Intelligence reports dating back to 2009 reportedly show that Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa and other political players are already planning to reshape the country in the post-President Rober Mugabe era. According to the documents and sources, Mnangagwa is planning on cooperating with opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai to lead a transitional government for five years. There is a possibility that the government could be unelected to avoid the chaos and violence which have become characteristic of most elections in Zimbabwe. The transitional government plan reportedly has the tacit backing of some members of the Zimbabwe’s military as well former colonial master Britain.
Mnangagwa is also planning on working with white farmers in order to revitalize the economy. According to a Jan. 6, 2016 report:
Mnangagwa realises he needs the white farmers on the land when he gets into power … he will use the white farmers to resuscitate the agricultural industry, which he reckons is the backbone of the economy.
Tsvangirai confirmed that he is willing to work with Mnangagwa said:
I’ve never met with Mnangagwa’s people to discuss cooperation or coalition. There was an intention expressed by Mnangagwa’s people for us to meet to discuss various issues, but that meeting never took place.
According to the same reports, Mugabe learned of Mnangagwa’s plan and is totally against it as he fears that Mnangwagwa “…will reverse the land reform by giving farms back to the whites.”
