43 people die in Zambia bound King Lion bus accident

43 people are reported to have died on the spot while others were injured in a horror crash last night. They were travelling on King Lion bus which was travelling to Zambia. The accident occured in the Nyamakate area of Hurungwe when the bus overturned after hitting a tree.

Police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the accident.  According to her, the driver failed to negotiate a curve indicating that he could have been speeding.

This comes barely two months after a Proliner bus which was travelling to South Africa was involved in another accident which killed 31 people.

24 passengers were injured and have since been ferried to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital.  This is the second accident involving King Lion in less than two years, after another bus overturned in Zambia, while it was heading to Harare in 2015.

[Update]  The death toll has risen to 45 after two of the injured passengers died on arrival at the hospital.
