Police bans marching or gathering in response to NERA's electoral reforms march

Officer Commanding Harare Central District Superintendent Jasper Chizemo the Zimbabwe Republic Police has banned marching and gathering in the central business district in response to the National Electoral Reform Agenda (NERA)’s planned march today.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Inspector Paul Nyathi said Chizemo called for a stakeholder meeting on Monday and the stakeholders agreed that NERA could not hold a march or conduct a gathering at Robert Mugabe Square. Said Nyathi:

According to the regulating authority who is the Officer Commanding Harare Central District, there will be no marching or gathering in Harare central business district (CBD). We have however noted that some section of the media are insinuating that the demonstration has been allowed through a High Court order. Police are not aware of the said order.
