, clarifies that it is currently not engaged in organizing these courses.
ZIFA warned that impersonating football officials constitutes a criminal offence, and all communication related to FIFA courses will exclusively occur through official ZIFA channels. Reads the statement:

ZIFA Currently Not Offering FIFA Induction Courses

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee has ruled out using the 10,000-capacity Huye Stadium in the city of Butare, Rwanda, for the Warriors’ next 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying home match against Lesotho in South Africa. Their reason is that the stadium is too distant from Zimbabwe.
Due to the Government’s failure to fulfil its promise of rehabilitating the National Sports Stadium to Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards, the Warriors are likely to play their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on foreign soil.
In their last home match, the Zimbabwe senior national team faced Nigeria and Rwanda at Huye Stadium in November 2023, resulting in draws for both matches.
ZIFA Normalisation Committee Chairperson Lincoln Mutasa told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200025211/homeless-warriors-look-to-sa">NewsDay</a> that they are actively exploring venues within the southern African region to host their upcoming home match. Said Mutasa:

CAF required us to suggest a venue by March 27 and by that time no local ground had been approved by the continental football governing body to host matches, so we were left with no option but to play our match away.

Warriors Won't Use Rwandan Stadium For Upcoming World Cup Qualifiers - ZIFA

On Monday, March 25, the Zimbabwe national football team, affectionately known as the Warriors, actively engaged in a tree-planting initiative in Lilongwe, Malawi.
This commendable effort coincides with their participation in a four-nation tournament in the central African country.
According to an official statement from the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), the Warriors were represented by Coach Norman Mapeza, Captain Marshall Munetsi, and FIFA Forward Manager Kudzai Chitima during this significant event. Reads the statement:

The Warriors this morning took time out of their preparations for the final of the Malawi four nations tournament, to take part in some tree planting in Lilongwe under the auspices of the Football Association of Malawi and the FIFA Forward Program.

Meanwhile, the Warriors will face Kenya in the final of the Four-Nations tournament at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi, on Tuesday, March 26.
Zimbabwe reached the finals of the tournament after coming from behind against Zambia in the semi-final played on Saturday, to force the match into a penalty shootout.
The showdown between the traditional rivals, the Warriors and Chipolopolo, at Bingu National Stadium was followed by another semi-final clash between hosts Malawi and Kenya.

Warriors Take Part In Tree Planting Event In Malawi

Members of the ZIFA Normalisation Committee (NC) are reportedly divided on whether to renew Warriors coach Baltemar Brito’s contract or not.
<a href="https://www.soccer24.co.zw/2023/12/30/zifa-nc-undecided-over-brito/">Soccer24</a> reported sources as saying some members of the ZIFA NC had a discussion on Brito’s future at the recently held African Schools Football Championship.
The discussion included FIFA Forward Manager Kudzai Chitima, who has reportedly been heavily involved in key decisions made by the committee. Said the source:

Three members of the Normalisation Committee and Kudzai Chitima had a discussion concerning Brito’s future at the African Schools Football Championship at Gateway High School. Clearly, they were not in agreement in terms of renewing Brito’s contract.
I’m not sure why, but it’s not everyone amongst them who believes Brito should continue as the national team coach.
Some of them (members of the NC) are also against the idea of Antonio Torres (Brito’s assistant and translator at Bosso) being part of the Warriors technical team.

The publication said they could not reach ZIFA NC chairman Lincoln Mutasa on his mobile phone for a comment.
Brito was appointed national team coach in September on a short-term deal that ran concurrently with his arrangement with Highlanders, due to work permit issues.
The Brazilian’s contract expires today, 31 December amid claims that some ZIFA NC members do not want him to continue as the Warriors coach.
Brito presided over two World Cup Qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria in November, picking up two points.

ZIFA Normalisation Committee Undecided Over Brito Warriors Future | Report

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) is yet to finalise the venue of the Warriors’ 2026 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria on 20 November.
ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairperson Lincoln Mutasa told <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/zifa-in-warriors-conundrum">The Sunday Mail</a> that the senior team may host the Super Eagles in Rwanda. Said Mutasa:

We are working on hosting Nigeria in Rwanda and we are going to inform football stakeholders about it once discussions have been finalised.
</blockquote>
The Warriors take on Rwanda in Kigali on 13 November before hosting Nigeria a week later.
Mutasa conceded that ZIFA will incur huge costs in staging the Warriors’ assignments “home away from home”. He said:

Yes, there are financial losses to be incurred but this is a sticky situation that we find ourselves in.
What saddens us the most is that supporters will miss an opportunity to watch their beloved team at home after a long time without international football.
While we would have wanted to get revenue from the match, what is important for us is to give footballers a rare opportunity to play the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
You can never put a cost to that.
Naturally, the football association foots its own bills, if it is within their means, but help from our partners will be accepted.

Last week, the Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Emily Jesaya told senators that ZIFA was yet to notify the Ministry about plans to host the Warriors match in Rwanda.
Meanwhile, ZIFA failed to arrange international friendly matches for the Warriors in the recent international break.
The Warriors ended up playing a practice match against a Northern Region select side, which they lost 3-1.

ZIFA Yet To Secure Venue For Warriors' Home 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

Mighty Warriors players have reportedly received bonuses from ZIFA for participating in the 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship which took place in South Africa from 4 to 15 October 2023.
<a href="https://www.soccer24.co.zw/2023/10/20/mighty-warriors-get-their-bonuses-for-participating-in-cosafa-womens-championship/">Soccer24</a> reported that the Zimbabwean national women’s football team players received over US$2 000 each in daily allowances, winning bonuses and appearance fees.
The players will not receive any money from COSAFA after the regional football body announced this week that the tournament had no sponsors.
Mighty Warriors goalkeeper Cynthia Shonga, who was named the best goalkeeper at the tournament, and other individual award winners, received R20 000 each from COSAFA.
Meanwhile, the Mighty Warriors finished fourth at the tournament despite having spent the past two years without participating in international football tournaments.

Mighty Warriors Players Receive Bonuses From ZIFA For Participating At COSAFA Tournament

Former Ngezi Platinum Stars chief executive officer Nyasha Kadenge is reportedly set to be officially unveiled as the new ZIFA chief executive officer on Monday, 09 October.
Kadenge was fired by Ngezi Platinum Stars in early May 2022 after almost six years at the helm. The club, however, did not disclose why she was relieved of her duties.
After she left Ngezi, Kadenge briefly served as an administrator at the Tanzanian outfit Singida Fountain Gate in Dodoma before returning to Zimbabwe.
<a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/kadenge-lands-zifa-ceo-post">The Sunday Mail</a> reported that Kadenge emerged as a surprise choice for the post at the end of interviews conducted by the ZIFA Normalisation Committee.
The 38-year-old was reportedly initially not on the shortlist drafted by the Normalisation Committee last week.
Surprisingly, she was chosen for the role ahead of Sheasham’s Violet Njubane, Liberty Maidza, Owen Mugwagwa, Yvonne Manwa and Luckson Muradzikwa.
The Sunday Mail reported sources as saying Kadenge was a compromise candidate for the ZIFA CEO post among influential members of the Normalisation Committee. Said the source:

In the second round of interviews, candidates were asked to make presentations on how they intend to turn around ZIFA.
It appears some of the influential members of the Normalisation Committee had their preferences for the CEO post. For instance, Sikumbuzo Ndebele favoured Luckson Muradzikwa, Cynthia Malaba wanted Nyasha Kadenge and there were some who wanted Violet Njubane.
So, in the end, it was agreed that the candidate had to be a woman and a compromise was reached to appoint Nyasha as CEO. Violet will be the women’s football administrator.

Kadenge’s tenure as ZIFA CEO will end on 30 June 2024, when the mandate of the Normalisation Committee is also expected to end.

Nyasha Kadenge Appointed ZIFA Chief Executive Officer | Report

The FIFA-appointed ZIFA Normalisation Committee says it has completed interviews for a new chief executive officer (CEO).
ZIFA has been without a substantive CEO ever since the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended Joseph Mamutse in 2021.
Mamutse was later reinstated but he never resumed his duties after he sided with the Felton Kamambo-led board which was suspended by the SRC in November 2021. His ZIFA contract lapsed on 31 August.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/zifa-set-to-appoint-new-ceo">The Sunday Mail</a>, ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairperson, Lincoln Mutasa, said they expect the new ZIFA CEO to assume duties within the next two weeks. He said:

Yes, we have been conducting interviews this week (last week). We shortlisted some names and then we invited people for the interviews.
After the interviews, we will now look at the results and if it is a tight race, we will go back to the candidates and ask those topping the list to come back and make some presentations, and we hope that next week (this week) we can be able to sit down with the successful candidate and table our offer and negotiate the package.
It is not always that the successful candidate will accept the offer, but we hope he or she will accept what we will table. In the event that there is no agreement, we then go to the next successful one.

Initially, ZIFA had hoped to have the CEO in office by 01 October but the Committee was distracted with arranging matches for the Warriors and Mighty Warriors.
The Warriors travelled to Botswana to play a friendly match against the host nation on 30 September, while the Mighty Warriors are in South Africa for the 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship.
Mutasa declined to reveal names of those who had been shortlisted for the role but The Sunday Mail cited sources as saying the Normalisation Committee has settled for Owen Mugwagwa, Ngezi Platinum Stars’ Yvonne Mapika Manwa, Liberty Maidza and Violet Njubane of Premiership newboys Sheasham.
Njubane is believed to be the front-runner as she reportedly has the backing of FIFA head of development programmes Solomon Mudege.
If she lands the post, she will be the second female ZIFA chief executive officer after Henrietta Rushwaya.

ZIFA Set To Appoint New Chief Executive Officer

The team comprises talented players from various prominent teams in the current Zimbabwe premiership football competition, including Ngezi Platinum, Highlanders, Manica Diamonds, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dynamos_Football_Club/">Dynamos</a>, and others.
Baltemar Brito, who currently serves as the coach for Highlanders FC, has been appointed as the interim Warriors coach until June 30 of next year. Baltemar Brito Has Announced The Warriors Squad To Play Botswana This Month

The ZIFA Normalisation Committee (ZIFA NC) has approached Highlanders Football Club, seeking permission to appoint their coach Brito Baltemar Jose Oliveira as the Warriors’ boss on an interim basis.
A letter dated 19 September 2023 and addressed to the Highlanders Chairman, by ZIFA NC Chairman Lincoln Mutasa confirms the interest in the Brazilian. Reads the letter:

The Normalization Committee would like to request your Executive permission to engage one of your employees in the name of Brito Baltemar Jose Oliveira for a possible appointment as the interim Senior Men National Teams Coach.
Whereas he has indicated he is in permanent employ of your esteemed organization.
It is in that light of integrity we hereby pray you shall find it beneficial to release him for envisaged national duty during this interim Normalization period.

Brito, who arrived in the country last year, has been fairly successful at Highlanders, with the club in second position on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table.
Highlanders were also the only team that remained unbeaten during the first half of this campaign.

ZIFA Committee Wants Highlanders Gaffer As Warriors Coach

The ZIFA Normalisation Committee has called for lengthy bans to be imposed on football fans found guilty of violence at stadiums during matches.
This comes after rowdy Highlanders fans forced the abandonment of the high-profile league match against Dynamos and on Sunday, 10 September.
Bosso fans invaded the pitch during the first half of the match and chased after police officers, protesting what they believed were injustices by the referee.
In a statement released this Thursday, ZIFA also revealed that it was lobbying for an Exclusive Focus Group (EFG) to crack down on offensive songs and tribal or racial chants at football matches. ZIFA said:

The association is grateful to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for apprehending suspected perpetrators of hooliganism at Barbourfields Stadium.
It is our sincere hope that criminals found guilty of disorderly conduct will face the full wrath of the law.
Further, we will push for further enforcement of lengthy stadium bans for anyone found causing trouble at stadiums.
Football is a team sport, and supporters should also play their part to keep the game civilized.
As a commercial sport, football needs order so that sponsors can feel proud to associate their brands with it.
That becomes extremely difficult if barbaric acts of pitch invasion and violence are a part of our game.
As the association, we will continue engaging all concerned stakeholders so that we can come up with foolproof solutions to the eternal challenge of hooliganism.
The association is also concerned by the offensive songs and chants peculiar to our football.
Going forward, the association is lobbying for an Exclusive Focus Group (EFG) to crackdown on offensive songs and tribal or racial chants which include offensive gestures and displaying of offensive messaging that cause feelings of discomfort and discrimination to rival supporters.

ZIFA urged clubs and other football stakeholders to increase education and awareness campaigns to enlighten supporters on the dangers of violence at football matches.

ZIFA Wants Lengthy Stadium Bans For Football Hooligans, Crackdown On Tribal Chants

Former Warriors midfielder, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Alois_Bunjira/">Alois Bunjira</a>, has urged Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat to reconsider their retirement from international football now that the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has new management. 
His remarks came after the Federation of International Football (FIFA) had lifted the suspension on Zimbabwe and appointed a four-member normalisation committee to take over the day-to-day running of ZIFA until June 2024. The committee is composed of chairperson Lincon Mutasa, Sikhumbuzo Ndebele, Rosemary Mugadza, and Nyasha Sanyamandu. Mutasa, a former Dynamos chairman, Mugadza, a former Mighty Warriors coach, Ndebele, a former Highlanders defender, and Sanyamandwe, a member of the British Sports Lawyers Association and a legal practitioner, were selected to serve on the committee. The suspension of ZIFA has been in effect since Monday 10 July 2022.
In a Facebook post seen by Pindula News, Bunjira expressed his belief that the tried and tested duo of Musona and Billiat would play a critical role in Zimbabwe’s quest to qualify for the World Cup. With limited time for preparation, he believes it is necessary to rely on established players to increase the team’s chances of success. He said:

Now that international football is back, we have a normalisation committee to steer football forward, after the dark days of the past years, and Zimbabwe being placed in a fair World Cup group C, I think it is a perfect platform for Captain Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat to come out of their forced retirement and carry the torch with the warriors for one last push, while we sort out our development structures, to groom their future replacements.
We all know why Musona and Billiat retired from the Warriors. All that is sorted now. The culprits are gone. Between now and the World Cup qualifiers, we don’t have time for experiments. I believe we now have a committee that will put in place our junior national teams where younger players are developed and groomed for the Warriors. We also have the CHAN and COSSFA tournaments where experiments and grooming is done. The Warriors is a product and window of what has been developed.

Bunjira believes that Zimbabwe has been drawn into a reasonably fair <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/07/13/zimbabwe-nigeria-sa-in-group-c-of-world-cup-2026-qualifiers/">group for the World Cup</a> which is comprised of Nigeria, South Africa, Benin, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Lesotho. He believes that with the inclusion of all the best players on the team and proper preparation, the country can put up a good fight. Additionally, he emphasised the importance of tapping into the deep reserves of football talent in the diaspora, across the world.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2021/011/15/it-was-all-a-dream-khama-billiat-retires-from-international-football/">Billiat retired from international football</a> after Zimbabwe’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in November 2021. A highly regarded player for the Warriors, he scored important goals, made assists, and displayed crowd-pleasing dribbling skills. It was expected he would retire after the AFCON finals in 2022. While he stated that he was retiring to allow other players a chance to represent Zimbabwe, there were rumours that he quit over the manner the team was being governed.
Knowledge Musona, known as “The Smiling Assassin,” <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2022/05/19/knowledge-musona-retires-from-international-football/">announced his retirement from international football</a> on Thursday, 19 May 2022. The Saudi Arabia-based striker stated that he is quitting the Warriors to concentrate on his club career and to allow other players a chance to represent Zimbabwe.

Bunjira: It's Time For Musona And Billiat To Come Out Of Forced Retirement

The Federation of International Football (FIFA) has appointed a four-member normalisation committee to take over the day-to-day running of ZIFA until June 2024.
The appointment of the normalisation committee came after FIFA announced the lifting of the suspension on the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) on Monday 10 July 2022.
Normalisation committees play a significant role in ensuring compliance with FIFA regulatory requirements.
The four-member normalisation committee was unveiled by FIFA Head of development programs in Africa Solomon Mudege on Tuesday, 11 July.
The committee comprises chairperson Lincon Mutasa, Sikhumbuzo Ndebele, Rosemary Mugadza and Nyasha Sanyamandu.
Mutasa is a former Dynamos chairman, Mugadza is a former Mighty Warriors coach, Ndebele is a former Highlanders defender, while Sanyamandwe is a member of the British Sports Lawyers Association and legal practitioner.
Below are the duties of the normalisation committee:

<li>To run the daily affairs of ZIFA</li>
<li>To restructure the ZIFA administration</li>
<li>To establish, with the help of FIFA, a collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Sport/the SRC and ZIFA, which will define the responsibilities and objectives of each 
party, including (but not exclusively) on the topic of sexual harassment</li>
<li>To review the ZIFA Statutes and Electoral Code to ensure their compliance with the FIFA Statutes and requirements, and to ensure their adoption by the ZIFA Congress</li>
<li>To act as an electoral committee in order to organise and conduct elections of a new ZIFA Board based on the newly aligned ZIFA Statutes and Electoral Code</li>
<li>To ensure a proper financial handover to the new ZIFA Board</li>

FIFA Unveils Four-member ZIFA Normalisation Committee

A delegation from FIFA is set to arrive in Zimbabwe tomorrow (Monday), to finalise the appointment of a normalisation committee to run the affairs of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
A normalisation committee usually consists of members who will be appointed jointly by FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), subject to an eligibility check carried out by the FIFA Review Committee in accordance with the Fifa governance regulations.
The imminent visit by the FIFA delegation is the second in two months and comes a few days before the Bureau of the FIFA Council is scheduled to meet later this week.
The FIFA Council is the main decision-making body of the organisation in the intervals of the FIFA Congress.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/sport/article/200013486/big-week-for-zim-football-as-fifa-visits-again">The Standard</a> reported sources as saying the FIFA Council scheduled for later this week will review Zimbabwe’s suspension from international football competitions. Said a source:

FIFA will be in the country on Monday to finalise the normalisation committee ahead of the FIFA council meeting later in the week to review Zimbabwe’s suspension.
This follows consultations earlier in April with the SRC which included CAF.

In April, FIFA sent a delegation to Zimbabwe on a fact-finding mission.
The delegation consisted of Zimbabwean national Solomon Mudege, who is FIFA’s head of development programmes Africa, regional development officer David Fani and senior governance service manager Sarah Solémalé.
CAF was also represented during the three-day fact-finding mission.
The delegation held meetings with representatives from the Premier Soccer League, the Footballers’ Union of Zimbabwe and other pertinent parties in a bid to gather facts on the ground.
Zimbabwe national teams and clubs have not participated in international competitions for the last 16 months following the country’s suspension by FIFA.
FIFA suspended Zimbabwe after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the ZIFA board led by Felton Kamambo for several alleged violations which include sexual harassment of female referees and failure to account for public funds.

Another FIFA Delegation Set To Visit Zimbabwe

The Gerald Mlotshwa-led Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has expressed satisfaction over recent engagements with officials from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA.
The officials from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA were in the country this week on a fact-finding mission.
In a statement released on Thursday night, SRC said it held “productive meetings” with the officials and they broadly agreed on the next steps to address ZIFA’s current situation. Reads the statement:

Throughout the week, FIFA and CAF engaged with various stakeholders and officials involved in Zimbabwean football to gather their perspectives.
A common sentiment among these stakeholders was the need for strong, lawful governance structures to support Zimbabwe’s return to international football, as well as a commitment to implementing necessary reforms for the sport’s future development and success in the country.
The SRC has also been involved in productive discussions with FIFA and CAF, including COSAFA, with a mutual goal of resolving the issues surrounding the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
The conversations have been marked by good faith from all parties and a genuine interest in advancing solutions.
The outcomes of these discussions have been promising, with the SRC, CAF, and FIFA generally agreeing on the next steps to address ZIFA’s current situation.
… The commission deeply appreciates the firm support and positions taken by all stakeholders involved in this week’s consultations.
These stakeholders have been clear about the changes needed in Zimbabwean football and have collectively called for a swift resolution to ZIFA’s challenges.

The SRC said will provide further updates to the public on the matter in the first week of May 2023.
The SRC did not reveal the issues they agreed on with representatives from both FIFA and CAF.
