Thousands converge for the burial of Amai Mwazha

Thousands of people converged at N.C Mwazha Plot in Chivhu yesterday, for the burial of Mrs Joyce Makaonesu Mwazha, wife of church leader Archbishop Paul Mwazha. Her husband is the founder and leader of the African Apostolic Church (AAC). Mrs Mwazha was 79.

She died on Saturday afternoon at her home in Hatfield, Harare after losing a long battle to diabetes.

Mrs Mwazha is survived by Archbishop Mwazha, five children — Nephious Chiseko, John Mark, Mary, Tabita, Anna, Tendai and Tawanda, 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Minister of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development Cde Nyasha Chikwinya said:

She (Mrs Mwazha) encouraged women to join the church, to be self-reliant and pursue their dreams. It is evident from the support she rendered to her husband that she managed to reach out to more than half a million women across the country.

We have lost an icon in the women’s economic empowerment, a very steady woman, who was commanding over half a million Zimbabwean women through the AAC led by Mutumwa Mwazha.
