The G40 Faction, which is opposed to Vice President Mnangagwa taking over from President Mugabe, has been accused of working on a damaging documentary which will be used to discredit Mnangagwa if a special congress is called for. Online publication, Khuluma Afrika, alleges that the plot to smear the Vice President was discovered by Military Intelligence (MI). The people mainly associated with the G40 Faction and supposedly the main strategists are Professor Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere and Patrick Zhuwao.

The documentary trashes Mnangagwa’s liberation struggle credentials and alleges that he was arrested in the 1960s for criminal activities instead of liberation-related activities.
The documentary also alleges that Mnangagwa went to exile in Zambia with his family “because he was a banished criminal in the country.”
