Citizens&#8217; Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has blamed President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube for the country&#8217;s economic challenges.
Chamisa said Mnangagwa &#8220;changes like the weather&#8221; and that policy inconsistency has resulted in price hikes, erosion of salaries and the precipitous fall in the value of the Zimbabwe dollar.
Ncube, who was appointed Treasury boss in 2018, has struggled to reverse Zimbabwe&#8217;s economic downturn and recently threatened to hike the policy rate which at one point was at 200 per cent.
Speaking to journalists Chamisa on Tuesday, Chamisa said Mnangagwa and Ncube cannot resolve Zimbabwe&#8217;s economic challenges. <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/everyone-is-hungry-says-chamisa-ccc-leader-blames-mnangagwa-ncubes-haphazard-policies-for-spiralling-prices/">He said:</a>
<blockquote>
Everyone is hungry, everyone is complaining, and everyone feels that the situation in the country is not okay.
This is the problem of having the wrong leader or being led by one who takes power illegitimately as Mnangagwa did.
You will realise none of the things that person will do would have been well thought out.
No one knows how he thinks, he changes like the weather. Nothing works and we want to fix all that by voting for the right candidate.
Look at how Mnangagwa and Ncube are behaving. Their tools box is empty, they cannot resolve the economic questions of the day, and they cannot understand that confidence, predictability and consistency of policy are everything.
The price hikes are an indicator of hikes in all other ill-spheres. We are not part of those that lead in corruption, unemployment, inflation, road accidents, reserves, politically motivated violence, poor road networks, arrest of political players and journalists.

Over the past few weeks, Ncube has announced a series of measures to deal with price hikes including the recent suspension of duty on all basic grocery items for six months.
The grocery items are rice, flour, cooking oil, margarine, salt, sugar, maize meal, powdered milk, milk formula, tea, petroleum jelly, toothpaste, bath soap, laundry and washing powder.

Chamisa Blames Mnangagwa, Mthuli's Policy Inconsistency For Price Hikes

ZANU PF secretary for security Lovemore Matuke this week denied reports that he directed party organs to disband WhatsApp groups which were allegedly being used by some members to cause divisions in the party.
ZANU PF provincial spokespersons recently ordered members to disband the WhatsApp groups with immediate effect while threatening those defying the order with unspecified action.
Provincial leaders insisted that the directive to close them had come &#8220;from above.&#8221;
Speaking to <a href="https://www.theindependent.co.zw/local-news/article/200012026/whatsapp-gag-order-divides-zanu-pf">The Zimbabwe Independent</a> this week, Matuke said he never issued the directives. He said:

Those reports are false. We are not aware of such a directive or even a recommendation from my department.
</blockquote>
The publication reported sources within the party as saying ZANU PF top brass could not monitor the activities of members in other WhatsApp groups.
Nigel Murambiwa, who is the ZANU PF Mashonaland West provincial secretary for information and publicity, is one of the provincial leaders who directed the disbandment of WhatsApp groups last weekend. He said:

We did not just ban WhatsApp groups. There are rowdy groups that were formed prior to our internal primary elections and some of the losing candidates and disgruntled supporters of losing candidates are posting denigrating messages that seek to divide or put the name of the party into disrepute. Those are the ones we ordered our members to take down.

Early this year, ZANU PF accused CCC supporters of hijacking constituency WhatsApp groups to campaign for their leader, Nelson Chamisa.
Meanwhile, President Emmerson Mnangagwa&#8217;s campaign teams have created WhatsApp groups and have been inviting voters to join the groups after clandestinely obtaining their mobile phone numbers.

Top ZANU PF Official Denies Banning WhatsApp Groups

The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) Youth League has threatened to close all the country&#8217;s borders and airports before the August elections to end the smuggling of precious metals including gold.
MRP accused individuals linked to ZANU PF of gold smuggling saying the Government was doing nothing to stop the vice.
Speaking at an MRP star rally held in Lobengula Hall in Bulawayo on Thursday, Mudenda Chilumbo, Chairperson of the MRP Youth League said Zimbabweans should restore the spirit of the liberation struggle to stop resource plundering by the ruling elite. <a href="https://cite.org.zw/mrp-youths-threaten-to-close-borders-and-airports-to-curb-gold-smuggling/">CITE</a> quoted Chilumbo as saying:
<blockquote>
We have the borders at Plumtree, Beitbridge and Kazungula plus airports that are the Joshua Mqabuko International Airport in Bulawayo and the Victoria Falls International Airport, we will take them to a halt.
No plane will fly from Joshua Mqabuko or Victoria Falls International airports. No haulage trucks will also move out of the border. This is the only way to stop this nonsense.
We have doctors, nurses and teachers who are suffering yet there are gold smugglers.
It is our duty to stop that nonsense. Let us restore the spirit of the liberation struggle.

In March and April this year, Al Jazeera premiered &#8220;Gold Mafia&#8221; which exposed individuals, some with links to the Government and State institutions, allegedly involved in gold smuggling and money laundering.
“Gold Mafia” is a four-part investigation by Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit (I-Unit) which exposed gold smuggling gangs in Southern Africa.
The gangs help criminals launder hundreds of millions of dollars, getting rich themselves while plundering their nations.
They use gold to turn dirty cash into clean, seemingly legitimate money for those with large amounts of unaccounted wealth.
The gangs do so by using a complex web of companies, counterfeit identities and fake documents.

MRP Threatens To Seize Airports, Borders To Stop Gold Smuggling

War veteran, diplomat, and former Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe CEO Ambassador Thomas Mandigora has died from a stroke suffered last month.
His youngest daughter Rufaro said the gap left by her father is irreplaceable adding that he was her pillar of strength. She said:

I am failing to express my father’s attitude towards myself and the whole family. He provided everything for the family. He was a jovial man who understands and committed to his family.
</blockquote>
He served as Ambassador to Botswana for 12 years, working to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Zimbabwe and Botswana. He also worked for ZANU during the war and joined the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation after the war, serving in various capacities before becoming CEO of BAZ.
He held a Masters in Business Administration degree and a post-graduate diploma in Business Administration. 
Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Kindness Paradza, described Ambassador Thomas Mandigora as a trained journalist who worked well with others in the media and had a jovial personality. He said:

He was a director of news and current affairs at ZBC. He was our mentor and we worked very well.
He was a loving friend and a mentor who has a passion for his job. Our hearts bleed because we lost a hero.

His colleagues have requested a hero status for him.

Ambassador Thomas Mandigora Has Died

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba has claimed that the late former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai was irked by Nelson Chamisa in 2009 and had to ask then president, Robert Mugabe to give him a ministerial portfolio to pacify him.
Charamba made the claim on Twitter while responding to Chamisa&#8217;s post outlining his &#8220;achievements&#8221; during the Government of National Unity (GNU) era.
Chamisa, who now leads CCC, said he introduced the Zimbabwe ICT policy framework, made ICT products cheaper and affordable, and removed duty on ICT products among other achievements.
He was responding to one Nzekete AG who had asked what he (Chamisa) achieved when he was ICT Minister during the GNU era.
However, Charamba said Chamisa did not achieve anything but the ICT policy framework he alluded to was introduced by Mugabe.
Charamba also claimed that Chamisa and the current CCC vice president were troublesome to Tsvangirai who then asked Mugabe to appoint them to the Cabinet to get them off his back. Wrote Charamba:

Late President RG Mugabe started a campaign to computerise schools and colleges long before Chamisa was known.
The late President would save from his Travel and Subsistence allocation to build a fund for buying computers.
Lawrence Kamwi, then his Principal Private Secretary, minded that Fund, with Wonder Nyamurima who is still in Government, handling the distribution programme in schools.
Our first donation was at a high school very close to Kadhani in Mondoro. All this was well before GNU, which is when Chamisa appears, even then as a Mugabe appointee.
Then came GNU; late Tsvangirai pleaded with President Mugabe kuti kamukomana aka kanondinetsa (this young boy is a nuisance) if you don’t give him a bone.
He said the same naTendai Biti, who was his other headache. VaMugabe heard Tsvangirai and then asked: saka tokaisepi? (what portfolio should we give him) Tsvangirai: chero kwamada kusina basa (give him even a useless portfolio).
VaMugabe then said: Computers and ICT are generation-specific in that they are needed by our youths; I will put him there so he plays champion among his age-mates.
That’s how Chamisa was appointed, even though he had no clue. The programme had long taken off. VaMugabe had another reason: strangely, during negotiations, our side had ceded Information and Publicity to MDC-T.
I and Jonathan Moyo raised hell and ended up engaging the President for this ill-thought decision. MaChinja were not amused.
President Mugabe then created ICT ministry whose mandate was drafted by Madame Nhekairo.
It was another disaster as several corporates, including telecommunications, were ceded to ICT.
Again, we went back to complain, unsuccessfully this time! The late President reasoned that we did not need to fear as Ministry control of telecommunications companies would be minimal given the presence of POTRAZ as the regulator.
The late President engaged Hewlett Packard, which has just been taken over by the Chinese as LENOVO.
Computers were already flowing in. Prices for SIM cards fell because of competition hotting up in telecomms industry, and in line with global trends.
Chamisa did absolutely nothing besides presiding over the inevitable!!!!!!
&#8230; Kakagara kachitemesa Tsvangirai musoro; iko naBiti. At some point Tsvangirai wanted Biti fired.
Biti was saved by vaMugabe who by then knew Biti was preparing to break away. Tsvangirai aida kutsvaira Biti kuSpecial Congress yakaitwa Bhuruwayo.
Biti mounted a well-funded, donor-driven counter (Americans poured money kwete mbijana) and neutralised Tsvangirai.
Biti would later confide this to President Mugabe in Cape Town where both attended WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM!!!! Tinenge takanyarara not because we do not know!!!!

"Tsvangirai Asked Mugabe What To Do With Chamisa, Biti"

Harare East MP, Tendai Biti (CCC), says Zimbabwe is in the hands of kleptomaniacs hence there is a need for citizens to vote ZANU PF out of power in the upcoming general elections.
Biti was speaking to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/https-www-newzimbabwe-com-zim-being-run-by-kleptomaniac-govt-biti/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> in Ward 9 Tafara, where he was conducting a door-to-door campaign as the opposition party prepares for general elections. He said:
<blockquote>
It’s urgent that there is Change and transformation in Zimbabwe. We are run by kleptomania, a government (that) steals and steals and cannot look after its poor. Mthuli Ncube has failed and failed in absolute terms.
</blockquote>
According to Mayo Clinic, kleptomania is a mental health disorder that involves repeatedly being unable to resist urges to steal items that you generally don&#8217;t really need.
Recently, American economist Steve Hanke said Zimbabwe’s inflation currently stands at 666%.
Hanke also named Zimbabwe as the most miserable country in the world and said &#8220;ZANU PF operates more like a political Mafia than a political party.”
Meanwhile, Biti said he has a track record in leadership and &#8220;has been in the struggle since 1986 as a student.” He said:

Harare East has the national duty of returning Tendai Biti to Parliament so he can continue working for the country.

Zimbabwe Being Run By A Kleptomaniac Government, Says Biti

ZANU PF Mashonaland West province party members have been ordered to delete all WhatsApp groups linked to the ruling party with immediate effect.
According to a notice issued by ZANU PF Mash West province’s Information Department secretary, Godwin Nigel Murambiwa, all WhatsApp groups created for members to discuss party-related business must be closed forthwith. Reads the notice:

The Department of Information would like to advise all members, cadres, Cdes, and all affiliates organisations that an instruction has been issued by the security department to dissolve or delete all WhatsApp groups that talk or have links with the party ZANU PF with immediate effect.
However, constituents are allowed to formulate, manage and organise one group incorporating every party member.
All secretaries for information from all organs are therefore empowered to monitor the activities of the groups in constituencies.
</blockquote>
Murambiwa warned members who would ignore the instruction that they will be dealt with in accordance with the party constitution.
Last month ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa accused CCC supporters of cyber-bullying after they allegedly hijacked the ruling party&#8217;s WhatsApp groups to campaign for their leader Nelson Chamisa. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200010384/ccc-hijacks-zanu-pf-campaign-platforms">NewsDay</a> quoted Mutsvangwa as saying:

We are being trolled. They are infiltrating our software. The WhatsApp groups were created by some ZANU PF members who wanted to interact with the people on behalf of the President.
We have the support of people. Cyber war games against ZANU PF won&#8217;t work.
It will not affect the outcome of the poll. There are hardly a million on social media.
The majority of Zimbabweans don&#8217;t have smartphones, especially in rural areas so social media won’t be effective to remove ZANU PF.

ZANU PF Bans Party Members' WhatsApp Groups

Zimbabwe&#8217;s main opposition Citizens&#8217; Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said that the country is under a dictatorship that is worse than during the late former president Robert Mugabe&#8217;s reign.
Addressing a high-profile United Nations Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy 2023 in Switzerland on Tuesday, Mahere Zimbabwe has a governance crisis that can only be resolved through a free and fair election. She said:
<blockquote>
Zimbabwe suffers under a dictatorship worse than Mugabe. Almost half the population suffers from extreme poverty because those in power would rather loot and persecute than lead.
Only a free, credible election can resolve the governance crisis. Political prisoners must be freed.
</blockquote>
Mahere claimed that half of Zimbabwe&#8217;s population lives in extreme poverty while billions are being looted by the ruling elite. She said:
<blockquote>
Half the population lives in extreme poverty, US$2.2 billion is lost to corruption annually and we have the highest hyperinflation rate in the world – all because those in power would rather loot and persecute than lead.
</blockquote>
Mahere said the conviction of Transform Zimbabwe (TZ) president Jacob Ngarivhume for incitement to public violence is a warning by the ruling elite that participating in opposition politics is punishable. Said Mahere:

The government’s war against freedom and its weaponisation of the law against myself and other government critics such as Sikhala and Ngarivhume is calculated to send a chilling message to the rest of society – We’re watching you, even on Twitter and this is the punishment you get for participating in opposition politics.

Ngarivhume was recently sentenced to three years imprisonment, while another prominent opposition figure, Job Sikhala has been kept in pre-trial detention since June 2022 on allegations of incitement to public violence.

Zimbabwe Now Under A Dictatorship Worse Than Mugabe, Says Fadzayi Mahere

Kadoma Mayor Action Nyamukondiwa and three other MDC-T councillors were recalled after being expelled from the opposition party.
Nyamukondiwa, representing Ward 9, and the other councillors representing Wards 3, 4, and 15 had their positions declared vacant in a letter from Minister of Local Government and Public Works July Moyo to Kadoma town clerk Mr Malvern Dondo. He said:

I wish to inform you that I am in receipt of a letter from the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) stating that Councillor Action Nyamukondiwa of Ward 9, Councillor Edson Muzira Ward 4, Councillor Nigel Rozario Ward 15 and Councillor Michael Mvura Ward 3 have been expelled from the party.
In terms of Section 278(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe as read with Section (1)(k), the above-mentioned wards are now vacant. In terms of Section 121 of the Electoral Act, please proceed to inform the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission of these vacancies.
</blockquote>
The opposition party MDC (Movement for Democratic Change) has been recalling councillors and MPs (Members of Parliament) mainly for their allegiance to the rival Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa.
The recalls started immediately after the Supreme Court had ruled that Chamisa was not the legitimate leader of the MDC. There were internal disagreements and power struggles within the MDC party following the demise of founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai.
The recalls have led to changes in the political landscape of Zimbabwe, with some seats being left vacant and by-elections being held to fill them.

Four MDC-T Councillors, Including Kadoma Mayor, Recalled

Two Mercedes Benz vehicles belonging to the ZANU PF Youth political commissar Lawrence Mbanje were torched at his home in Dulibadzimu, suspected to be a case of intra-party violence.
The incident occurred shortly after Mbanje posted videos attacking fellow ZANU PF members for allegedly planning unsanctioned re-runs of primary elections, which resulted in one faction losing.
The Beitbridge Municipality Fire Brigade and neighbours helped extinguish the fire.
This happens when Zimbabwe is gearing up for harmonised elections scheduled for August this year.
Zimbabwe has a history of intra-party and interparty political violence that dates back to the colonial era. During the struggle for independence, the ruling party, ZANU PF, and the opposition party, ZAPU, were involved in violent clashes. After independence in 1980, ZANU PF became the dominant political party, and the government used violence to suppress opposition parties and dissenting voices.
In the early 2000s, Zimbabwe experienced a wave of political violence, which was linked to land reform policies. The ruling party seized land from white farmers and redistributed it to black Zimbabweans. This led to clashes between supporters of the ruling party and white farmers.
In 2008, Zimbabwe held a presidential election, which was marred by violence. The opposition party, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), accused the ruling party of rigging the election and using violence to intimidate voters. The violence left hundreds of people dead and thousands displaced.
Since then, there have been sporadic outbreaks of political violence in Zimbabwe. In recent years, there have been reports of violence against protesters, activists, and journalists.
Ahead of the by-elections on March 26, 2022, the opposition party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), alleged that ZANU PF was attacking its members across the country.
The government has been criticised for failing to hold perpetrators of political violence accountable. The lack of accountability has created a culture of impunity, which has allowed political violence to continue. The international community has called on the government of Zimbabwe to take action to end political violence and promote democracy and human rights.
Political analysts are afraid that the reports of violence might affect the credibility of this year&#8217;s elections.

ZANU PF Official's Cars Torched In Suspected Intra-party Violence

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the State and the church are inseparable and the relationship dates back to the days of the struggle for independence from colonial rule.
Mnangagwa made the remarks at the centenary celebrations of ZAOGA Forward in Faith Ministries founder, Archbishop Ezekiel Guti held at Glamis Arena in Harare on Sunday. He said:
<blockquote>
The partnership and synergy between the State and Church is inseparable and dates back to the days of our protracted armed liberation struggle.
At cottage 953 in Harare Highfields, ZAOGA was nurtured to ultimately occupy the space that was predominantly a preserve of missionaries from beyond our borders.
</blockquote>
Mnangagwa assured the church that under his Government, freedom of worship is guaranteed. He said:
<blockquote>
I want to assure the Church fraternity that under the Second Republic, freedom of worship is constitutionally guaranteed.
My Government will further facilitate an enabling environment for the Church to carry out the great commission and to win souls, heal the sick and proclaim the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ. 
Equally orphans, widows, the disabled and the elderly must be taken care of.
Together, as the State and Church, let us also nurture a citizenry, especially the youth, who are patriotic, disciplined, morally upright and loyal to our country Zimbabwe.

State And Church Inseparable - Mnangagwa

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lilian_Timveos/">Lilian Timveos</a> has been appointed as the national secretary for training and implementation in the Citizens Against Economic Sanctions (CAES) executive council in the Midlands province.
Temveous has been advocating for the removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by some Western countries at the turn of the millennium.
Martin Zharare, the CAES Executive Director, noted that Lilian Timveos&#8217; appointment would assist in educating women on the negative impact of sanctions. Zharare said:

Lilian Temveos Appointed To Citizens Against Economic Sanctions Executive Council

The family of Dr January Rachilumela Makakavhule-Moyo, a Liberation War Hero who died in 2013, has requested that his remains be dug up from the Provincial Heroes’ Acre in Beitbridge and reburied at his home village.
Dr Makakavhule-Moyo was declared a Liberation War Hero after his death and was buried at the local district heroes&#8217; acre in Makakavhule village. In the notice, Beitbridge Registrar said:

The Registrar’s office in its minutes dated 27/07/22, reference B10/GDA/PR/15/22 has authorised the registration of exhumation and re-burial of Dr January R Moyo’s remains from the Provincial Heroes Acre in Beitbridge to his home on request from the family.
Any person or entity with objections to the above may lodge in writing to the registrar (Beitbridge) within 30 days of publication of this notice.

Dr Makakavhule-Moyo&#8217;s Mini Profile:
He was born on January 1, 1939. 
He trained as a teacher in 1962 following a two-year stint as a temporary teacher.
Dr Makakavhule-Moyo taught at various schools in Beitbridge District for about 57 years until he retired from the profession in 2004 and ventured into the farming business.
Dr Makakavhule-Moyo was a political activist from the early 1960s until independence in 1980. He contributed to the liberation struggle by sourcing and supplying resources for the freedom fighters. During the height of the liberation struggle, he was at one time ambushed and shot by the then-Rhodesian armed forces as he was carrying supplies for freedom fighters. As a result, Dr Makakavhule-Moyo sustained injuries on both legs. He was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo where he was detained under police guard while being interrogated and tortured by the brutal Rhodesian security agents, who were denying him access to treatment.
Between 1985 and 2008, Dr Makakavhule-Moyo was a councillor in Beitbridge Rural District Council during which he also chaired a sub-committee on finance and tender before he was elected vice-chairperson for the local authority.
After independence, Dr Makakavhule-Moyo served ZANU PF in various structures both at district and provincial levels.

Family Wants Late Liberation War Hero Remains Reburied

All 21 African members of the Commonwealth support Zimbabwe&#8217;s return. Zimbabwe left the group in 2003 due to concerns over rights abuses.
President Mnangagwa sought re-admission in 2017, but the process has been slow over alleged human rights abuses in the southern African country.
The Commonwealth is finalising its report on Zimbabwe&#8217;s re-admission, and Baroness Scotland told Mnangagwa that continued repression in Harare was not helpful.
Addressing a post-Cabinet media briefing Tuesday, information minister Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said:

21 African Countries Support Zimbabwe's Return To Commonwealth After 2003 Exit

South Africans want Britain to return the Star of Africa diamond, weighing 530 carats, set in the royal sceptre for King Charles III&#8217;s coronation on Saturday.
The diamond was discovered in South Africa in 1905 and presented to the British monarchy by the colonial government when the country was under British rule. Calls for the diamond&#8217;s return are part of a global conversation about returning colonial-era artwork and artefacts.

I think generally the African people are starting to realise that to decolonise is not just to let people have certain freedoms, but it’s also to take back what has been expropriated from us.

The diamond officially called Cullinan I, and is in the royal sceptre, was cut from the Cullinan diamond, a 3100-carat stone mined near Pretoria. The Imperial State Crown also contains a smaller diamond, Cullinan II. All crown jewels, including the sceptre and the Imperial State Crown, are kept in the Tower of London. A replica of the Cullinan diamond is displayed at the Cape Town Diamond Museum.
Johannesburg resident Mohamed Abdulahi believes the diamond should be returned because it was taken during a time of oppression. Others, like Dieketseng Nzhadzhaba, don&#8217;t feel strongly about it and believe times have changed, making the issue irrelevant.
The value of a diamond depends on many factors, including its carat weight, cut, colour, and clarity. However, the 530-carat diamond known as the Star of Africa is considered priceless due to its historical significance and rarity. It is one of the largest and most famous diamonds in the world and has been estimated to be worth billions of dollars.

King Charles III's Coronation: South Africans Want UK To Return 530-carat Diamond

The UK government sent a letter to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Zimbabwe (APPGZ) defending <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2023/03/19/mnangagwa-invited-to-attend-king-charles-iii-coronation/">the invitation</a> of President Emmerson Mnangagwa to attend King Charles III&#8217;s coronation this Saturday, despite <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2023/04/25/british-mps-advocate-cancellation-of-mnangagwas-invitation-to-king-charles-iiis-coronation/">objections from some MPs</a> who cited allegations of <a class=" MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">human rights abuses</a> in the <a class=" MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">southern African country</a>.
In a letter seen by Pindula News, Andrew Mitchell (MP) the Minister for Development and Africa said they invited Mnangagwa to raise &#8220;concerns over human rights and the need for political reform.&#8221; Reads the letter:

Thank you for your letter of 24 April to the Foreign Secretary, on behalf of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Zimbabwe about President Mnangagwa&#8217;s invitation to the King&#8217;s Coronation and the human rights situation in Zimbabwe. I am replying as the Minister for Development and Africa.
President Mnangagwa was invited to the King&#8217;s Coronation through a process agreed between the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Royal Household. We regularly raise our concerns over human rights and the need for political reform in all official interactions with President Mnangagwa and his Ministers. Our conversations in the margins of the Coronation will allow us to do the same.
I share your concerns at the human rights situation in Zimbabwe. As a Human Rights Priority country, we continue to monitor and raise human rights in Zimbabwe and engage at senior levels, both publicly and privately. The UK wants to see Zimbabwe move along a pathway to being more peaceful, prosperous and democratic. Whilst we have welcomed some areas of progress in recent years, human rights and corruption remain areas of concern. We would like to see the Government of Zimbabwe meet its international and domestic obligations by respecting the rule of law, safeguarding human rights, and delivering genuine political and economic reform for all.

He makes the remarks as <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2023/05/03/president-mnangagwa-says-hes-attending-the-coronation-of-king-charles-iii/">Mnangagwa has already arrived in the United Kingdom</a> to attend the coronation set for this Saturday. Chin&#8217;ono said the UK invites all diplomatic relations to royal events, including North Korea. King Charles doesn&#8217;t make political statements, so Mnangagwa&#8217;s invite isn&#8217;t an endorsement. He added:

So Mnangagwa’s invitation is not out of the blue, and it doesn’t mean that Britain approves of his rule, and it also doesn’t mean that it is an unconditional thawing of relations with Mnangagwa without conditions.
Britain had a choice, inviting Mnangagwa and engaging him on its concerns, or throwing stones and treating him as a political undesirable and pariah, something which encourages Mnangagwa’s hardliners to get worse.
All the other Heads of State are meeting @RishiSunak the British Prime Minister.
Mnangagwa met the Junior Minister responsible for Africa.

Chin&#8217;ono added that the event is a Royal and State event, not exclusively British. Only those endorsed by Britain meet the Prime Minister. He compares the event to an African wedding where everyone is invited, but only important people meet the bride and groom. Kagame met the British Prime Minister and the King, while Mnangagwa met a junior minister. Pictures show the British Prime Minister with other world leaders.
Chin&#8217;ono also said that the invitation of Mnangagwa to the coronation is part of Realpolitik, a political system based on practical considerations rather than beliefs or morals. The King couldn&#8217;t allow politics to interfere with his day, and all countries with full diplomatic relations had to attend. This provided an opportunity for the King to express his concerns through his ministers. Chin&#8217;ono hopes he has given a sensible and easy-to-understand explanation.
The United Kingdom has often expressed criticism towards President Emmerson Mnangagwa&#8217;s rule in Zimbabwe. The UK has raised concerns about human rights violations, lack of media freedom, and political oppression in the country. The UK has also imposed sanctions on several Zimbabwean officials in response to these issues. Additionally, the UK has called for the Zimbabwean government to address issues related to corruption, economic instability, and the democratic process.

Chin'ono: Mnangagwa's Invite To King Charles' Coronation Not Endorsement

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said he is travelling to the <a class=" MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">United Kingdom</a> (UK) to attend the coronation of King Charles III. The Coronation will take place on Saturday 6 May at Westminster Abbey in London.
Mnangagwa told his supporters in Harare:

Hameno zvakahofungwa nemwana waMambokadzi. Mangwana ndoinda kunovona achigadzwa, Charles. Ndikati ko zvino mondikoka kuzovona kugadzwa kwaCharles imwi muna maSanctions zvikahi aah tabvisa vuyai henyu mambo toenda, get respected because we stand our ground.

Loosely translated, Mnangagwa said he didn&#8217;t know what the Queen&#8217;s son was thinking. He said he is going to the UK tomorrow to attend the coronation of King Charles III. He mentioned asking how he could travel with sanctions in place, but UK authorities told him the sanctions had been removed.
Zimbabwe has been under UK sanctions since the turn of the millennium when the southern African country embarked on the fast-track land reform program which was marred by gross human rights abuses.
In September 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International announced that <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2022/09/16/mnangagwa-not-on-uk-sanctions-list">President Mnangagwa was not on the UK sanctions list</a> and could travel to Britain. This followed reports that he would not attend Queen Elizabeth II&#8217;s funeral on September 19, 2022, due to sanctions. A statement from the ministry&#8217;s spokesperson, Livit Mugejo, confirmed that Mnangagwa had appointed <a class=" MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Frederick Shava</a> to represent him at the <a class=" MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">state funeral</a>. He said;

Contrary to fake media statements purportedly coming from Buckingham Palace circulating in the social media space, the Ministry would like to put it on record that His Excellency the President Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa and all his Cabinet Ministers are not on the United Kingdom sanctions list.
The President and His Cabinet Ministers can enter and leave the UK at will on business or personal matters.

The UK has over the years reviewed the sanctions list, adding and or removing some individuals or companies linked to the ruling ZANU PF party.
President Mnangagwa is attending <a class=" MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">King Charles</a> III&#8217;s coronation despite <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/04/25/british-mps-advocate-cancellation-of-mnangagwas-invitation-to-king-charles-iiis-coronation">calls from the House of Lords in England to cancel his invitation</a> due to alleged <a class=" MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">human rights abuses in Zimbabwe</a>. He sees the invitation as a positive step towards improving relations between Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom. He met with the UK Ambassador to Zimbabwe on April 17 to discuss the matter. However, some British Members of Parliament believe that inviting the <a class=" MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Zimbabwean leader</a> was a mistake.

President Mnangagwa Says He's Attending The Coronation Of King Charles III

Julius Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has expressed shock upon learning of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jacob_Ngarivhume">Jacob Ngarivhume</a>&#8216;s imprisonment in Zimbabwe.
Ngarivhume, the leader of the opposition Transform Zimbabwe party, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/04/28/jacob-ngarivhume-sentenced-to-four-years-in-jail">was last month convicted of incitement to public violence and sentenced to four years in jail</a> for a tweet he posted in July 2020. In the tweet, Ngarivhume called for a national shutdown to protest against poor leadership by the ZANU PF-led government.
In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, Malema said Zimbabweans must learn to protect their people especially those fighting corruption. He said:

I was shocked to hear that a Zimbabwean Government has jailed Jacob Ngarivhume @NgarivhumeJacob, for demanding accountability through picket lines on how Covid-19 funds were used in 2020 by kleptocratic politicians. Sending an activist to 4 years imprisonment for simply holding different political views is pathetic. Zimbabweans must learn to protect their own, particularly those who are the voice of the voiceless against the corrupt few. The truth will never be incarcerated; Africa we are one.

Malema&#8217;s remarks come after <a href="http://pindula.co.zw/Jonathan_Moyo">Jonathan Moyo</a>, a former Information Minister now in exile, claimed that <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jacob_Ngarivhume">Jacob Ngarivhume</a>&#8216;s conviction and imprisonment signifies a regression of Zimbabwe’s judiciary system back to the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gukurahundi">Gukurahundi</a> era. The Gukurahundi era was a period of political violence from 1983 to 1987. The Zimbabwean military killed an estimated 10 000 to 20 000 people, mostly ethnic Ndebele, under the pretext of suppressing a rebellion by armed dissidents and due to political tensions between ZANU-PF and PF-ZAPU parties.
Both Zimbabwe and South Africa have constitutional guarantees of political freedoms such as <a class="Markdown_link__9ACHA MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">freedom of expression</a>, assembly, and association. However, Zimbabwe has been criticised for restricting these freedoms through arrests and harassment of <a class="Markdown_link__9ACHA MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">opposition figures</a>, journalists, and activists, while <a class="Markdown_link__9ACHA MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">South Africa</a> has a more open political space but faces concerns of political interference and corruption. The actual practice and implementation of political freedoms can differ based on the government&#8217;s approach to dissent and opposition.

Julius Malema Speaks On Jacob Ngarivhume's Imprisonment

Accountant and activist Vusi Nyamazana says Zimbabweans are haunted by their ancestors, who are angry because the remains of many warriors who fought and died during the 1890s uprising against British colonial rule were never recovered. The skulls of many Zimbabweans from the colonial period ended up in the UK either as trophies or for scientific study.
Bring Back Our Bones (BBOB), a campaign group, aims to recover the missing remains of the uprising&#8217;s heroes so that their spirits can rest. The group formed branches in several countries and petitioned the British government.
Zimbabwe&#8217;s government offered to return the body of Cecil Rhodes in exchange for the skulls of the warriors, but UK&#8217;s foreign office denied having the remains. Zimbabwean authorities suspect that the remains of some leaders of an uprising against British rule in the 1890s (1st Chimurenga), including <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mbuya_Nehanda">Charwe Nyakasikana</a>, known as <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mbuya_Nehanda">Mbuya Nehanda</a>, were taken to the UK as trophies. Other skulls reportedly in UK museums and displayed as trophies of war belong to:

However, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2022/10/30/uk-museum-cambridge-university-say-theyre-ready-to-return-skulls-to-zimbabwe">London&#8217;s Natural History Museum denied having Nehanda&#8217;s skull</a>, and although it has uncovered 11 remains that appear to be from Zimbabwe, its records do not connect them with Nehanda. 
BBOB is part of an emerging frontier in the wider restitution struggle, as campaigners turn their attention to body parts that were plundered and transferred to museums. They are calling for archives to be opened and documentation produced on the period when the bones were taken. They are considering legal action to compel transparency and intend to produce DNA samples from descendants of the warriors to match them with Zimbabwean skulls held in the UK. However, activists are aiming higher than negotiating with museums, as they believe the British monarchy, including the new monarch, is ultimately responsible. Mr Nyamazana said:

The Crown issued a Royal Charter in 1889 to [Cecil] Rhodes to conquer our lands. Everything he did was in the name of the Crown. It is in this regard that we hold the Crown vicariously liable and answerable for these crimes that were committed.
We are appealing to the Crown to make amends by instructing her subjects to seek our skulls and return them.

There are signs that attitudes towards the return of human remains are changing. Such developments are welcomed by campaigners seeking to be reunited with lost relatives, as the issue is considered both a moral and spiritual one. They believe that the remains belong to them and should be given proper funerals.
Museums and state institutions across the Western world have vast collections of remains, including ritualistically shrunken heads from Latin America, Egyptian sarcophagi, and skulls of anti-colonial fighters. Many of these remains were used in race science exhibits that reflected the racist belief in European superiority during colonialism.

Stannard, also known as Dan, died on March 30 at the age of 85 at Ely, Cambridgeshire after living in Mill Lane for over 20 years. He began his career in Africa in 1957 as a member of the British South Africa Police (BSAP) and eventually rose to the rank of chief superintendent before retiring in 1981.
Stannard&#8217;s work with the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) led to him foiling a plot to assassinate Mugabe and other dignitaries, including Prince Charles, at Zimbabwe&#8217;s independence ceremony in 1980. For his actions, he was awarded the Gold Cross of Zimbabwe.
His citation, signed by Robert Mugabe, read:

Mr Stannard’s timely and immediate reaction to the presence of suspicious characters saw the almost ripe South African plot foiled and the country was saved from a bloody war, not to mention the human life saved.

After retiring in 1994, he worked as a lobbyist and security consultant. He had a passion for cricket, tennis, and rugby, and was a former member of the Zimbabwe Cricket Union. He moved back to Britain in 2002 with his family and settled in Fordham. He served as a sacristan at Kirtling church for several years.

David Daniel ‘Dan’ Stannard <a href="https://www.bsapolice.org/obituary-david-daniel-dan-stannard/">is survived</a> by his six children, Alison, Jaqueline ‘Jackie’, Catherine, Jennifer, David and Mark. Dan’s wife, Patricia Margaret Brown, passed away in September 2021.
Stannard was born on November 28, 1937, in Pershwar, Pakistan, where his father, William, served in the British Army with a Gurkha Regiment during World War II.
He was christened on December 30, 1937, and had three brothers and three sisters. Stannard travelled to Africa aboard the Arundel Castle and joined the British South Africa Police in 1957, where his older brother, Bernard W Peter Stannard PMM, was already a serving officer.

Funeral Of Man Who Foiled A Plot To Assassinate Prince Charles And Robert Mugabe On Tuesday

President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> (ED) believes that the participation of the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom at the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_International_Trade_Fair">Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF)</a> is proof that his efforts to improve relations with other countries are working.
He made this statement to journalists after touring the fair, which ended on Saturday, 29 April 2023. The president told journalists:

The Americans are here, the British are here, the EU is here. What else would we want? Everybody is here. So this engagement and re-engagement policy is bearing fruits. Perhaps, they heard that the Majesty is coming. That’s why they are here.

Zimbabwe’s relations with the West have been strained due to political and economic issues, resulting in sanctions being imposed on the southern African nation. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has attempted to improve relations through his re-engagement policy, but progress has been slow due to concerns over human rights and governance. Some positive developments have occurred, such as the resumption of development aid by the EU and new funding pledges by the UK, but there are still obstacles to the full normalization of relations.
This year, over 20 countries participated at the ZITF, compared to only 13 last year. Angola, Belarus, Botswana, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Netherlands, Nigeria, South Africa, Sweden, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America and Zambia were the countries that participated.
The EU was the largest exhibitor, occupying 33 square meters of exhibition space, as reported by ZITF Company chairman Busisa Moyo. There were 533 exhibitors in total, taking up 46 631 square meters of exhibition space, which is 97% of the available space. This is an improvement from last year when the total space occupied was 45 786 square meters.
King Mswati III of the Royal Kingdom of Eswatini officially opened the fair and emphasized the need for greater trade and investment cooperation between Zimbabwe and Eswatini. He noted that while Eswatini imports over USD$2 billion worth of goods annually from Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe imports over USD$5.6 billion worth of goods annually from Eswatini. Despite this, trade and investment between the two countries remain insignificant compared to their economic connections with the rest of the world. Therefore, he called for closer trade and investment collaboration between the two countries.

US, UK, EU Participation At ZITF Proof That Re-engagement Is Working  - ED

The African National Congress (ANC), the ruling party in South Africa, plans to pull out the country from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
This is the second time the ANC has attempted to do so. The decision was made after the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on March 17, accusing him of illegally deporting hundreds of children from Ukraine.
President Cyril Ramaphosa told reporters during a state visit by Finnish president Sauli Niinisto:

The governing party, the African National Congress, has taken that decision that it is prudent that South Africa should pull out of the ICC, largely because of the manner in which the ICC has been seen to be dealing with (these) type of problems.
</blockquote>
Just two days before this announcement, South Africa’s parliament said it would stop its seven-year-long effort to withdraw from the ICC’s Rome Statute. This was because the ruling party had decided in December to stay in the ICC and work for changes from the inside, but now they have changed their mind and want to leave the ICC after all.
The international arrest warrant for Putin was issued after he had been invited to attend the BRICS summit in South Africa in August. If he comes to South Africa, he could be handed over to the ICC in The Hague.
South Africa’s official in charge of relations with BRICS countries confirmed that Putin had been invited by President Ramaphosa and Russia had indicated attendance. The Kremlin has not yet decided whether Putin will attend. If he does, it could restart the process to withdraw South Africa from the ICC, but that process takes a long time and is unlikely to be completed before the summit.
In 2016, three African countries – Burundi, the Gambia, and South Africa – announced their intention to leave the International Criminal Court (ICC), leading to concerns that more countries would follow. However, only Burundi and South Africa formally communicated their decision to withdraw. The Gambia initially said it would withdraw but changed its mind after a new government was elected. Despite the African Union’s agreement for a collective withdrawal from the ICC, no other countries have left the court. South Africa revoked its notice of withdrawal in March after being forced to do so by its own courts for not following proper legal procedures. <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/10/27/burundi-first-to-leave-international-criminal-court">Burundi eventually withdrew in 2017.</a>
Some African leaders, including Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni, Rwanda’s Paul Kagame, and Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta, have criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC), calling it a “bunch of useless people,” a tool of global power politics, and not about justice.
Many Africans feel that the ICC disproportionately targets African countries and does not respect their sovereignty. However, ICC’s former prosecutor Fatou Bensouda dismissed these criticisms, noting that most cases were initiated by the countries themselves. 
Even as the AU was reported to have adopted a mass withdrawal strategy, some countries, such as Nigeria, opposed it, particularly the idea of leaving en masse.
Critics say that Sudan and Libya were referred to the ICC by the UN Security Council, even though three of the five veto-wielding countries on the council (China, Russia, and the United States) are not ICC members. These critics argue that the Security Council was quick to indict leaders of these two countries, but efforts to refer countries like Syria have been blocked by some of these same countries.

As far back as 2013, Kenya wanted sitting presidents to be exempt from trial while South Africa called for presidents’ immunity from prosecution to be respected.

South Africa To Pull Out Of ICC - Ramaphosa

The House of Lords in England is advocating for the cancellation of President <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a>‘s invitation to attend the coronation of King Charles III due to alleged human rights abuses in Zimbabwe.
President Mnangagwa has accepted<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mnangagwa-invited-to-attend-king-charles-iii-coronation/"> the invitation</a> and sees it as a positive step towards improving relations between Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom. He met with UK Ambassador to Zimbabwe Melanie Robinson on April 17 to discuss the matter and also matters of trade and investment. Nevertheless, some British Members of Parliament believe that inviting the leader of Zimbabwe was a mistake. They said:

Kwekwe the previous day, Zimbabwe’s vice-president, Constantino Chiwenga, told the crowd that <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/chiwenga-threatens-to-crush-ccc-when-time-is-ripe/">Zanu-PF would “crush the [CCC] party like lice”.</a>
In October 2022, Bulawayo MP, <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Jasmine_Toffa">Jasmine Toffa</a> had her <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/just-in-ccc-says-suspected-zanu-pf-thugs-attacked-and-injured-bulawayo-mp-ccc-members/">arms fractured in an attack by Zanu-PF supporters</a> when she was campaigning for a local council candidate and there are regular reports of local party campaigners and councillors being attacked, tortured and murdered with direct incitement from Zanu-PF leaders.
This month on April 6th, <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/amnesty-international-has-condemned-conviction-of-fadzayi-mahere/">Amnesty International shared a statement</a> on the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mahere-faces-20-years-in-prison-after-being-found-guilty-of-communicating-falsehoods/">conviction</a> of opposition party spokesperson, <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Fadzayi_Mahere">Fadzayi Mahere</a>, saying, “The conviction of Fadzayi Mahere (on 5 April 2023) is a travesty of justice as it is based on a law that is no longer existent in Zimbabwe and applied to silence dissent. The legal provision that was used to convict Mahere was declared void by the Constitutional Court in 2014. The High Court confirmed this in another case in 2021. The Magistrate Court in this case should have taken note of the decisions of the upper courts and acquitted Mahere. The conviction and sentencing demonstrate the extent to which authorities are willing to go to muzzle critical voices and supress the right to freedom of expression. The authorities are sending a clear message that there is no space for exercising the right to freedom of expression in Zimbabwe.”
A chilling recent development is the issuing of direct threats through the Twitter account of the President’s Office of Communication. The prominent Human Rights and Pro-Democracy advocate Makomborero Haruzivishe had a menacing tweet directed at him following his attendance at a House of Lords debate in January. Then again, just two weeks ago, when he spoke out about corruption, a further threat was tweeted “Do you remember when we sent a team to abduct you and you were begging for your life? We have agents in your location!!!!”. Both came from the account of <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/George_Charamba">George Charamba</a>, Deputy Chief Secretary-Presidential Communications in the Office of the President of Zimbabwe. As President of the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU), Makomborero Haruzivishe was the target of continuous intimidation and prosecutorial harassment, which included 37 arrests and detention without trial of eleven months.
2023 is already proving to be a year of heightened tension due to planned elections in July. Independent sources including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and Reporters Without Borders, are recording rising levels of political repression, arbitrary and politically motivated arrests of elected opposition party members and intimidation of the press. At the same time, the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/cizc-demands-implementation-of-motlanthe-commission-recommendations/">recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry</a>, led by former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe, which was established to investigate widespread violence in the aftermath of the August 2018 elections, have still not been implemented.
The Coronation invitation will inevitably be used by President Mnangagwa as tacit acceptance by the UK of publicly evidenced political violence and repression in the run-up to the forthcoming election and will be deeply demoralising to ordinary Zimbabweans in their struggle for democracy.
We, therefore, urge the government to withdraw President Mnangagwa’s invitation until Job Sikhala MP and other political prisoners are granted their constitutional right to bail and concrete actions are taken to address human rights abuses and guarantee free and fair elections.

British MPs Advocate Cancellation Of Mnangagwa's Invitation To King Charles III's Coronation

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a>, the leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Zimbabwe’s biggest opposition party, denied claims that he was <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Simon_Rudland">Simon Rudland</a>‘s lawyer in 2016. This comes after an Al Jazeera documentary called “Gold Mafia” implicated Rudland in gold smuggling and money laundering activities.
Recently, presidential spokesperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/George_Charamba">George Charamba</a> claimed that Chamisa was one of Rudland’s lawyers, which led to speculation that Chamisa’s silence on the “Gold Mafia” documentary was due to his alleged association with Rudland.

However, Chamisa denied the claim in an interview with a local publication and argued that his critics were directing their anger at the wrong target. Chamisa said:

I am not Emmerson (Mnangagwa). I am Nelson; Mnangagwa is the one who is presiding over this nation and therefore fingers have to point at him because he has the responsibility and the accountability.
He (Mnangagwa) is the one who presides over the Reserve Bank, he is the one who has been entrusted, of course illegitimately, with the stewardship of our national resources, the silverware of the family.
I’m there as the alternative and what has been proven by this Al Jazeera report is what we have always known, that indeed the problem is corruption.

Chamisa stated that he has no relationship with any of the people involved in the scandal and denied representing Rudland. He also criticised the presidential spokesperson for not understanding how lawyers, particularly advocates, function. He said:

In any event, I was not the one who was responsible in that matter; that was an advocate Thabani Mpofu matter and as far as I know advocate Mpofu is one of the finest advocates in the country.
And he acts for his clients, and I am not accountable for that. I did my privileges in advocacy chambers.
So, I would work with advocate Mpofu not as the plea or principal advocate but assisting under the privilege, so it was in the context that we acted in the matter not as my client.

Chamisa Speaks On Claims That He Was Simon Rudland's Lawyer

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party led by Nelson Chamisa has refuted claims it has abandoned jailed Zengeza West MP, Job Sikhala, who has been incarcerated at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison for 303 days.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere told NewsDay on Wednesday that the notion that the party has turned its back on its vice chairman is mere propaganda. Said Mahere:

The suggestion that the citizens have abandoned Honourable Sikhala is obviously propaganda. Nothing could be far from the truth.
Sikhala is a citizen just like all of us; he is a change champion who is at the forefront of working for the citizens in Zimbabwe. He remains one of us.

Sikhala’s spokesperson, Freddy Michael Masarirevu, also said Chamisa made efforts to see Sikhala when he visited him at Chikurubi, saying it showed he loves the jailed lawmaker. Tweeted Masarirevu:

I was at Chikurubhi the day CCiC @nelsonchamisa was made to wait for 4 hours &amp; still denied access to see Hon @JobSikhala1 – He was patient &amp; waited outside whilst phone calls were being made. I even left the place &amp; he remained behind – I see effort, I see love.

Award-winning journalist and government critic Hopewell Chin’ono recently clashed with CCC activists on social media after he accused the party of abandoning Sikhala.
Meanwhile, an independent civic group, Poverty Liberation Movement, co-founded by Sikhala, is mobilising a solidarity visit to his family this Saturday. The group said:

Sikhala was arrested in June 2022 for allegedly inciting public violence following clashes at the funeral wake of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.
Ali, who was a Chitungwiza Municipality employee and resided in Nyatsime, was allegedly murdered by ZANU PF supporter, Pius Jamba.

CCC Has Not Abandoned Job Sikhala - Mahere

Harare West MP, Joanah Mamombe (MDC Alliance) says First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa and her two sons, Collins and Sean are not government officials and therefore, have no right to conduct government business with foreigners.
This comes after pictures of the First Lady and her sons in the company of controversial businessman, Aleksander Zingman, meeting Belarusian Foreign Affairs minister Sergei Aleinik were posted on the Information Ministry’s social media pages last Friday.
Mnangagwa and her entourage last week reportedly chartered a private plane, a Gulfstream G550, to Belarus.
Media reports from Belarus indicate that Mnangagwa met with President Aleksandr Lukashenko to discuss government business.
Under Zimbabwean law, first ladies do not hold official government positions.
Posting on Twitter, Mamombe, who is a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party led by Nelson Chamisa but was elected Harare West MP on an MDC Alliance ticket in 2018, said Zimbabwe’s future is being mortgaged in plain sight to benefit a few elites. She said:

Auxillia and Sons (Pvt) LTD, are they government officials?
There is no minister in sight during those discussions which were called, “Deepening Bilateral relations”, by state media.
It is the First Lady and her sons doing govt business, in what capacity? To whose benefit?
The nation is being mortgaged in plain sight. The future of Zimbabwe is mortgaged for the benefit of an elite few.

Meanwhile, Team Pachedu has urged Parliament to investigate the agreements that were signed between Mnangagwa and Belarusian officials. They wrote:

Grace Mugabe never crossed this line. Auxillia Mnangagwa does not have the constitutional mandate to sign foreign agreements on behalf of Zimbabweans, or in the name of Zimbabwe. Parliament must probe this Belarus scandal!

When presidential spokesperson George Charamba was asked whether the First Lady’s Belarus visit was official or private, he kept saying: “Hello, hello, hello”.
Foreign Affairs ministry spokesperson Livit Mugejo also referred all questions to the First Lady’s office.

"Auxillia And Sons (Pvt) LTD", Mamombe Says Zimbabwe's Future Is Being Mortgaged

United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) president, Elisabeth Valerio, said that Zimbabweans are now tired of ZANU PF and MDC/CCC and are yearning for another political party that will fulfill their aspirations.
Since the year 2000, the country’s political landscape has been dominated by ZANU PF and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) which recently morphed into the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC).
<a href="https://cite.org.zw/zimbabweans-are-tired-of-zanu-pf-and-ccc-uza/">CITE</a> quoted Valerio as saying her party will provide Zimbabweans with the change they are looking for. He said:

I can understand that has been the norm up to now where Zimbabwe has had these two political parties, either you choose this or that.
Even if you don’t believe in either of them, you think you have to choose the lesser of the two evils.
As the president of UZA, we’ve personally been through so many different communities and sat down with people.
They don’t want either of those two parties mentioned, they don’t want CCC and don’t want ZANU PF.
… Most people do comprehend and understand that the second larger political parties, whether it is MDC or CCC, have been in government.
It’s not like they are coming to the political space today. They have disappointed and so many people have been let down, promises have been broken.

UZA participated in by-elections that were held last year and performed poorly, having failed to win a single seat.
Valerio acknowledged that it is difficult for voters to trust a political party when they do not know much about it or have the opportunity to see what it can do.

Zimbabweans Are Now Tired Of ZANU PF And CCC - Valerio

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has urged journalist and government critic Hopewell Chin’ono and party activists to desist from verbally attacking each other on social media platforms.
Chin’ono clashed with some CCC activists on Twitter including Makomborero Haruzivishe after he said the opposition party was “dead as a Dodo”.
The idiom, dead as a Dodo, is mostly used in casual communication or as slang. It originates from the fact that the dodo bird is no longer in existence.
The dodo was a bird that lived on the island of Mauritius. It was somewhat like a turkey and couldn’t fly and was hunted to extinction.
The phrase is used to stress that someone or something is dead.
Posting on Twitter this Monday, Chamisa said he was just back from the Easter retreat in the countryside where the network is zero. He wrote:

Fellow Citizens, Brothers &amp; Sisters a lot has happened, this is not the time to trade barbs and fight each other. We give oppressors oxygen and a lifeline.
Let’s fix our eyes on the prize. We must win change for everyone. Let there be peace &amp; love! We’re #OnePeople Zimbabwe!
</blockquote>
On being asked by one of his followers if CCC was indeed as dead as a Dodo, Chamisa said:

It matters not.. calling an elephant a rat a million times doesn’t make it a rat. We are a juggernaut!
Everyone knows this, especially those who oppose, dislike, and can’t handle us! Keep shining!
</blockquote>
Chamisa, however, made a veiled attack on Chin’ono, saying weak people attack others instead of offering solutions to problems. He said:

Weak people criticize others. Strong people criticize themselves and give ideas and solutions. Let’s all be strong people. Stronger together!
