Govt claims to have signed $460m deal with Chinese for construction of "Disneyland in Africa"

The government says it has signed a comprehensive contract with Chinese investors for the construction of a “Disneyland in Africa” theme park which will be located at the Victoria Falls. This was revealed by Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Walter Mzembi on Wednesday. However, the identities of the investors is yet to be revealed. The theme park is expected to cost $460 million and is seen as a way of rebranding Zimbabwe.

Speaking at a press conference, Mzembi said:

We have signed an overarching agreement with some Chinese developers for a master plan to develop 300ha of land between the (Victoria Falls) airport and Masue River. We need to drive the convention business and direct traffic to ourselves,

Already we are looking at 2020 where we are dreaming of a $5 billion tourism sector in Victoria Falls alone.
