Three people died while seven others were injured when a kombi they were travelling on overturned along the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road on Friday.
Police said a Nissan Caravan vehicle, which had ten passengers on board, burst a front tyre and overturned several times. Police tweeted:

The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 42-kilometre peg along Masvingo-Mbalabala Road on 08/09/23 in which three people died whilst seven others were injured.
A front right tyre of a Nissan Caravan vehicle burst resulting in the vehicle veering off the road before overturning several times and landing on its left side.
The vehicle had 10 passengers on board. The bodies of the victims were taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured were admitted at the same hospital.

In another road traffic accident that also occurred on 8 September, a Toyota Hiace kombi that was travelling against traffic overturned and landed on its roof in Harare.
Police said the accident occurred at 1.30 PM along Robert Mugabe Road resulting in 12 people sustaining injuries.

Kombi Accident In Masvingo Claims 3

Police have released the names of five people who were killed in a road traffic accident that occurred at the 7 km peg along Birchenough Bridge – Chipinge Road on 11 August.
In a statement on Monday, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police announces names of five (05) victims who died in a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 7 km peg along Birchenough Bridge – Chipinge Road on 11th August 2023 when a Nissan Caravan vehicle collided with a Mercedes Benz.
The victims were positively identified as follows:-

<li>Susan Sibiya a female adult aged 34,</li>

Police Release Names Of Birchenough Bridge Accident

Two people died in an accident that occurred on August 12, 2023, at approximately 0930 hours along Nyanga-Rwenya Road’s 18-kilometre peg. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the incident and reported that an additional 12 individuals sustained injuries.
According to the police statement seen by Pindula News, the accident involved a Mazda B2500 vehicle carrying 13 passengers, which veered off the road. Reads the statement:

The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 12/08/23 at around 0930 hours at the 18 kilometre peg along Nyanga-Rwenya Road in which two victims were killed whilst 12 others were injured.

Two Die, 12 Injured In Nyanga-Rwenya Road Accident

A church leader, his wife and mother died in a road traffic accident along Mutare Road on Friday evening.
<a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/ultimate-family-tragedy-bishop-wife-mother-die-in-horror-crash/">H-Metro</a> reported that Flaming Word Worship Centre church bishop, Zondiwa Mafuleni, his wife Patricia, his mother and three other relatives died in the accident.
They were returning from a funeral in Honde Valley when the tragedy struck.
The ZRP, in a post on Twitter on Sunday, confirmed the accident saying 11 passengers were on board a Mitsubishi minibus. Reads the post:

Six people died while six others were injured when a Mitsubishi minibus with 11 passengers on board was hit on the left side by a Freightliner Columbia truck, with one passenger on board, at the 158 km peg along Harare-Mutare Road on Friday, at around 1830hrs.

Six Family Members, Including Bishop, Wife And Mum, Perish In Minibus Crash

Statement by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Nyathi on fatal road traffic accidents in Masvingo, Rusape, Esigodini, and Murewa:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 28th July 2023 at around 1530 hours at the 35-kilometre peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road where six (6) people were killed whilst six (6) others were injured.
A Nissan Caravan vehicle with thirteen (13) passengers on board veered off the road to the right and overturned before landing on its wheels.
Three (3) of the six (6) victims were positively identified by their next of kin as listed:-
<ul>
<li>Murenjekwa Tendai (76), a female adult of Silver City, Chivi,</li>
<li>Moyo Gracious (40), a male adult of Muera Village, Shumba, Chivi,</li>
<li>Muzondiwa Leonard (49), a male adult of Southerton, Harare.</li>
</ul>
The other three (3) victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin. The bodies of the victims were taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital.
Meanwhile, six (6) people died whilst six (6) others were injured when a Mitsubishi mini-bus with eleven (11) passengers on board was hit on the left side by a Freightliner Columbia truck with one (1) passenger on board at the 158-kilometre peg along Harare-Mutare Road on 28th July 2023 at around 1830 hours.
As a result of the accident, the Mitsubishi mini-bus which was overtaking a convoy of vehicles was dragged by the Freightliner Columbia truck to the right for about forty (40) metres.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Rusape General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital.
In another fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 28th July 2023 at around 2000 hours at the 56-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road, four (4) people were killed when a Honda Fit vehicle with three (3) passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a Shacman F 3000 haulage truck with no passengers on board.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Esigodini District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
On 27th July 2023 at around 1450 hours at the 150-kilometre peg along Harare-Nyamapanda Road, two (2) people died whilst one (1) person was injured when a Nissan NP 300 vehicle with two (2) passengers on board veered off the road before hitting a tree.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Kotwa Hospital mortuary for post-mortem whilst the injured person is admitted at the same hospital.
Meanwhile, one (1) person was killed whilst eleven (11) others were injured when the left rear tyre of a Nissan Vannette vehicle burst, resulting in the vehicle veering off the road to the right before overturning and landing on its right side at the 30-kilometre peg along Harare -Nyamapanda Road on 27th July 2023 at around 1600 hours. The vehicle had eleven passengers on board.
The body of the victim was taken to Murewa Hospital mortuary for post-mortem whilst the injured were admitted at Chipfumbi Clinic, Juru.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that motorists should be patient on the roads and avoid overtaking when it is not safe to do so. Above all, drivers are urged to be observant and avoid speeding.

Fatal Road Traffic Accidents In Masvingo, Rusape, Esigodini, And Murewa

Six (6) people died in a road traffic accident that occurred in Rusape along the Harare-Mutare Road on Friday evening.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident to <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2023/07/29/six-perish-in-road-accident/">ZBC News</a>, saying three people died on the spot while the others died on admission at Rusape General Hospital.
Asst Comm Nyathi said that a Harare-bound commuter omnibus side-swiped a haulage truck, as the driver tried to overtake at a sharp curve before Rusape tollgate.
Six other people who were in the commuter omnibus are admitted at Rusape General Hospital after sustaining injuries.

Six People Killed In Rusape Kombi Accident

Four people were killed along the Harare-Mutare Road near Mabvuku turn-off on Monday, 17 July, at around 5.30 AM following a head-on collision involving two Honda Fit cars.
Police said a Honda Fit vehicle with four passengers on board hit a pedestrian before veering to the right where it collided head-on with another Honda Fit vehicle with one passenger on board.
On Tuesday, ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi released the names of three (3) of the four (4) accused victims. They are:

<li>Roseline Mudzimbasekwa (38), a female adult of Zimre Park, Harare</li>
<li>Sharon Chigwada (46), a female adult of New Mabvuku, Harare</li>

Asst Comm Nyathi said the other victim’s next of kin has not yet been located. He implored drivers to exercise caution on the roads to prevent the loss of lives.

Four Perish In Mabvuku Turn Off Head-on Collision

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a fatal road accident that took place on Sunday, July 16, 2023. The accident happened in the morning near Masumo Bridge, Samende area, Binga. In a statement seen by Pindula News, police said a Stallion Cruise bus travelling from Siabuwa to Binga overturned in the accident. The number of people killed and injured has not yet been released. In another case, the police in Murewa are requesting information that may help in the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run road traffic accident. The incident resulted in the death of a 37-year-old man. He was found dead at the 107-kilometre peg along Harare-Nyamapanda road on July 15, 2023. The victim was hit by an unknown motorist who did not stop after the accident.
Police are appealing to the public for relevant information on the accident. 
These reports come just hours after ZRP confirmed two fatal road traffic accidents that occurred on July 13 and 14, 2023. The first accident happened at approximately 7:20 pm at the 18-kilometre mark along Harare-Shamva Road, where a Nissan Caravan carrying eight passengers veered off the road, overturned several times, and landed on its roof. Seven people died, and two others were injured. The second accident occurred at around 7:40 am on July 14 along Natview-Hobhouse Road, Mutare. The first accident happened at approximately 7:20 pm at the 18-kilometre mark along Harare-Shamva Road, where a Nissan Caravan carrying eight passengers veered off the road, overturned several times, and landed on its roof.
In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, ZRP said seven people died, and two others were injured. The deceased were taken to Shamva Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while the injured are receiving treatment at Bindura Hospital. Reads the report:

Police Confirm Death Of 7 People In Harare - Shamva Road Accident

Four people were killed while six others were injured in a road traffic accident involving three vehicles at the 77-kilometre peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road just before 8 PM on Sunday, 09 July.
In a statement, the ZRP said the fatal crash involved a Toyota Fortuner vehicle that had six passengers on board, a Freightliner truck with four passengers on board, and a Honda CRV vehicle that had two occupants. Reads the statement:

Four People Killed In Horror Crash Along Harare-Chirundu Road

Five family members who were coming from paying lobola on Saturday were killed in a road traffic accident when the Toyota Allion they were travelling on collided with a BM Transport bus along the Harare-Masvingo Road.
The deceased have been named as Varaidzo Musapurwa (32), Maila Dungwizha (1) Tatenda Kisi (22), Mudonhi Chihuri (33) and Alexio Kamumvuri (48).
An unnamed relative who spoke to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/five-relatives-perish-in-road-accident/">H-Metro</a> said the deceased were all buried in Karoi. Said the relative:

As a family, we are very saddened as this is something that we were not expecting.

Nine people died, while 12 others were injured in a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on Monday evening along the Harare-Chirundu Highway. The accident involved a Nissan Caravan and Honda Fit vehicles that collided head-on.
The injured are currently receiving medical treatment at Sally Mugabe Central and Inkomo hospitals. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Norton Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem.
Yesterday, the national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, released a statement confirming the fatal road traffic accident. He said:

The bodies of the victims were taken to Norton Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem whilst the injured are admitted at Inkomo and Sally Mugabe Hospitals.

In a separate incident that occurred on the same day, three people died, and four others sustained injuries when a Toyota Hilux vehicle with nine passengers on board veered off the road and hit the trailer of a Mthethi Dragon Bus with six passengers on board. The bodies of the victims were taken to Gwanda Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while the injured are admitted to the same hospital.
Assistant Commissioner Nyathi urged the public to avoid boarding pirate taxis and called on drivers to follow road rules and avoid reckless driving, which causes unnecessary loss of lives. He emphasized the importance of road safety and urged everyone to take responsibility for their safety and that of others when using the roads.

Fatal Accident on Harare-Chirundu Highway: 9 Dead, 12 Injured

A 44-year-old man from Harare, Calisto Maravo, has been charged with murder after allegedly killing another person following a parking lot accident at a nightclub in Belgravia.
During his appearance before a Harare Magistrate on Tuesday, Maravo was not asked to plead.
<h3>What Transpired?</h3>
According to the state, on June 24, 2023, Maravo approached Zinzi Musonza and her husband who is now deceased, in the car park and accused her of bumping into another car.
When Musonza’s husband inspected the dent, Maravo punched him in the face with a knuckleduster. He then kicked him repeatedly on the head and neck, leading to his death at the hospital.
Maravo has been remanded in custody until July 12 and advised to seek bail from the High Court.

Harare Man Kills Another Man Following A Parking Lot Accident

Seven (7) people were killed while forty-five (45) others were injured in a road traffic accident involving a CAG bus that occurred in Dotito on Saturday morning.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the accident was a result of a front tyre burst that caused the bus to veer off the road before it overturned and landed on its side. ZRP said in a statement:

Another fatal traffic accident on Saturday claimed the lives of three (3) people and left fifteen (15) others injured at the 137-kilometre point along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.
Police said a Toyota Hilux vehicle carrying 17 passengers veered off the road to the left side, overturned, and landed on its left side.
The bodies of those who died were taken to the Kadoma General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations while the injured were also taken to the same hospital where they were receiving treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kwekwe General Hospital Mortuary for <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">post-mortem</a>, and three victims have been identified. Reads the police statement:

<h2>FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AT 15 KM PEG ALONG KWEKWE – GOKWE ROAD</h2>
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident in which six (6) people were killed whilst seven (7) others were injured at the 15 kilometre peg along Kwekwe-Gokwe Road on 21st May 2023 at about 1800 hours.
A Nissan NP300 with three (03) passengers on board, which was travelling towards Kwekwe, was involved in a head-on collision with a Honda Fit vehicle with eight (08) passengers on board, which was travelling in the opposite direction. As a result of the accident, both drivers and two (02) passengers died on the spot whilst two (02) other passengers died on admission at Kwekwe General Hospital.
Three (3) victims were positively identified by their next of kin as:-Edward Mutimbu, a male adult aged 40 of Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service, Headquarters, Tafadzwa Chokera, a male aged 24 of Zhombe Business Centre, Anna Muzeziwa a female adult aged 42 of Zhombe Mission Hospital.
The other three (3) victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Kwekwe General Hospital Mortuary for post mortem whilst five (5) of the injured victims are admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital. The other two (02) victims are admitted at Gweru General Hospital.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores motorists to be patient on the roads and above all adhere to all road rules and regulations.

Overloading is a common problem with Mshika-shika, as operators often prioritise profits over safety concerns. “Mshika-shika” is a colloquial term used in Zimbabwe to refer to illegally operated commuter omnibuses and other small vehicles that transport passengers in urban areas.

Kwekwe-Gokwe Road Accident Kills 6 People

Fifteen (15) people were injured when an Inter Africa bus they were travelling on was involved in an accident on Monday afternoon at the 68km-peg along the Nyanga-Rwenya Road.
13 of the injured were learners from Emmanuel High School and the other two were the bus driver and conductor.
The accident occurred near the spot where the fatal Regina Coeli bus disaster occurred in 1991.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the accident to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/new-15-injured-in-nyanga-bus-accident/">The Manica Post</a>.
He said the bus had 73 learners on board who were on their way to the school for the start of the second term.
The injured were ferried to Regina Coeli Mission Hospital. Said Insp Muzondo:

The driver lost control of the bus when it developed brake failure before it veered off the road. It landed on its left side on the roadside escarpment.

The accident occurred a day after another Inter Africa bus ferrying learners was involved in an accident along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.
Seventy-five (75) Pakame High School learners narrowly escaped death when their hired Inter Africa bus was involved in an accident along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway on Sunday.
The bus was travelling from Harare to the school which is located in Shurugwi, Midlands Province.

13 Learners Injured In Inter Africa Bus Accident

A bus carrying supporters of Masvingo-based FC Wangu Mazodze was involved in an accident at Makondo Bridge in Rusitu, Chimanimani District on Sunday.
FC Wangu Mazodze plays in the ZIFA Eastern Region Football League. A statement released by the club read:

On a sad note, one of our buses was involved in an accident a few kilometres from Rusitu.
The relevant authorities have been notified and are managing the situation. Let’s keep everyone in our prayers.

According to pictures circulating on social media platforms, the driver apparently lost control of the bus on a sharp curve approaching a bridge causing the vehicle to veer off the road and plunge into the river.
No injuries have been reported so far.

Bus Ferrying FC Wangu Mazodze Supporters Plunges Into A River

About seventy-five (75) Pakame High School learners narrowly escaped death on Sunday when their hired Inter Africa bus was involved in an accident along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.
The bus was travelling from Harare to the school which is located in Shurugwi, Midlands Province.
ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200011245/75-pupils-cheat-death-in-bus-inferno">NewsDay</a>, adding that all pupils escaped unhurt, but some lost property in the fire. He said;

The Pakame High School accident comes after a Tynwald High School bus was involved in a fatal accident in Juliusdale, Nyanga on Friday, 14 October 2022 around 7 PM.
Reports suggested that the driver was speeding and failed to negotiate a sharp curve. The accident claimed the lives of six learners and one teacher.
Most road traffic accidents in Zimbabwe are attributed to human error. Drivers often make mistakes such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, fatigue, or distractions like mobile phones.

Bus Catches Fire With 75 Pakame High School Learners On Board

The owner of Timboom Bus Company Tinoziva Tsvangirai availed ZWL$2.5 million for the victims of a road traffic accident that claimed the lives of more than a dozen people and left others with nursing injuries in Chivhu on Sunday morning.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the Tinboom Coaches bus was carrying 60 passengers, 13 died, and 40 sustained injuries, of which 27 were treated and discharged. 8 are still admitted at Chivhu Hospital, whilst 5 were transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital.
However, on Sunday, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the bus had 40 passengers on board.
In a statement on Monday, Tsvangirai said the company will do its best to ensure that the deceased get a befitting send-off. Said Tsvangirai:

With a profound feeling of grief and sorrow, Tinboom Coaches’ management and staff hereby condole the families of the people who perished in the horrific crash involving one of our buses on April 16, 2023, in Chivhu district. Our prayers and thoughts are with the families of the deceased.
As we continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities in their quest to establish the cause of the catastrophic accident which has so far claimed 13 lives, we would like to pledge our full support to the bereaved families.
We will do our utmost best to ensure that their dear departed get a befitting send-off while at the same time taking active steps to avoid the recurrence of such an accident.
</blockquote>
Survivors who spoke to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/all-buses-to-be-fitted-with-speed-limit-devices/">The Herald</a> on Monday attributed the fatal accident to speeding and bad weather.
Speaking to the media during the hospital visit, one of the survivors Kenneth Makonese, said:
<blockquote>
I think the driver of the bus was speeding. The bus started to swerve and in an instant veered off the road.
I saw the bus crashing and from there, I saw myself outside the bus.
I was with my young brother and my son. So I started looking for them, though I was in pain.
I stepped on the wheel of the bus and looked inside but they were not there.
I continued searching outside, and that is when I saw my young brother lying on the ground.
I rushed there and discovered that he was unconscious. I tried to remove his shoes and shirt, and that is when I saw him bleeding from the nose and mouth.
I knew from that moment that he was not going to make it. When we arrived at the hospital, that is when I was told that he had passed away.
I am in pain. My leg is fractured, and I have chest pains. I am also in pain because my brother is no more. May his soul rest in peace.
</blockquote>
Another survivor Chrispen Makonese attributed the accident to overspeeding and inclement weather. He said:
<blockquote>
When we approached a curve, just before the accident occurred, the bus swerved to the right, and in that instant, the driver tried to control it, and it made another swerve to the left.
The bus then swerved again to the right and it veered off the road. Also, the weather was bad. It was showering and misty and speeding was not a good idea.
In an instant, I just found myself lying on the ground, outside the bus, injured. Other passengers were also outside, some were unconscious, while others were crying, it was just a horrific sight, I do not know how I came outside the bus, but I guess I was thrown outside the window.
I injured my right hand, and I am in pain, but I thank God I am alive.
</blockquote>
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Aplonia Munzverengi called for stiffer penalties for drivers who break road rules and regulations.
The Government has since declared the accident a national disaster.
This means that the Government will provide support towards the burial of the deceased, and also support towards the injured.

Timboom Bus Company Owner Avails $2.5 Million For Accident Victims

Twelve (12) people, including the driver, were killed in a road traffic accident when a bus they were travelling on crashed on the 5km peg along the Murammbinda-Chivhu Road on Sunday morning.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident, saying the driver lost control of the bus before it veered off the road and crashed.
He said the Harare-bound Timboom Coaches bus had 40 passengers on board. Asst Comm Nyathi said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has revealed the identities of five (5) of out the six (6) victims of a fatal road traffic accident that occurred at the 5-kilometre peg along Mvuma – Gweru Road on the 9th of April 2023.
In a statement, ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the victims were positively identified by their next of kin. The names of the deceased are as follows:

<li>Nompumelelo Dube, a female infant aged 1 year of Cowdray Park, Bulawayo,</li>
<li>Fisani Gumbo (31) a female adult of Cowdray Park Bulawayo,</li>

<li>Kudzai Mbirimi (56) a female adult of Emganwini, Bulawayo,</li>
<li>Thembeletu Nkomo a male adult of Nkulumane 5, Bulawayo.</li>
</ol>
The accident at around 11 PM when a Mercedes Benz Sprinter with 24 passengers on board side swiped with a UD truck carrying 31 passengers.
Police said the truck driver did not stop after the accident and was involved in another accident at the 192-kilometre peg along Harare-Masvingo Road.
The truck veered off the road resulting in the injury of three passengers aboard the truck.

Police Release Names Of 10 People Killed In Accident On 7 April

The number of people killed in road traffic accidents during the 2023 Easter Holiday, that is, from 07 to 10 April, was low compared to the 2022 Easter Holiday.
On Tuesday, 11 April, ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi released the 2023 Easter Holiday road traffic accident statistics.
The statistics showed that the total number of road traffic accidents rose to 288 in 2023 from 264 in 2022.
The total number of fatal road accidents fell to 16 during the 2023 Easter Holiday compared to 32 such accidents recorded during the 2022 Easter Holiday.
The number of people killed this year also fell to 30, from 73 recorded during the 2022 Easter Holiday.
The number of injured people also declined from 202 to 153. Said Asst Comm Nyathi:

It is disturbing to note that some of the accidents recorded during the period are attributed to human error, which includes speeding, inattention, misjudgment, and failure to observe road rules and regulations, by drivers.
Most fatal road traffic accidents recorded occurred during the night when travellers were moving in numbers with vehicles overloaded, mixing goods and passengers, in the process ignoring safety measures.
On 7th April 2023 at around 0600 hours, ten people were killed, while 31 others were injured in a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 192 kilometre peg along Harare-Masvingo Highway when a Toyota Caravan kombi collided with a minibus.
In another fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 09th April 2023, at around 2300 hours at the five kilometre peg along Mvuma -Gweru Road, six people died while five others were injured when a Mercedes Benz Sprinter with 24 passengers on board side swiped with a UD truck carrying 31 passengers.
The truck driver did not stop after the accident and was involved in another accident at the 192-kilometre peg along Harare-Masvingo Road where the truck veered off the road resulting in the injury of three passengers who were in the truck.
Meanwhile, two people died while two others were injured when a Honda Fit vehicle with four occupants on board veered off the road and landed beneath the bridge at the 213-kilometre peg along Harare-Masvingo Road on 9th April 2023 at around 2300 hours.
As the country prepares to commemorate Independence Day on 18th April 2023, the Zimbabwe Republic Police implores all motorists to be responsible on the roads and lead by example when it comes to road safety.
Let us all play our part to make roads safe and not death traps, above all drivers, should comply with all road rules and regulations in order to safeguard lives.

30 People Killed In Accidents Over The 2023 Easter Holiday

A truck driver was involved in two separate road traffic accidents on Sunday night leading to six deaths and eight injuries.
Police said the truck side-swiped a kombi at the 5km peg along Mvuma-Gweru Road around 11 PM on Sunday and did not stop.
Six people were killed in the accident while five others were injured and ferried to Mvuma Hospital for medical care.
The truck driver was later involved in another road traffic accident along the Harare–Masvingo Road resulting in three people sustaining injuries. ZRP said:

The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident in which six people died while five others were injured when a truck side-swiped with a Sprinter vehicle at the 5 km peg along Mvuma-Gweru Road on 09/04/23 at around 2300 hours.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Mvuma Hospital for post-mortem while the injured are admitted at the same hospital.
The truck driver did not stop after the accident and was involved in another accident at the 192 km peg along Harare–Masvingo Road where the truck veered off the road resulting in the injury of three passengers who were in the truck.

Police said more details will be released in due course. 
ZRP, however, did not disclose the driver’s identity or the nature of the consignment he was ferrying.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/opinion-amp-analysis/article/76586/procedures-after-an-accident">According to a report,</a> the Road Traffic Act Chapter 13:11 Section 70 sets out the duties of drivers when involved in accidents.
Section 70(2) states that any person, who is a driver of a vehicle on or near a road at the time when the vehicle is involved in or contributes to an accident in which injury is caused to any person or damage to any property or if a person or animal is killed the first duty is to stop immediately.
Failure to stop when an accident occurs is a serious criminal offence — in other words hitting and running is a crime no matter the circumstance.
After stopping, the second duty is to ascertain whether any person has been killed or injured.
The third duty is to render any assistance possible or capable of being reasonably rendered.
If someone has died, the other driver, regardless of fault, has a duty to take all reasonable measures to guard the corpse until the police arrive.
It is a requirement to alert the police immediately if the accident involves another vehicle or is of a serious nature.
Measures should be taken to contact the nearest police station or the traffic police general line.
The police should attend to all accident scenes.
It is an offence to tamper with evidence at an accident scene.

Six people were killed in an accident involving a haulage truck and a commuter omnibus along Gweru-Mvuma Highway on Monday morning.

Haulage Truck, Kombi Collide Outside Mvuma

Police have revealed the names of six ZANU PF members who died in a road traffic accident that occurred along Murambinda Betera Road near Mugombe Primary School on Saturday evening.
On Sunday, police said an Isuzu lorry with 40 passengers on board collided head-on with a Nissan Diesel truck that had one passenger on board resulting in six fatalities, with 18 other passengers injured.
In a statement released on Monday evening, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the victims were positively identified by the next of kin as follows:

Police Confirm Accident That Killed 6 ZANU PF Members In Buhera

Six ZANU PF members died on Saturday evening and 17 others were seriously when a truck they were travelling on was involved in an accident in Buhera.
The lorry reportedly collided head-on with another vehicle in the Mugombe area of Buhera.
According to the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Information, Public and Broadcasting Services Ndavaningi Mangwana, three of the deceased died on the spot and the other three died at Murambinda Hospital. Tweeted Mangwana:

A Lorry carrying ZANU PF supporters was involved in an accident along the Murambinda-Birchnough Bridge road.
Three people died on the spot whilst the other three died at Murambinda Hospital making six deaths.
The other 17 have serious injuries and are in hospital.

ZANU PF held primary elections in Manicaland and other seven provinces on Saturday and party members who were involved in the accident were presumably returning from voting.

Six ZANU PF Members Perish In Lorry Accident

Police have launched a manhunt for one Evans Vengwa who allegedly hit six pedestrians along Kadoma Patchway Road on 22 January this year.
Police said the suspect, who was driving a Honda Fit vehicle, abandoned the car at the scene of the accident and fled.
The victims were rushed to Kadoma Hospital where two died upon admission. Police said:

The ZRP is appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of Evans Vengwa, NR 10-007291-R-10, who is being sought in connection with a hit-and-run fatal road traffic accident that occurred on 22/01/23 along Kadoma Patchway Road.
The suspect, who was driving a Honda Fit vehicle, hit six pedestrians who were walking along the road. Subsequently, after the accident, the suspect ran away leaving the vehicle at the scene.
The victims were taken to Kadoma Hospital where two died upon admission. The suspect’s last known addresses are 2762 Munhumutapa Kadoma and Mudzimu Village, Nyamapanda.

Honda Fit Driver Ploughs Into Six Pedestrians In Kadoma

Five people were killed while three others sustained serious injuries when two vehicles they were travelling on were involved in a head-on collision along the Harare-Masvingo road on Saturday afternoon.
ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/five-die-in-road-accident/">Chronicle</a> which happened on the 159km peg at around 1 PM. He said:

A driver who was driving a Mitsubishi Canter registration number AFV 0664 due south towards Masvingo with two passengers on board had a front right tyre burst, lost control of the vehicle and encroached onto the opposite lane where he had a head-on collision with another motorist who was driving an unregistered Mazda Familiar motor vehicle due north towards Harare with four passengers on board.

Asst Comm Nyathi said all people who were in the Mazda Familiar died on the spot and another person who was aboard the Mitsubishi Canter also died.
He said the bodies of the deceased were taken to Chivhu General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured were also ferried to the hospital for medical attention.
