Zanu-PF MPs reject Mphoko Bill, argue it will reopen old wounds

Yesterday, Zanu-PF legislators rejected the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission Bill which they argued will reopen old wounds such as those of the Gukurahundi atrocities which were resolved with the signing of the 1987 Unity Accord.

Zanu-PF MPs such as Joseph Chinotimba, John Holder and  Oliver Mandipaka were against the passing of the Bill into law in yesterday’s debate. Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko said that the Zanu-PF legislators were opposing the Bill because they are not aware why it has been formulated. The Bill seeks to give powers to the commission to investigate past violence cases as well as create a platform for peace-building.
