State of the Nation Address deferred to next week Tuesday

State of the Nation Address deferred to next week Tuesday

Clerk of Parliament Mr Kennedy Chokuda has said that the State of the Nation Address by President Mugabe scheduled for today has been deferred to next Tuesday because President Robert Mugabe is in Cuba attending Fidel Castro’s funeral. As a result both the National Assembly and Senate will continue with its ordinary sittings.

The yearly event serves as a platform for the President to inform the nation about the country’s current socio-economic and political situation with the opposition parties urging him to use it as a platform to announce his resignation. The Herald reports that Mugabe is also expected to update Parliament on national development, challenges and how Government intends to overcome them.

Last year the President read the wrong speech and the nation hopes that such an incident will not repeat itself.
