Leaders of industry want Zesa to review downwards the electricity tariffs by 44 percent to make Zimbabwean industry more competitive. Industry is currently paying US9c/kWh and want it lowered to between US5c and US7c/kWh. Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries president Mr Sifelani Jabangwe said:
We are looking at a tariff of US5c to US7c/kWh because in some countries there is a lower tariff given to industry than the one that would be paid by general consumers. This is so because they (manufacturers) are adding value.
Electricity Tariffs in Zimbabwe are as follows:
- US9,86c/kWh – domestic consumers
- US9c/kWh – manufacturing
- US12c/kWh – gold miners
