Pasuwa reveals why he left out reigning Goalkeeper of the Year in AFCON squad

Warriors coach Callisto Pasuwa has spoken on why he left Goalkeeper of the Year and FC Platinum captain Petros Mhari in his AFCON 2017 provisional squad.

Speaking to Daily News, Pasuwa said:

It was a marathon coming up with the Afcon squad and it’s not like we just woke up to say we are going to play in Gabon tomorrow. It is important to note that from the players that we have been using at Chan, Cosafa and during the qualifiers, we were preparing for the Afcon tournament. I know there are some people who feel Mhari should have been included in the team but it was also difficult for us. There is no doubt Mhari is a good goalkeeper and I admire him a lot but it was difficult for me and my technical team to start introducing new players into to the team at this crucial stage.

He also dismissed rumours that he had anything against Mhari and said that he chose Tatenda Mukuruva, Donovan, Chadya and Mawaya because he has worked with them before and is aware of their strengths and weaknesses.
