Mugabe biker in accident, crashes into motorist while clearing way for motorcade

A BMW bike outrider who is part of President Robert Mugabe’s motorcade was badly injured after he crashed into a Toyota Corolla while trying to clear traffic for the president’s motorcade which was on its way to State House.

The biker was quickly removed from the scene by other security details, to allow the president’s motorcade to pass through. The owner of the Toyota Corolla was later questioned by members of Mugabe’s security team. Daily News reports that they were not able to get the name and condition of the biker who was said to have been taken to hospital. Police spokesperson Charity Charamba said yesterday told Daily News that she was not aware of the incident.

In May 2016 one of Mugabe’s outriders crashed into a commuter omnibus whose driver was later charged with negligent driving. In 2012, one of Mugabe’s outriders died when his bike caught fire near Sam Levy village in Borrowdale, Harare. Also in 2012, a male passenger in the minibus died after a police lead vehicle sent to clear traffic ahead of Mugabe’s convoy rammed into a commuter minibus carrying 22 passengers. Fifteen other people including two police officers were seriously injured.
