Tobacco farmers have warned the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) that they will stop selling their crop if the TIMB sanctions the Zimra directive to withhold 10 percent tax. The tax will be withheld from farmers without a valid tax clearance certificate.
The farmers are arguing that the 10 percent tax should be shelved as it goes against the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s 5 percent export incentive. So far the TIMB is yet to implement Zimra’s directive as there are real concerns that the farmers may carry out their threat to boycott selling their tobacco crop.
