8 people died on the spot when a haulage truck collided head-on with a Toyota Hiace commuter omnibus on Friday night. The accident occurred near Summerview shopping centre in Zhombe along Gokwe-Kwekwe highway. Three people later died at the hospital while several others were injured. The truck reportedly first sideswiped an ox-drawn cart which had three people on board before swerving to the right and encroaching onto the lane of the oncoming commuter omnibus resulting in the head-on collision.
All three people who were in the scotch cart died while 8 people in the commuter omnibus died.
