Raila Odinga pulls a "Tsvangirai" ahead of Kenyan election rerun

The UK Guardian reports that Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga has pulled out of the presidential election rerun stating that election commission has not made the changes to avoid the “irregularities and illegalities” cited in the nullified August poll.

Odinga is a friend of Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai who also pulled out of the 2008 rerun. In June this year Tsvangirai met Odinga in his quest to build continental coalitions that guard against electoral malpractices. Odinga like Tsvangirai, is also the leader of the Kenya’s opposition coalition the National Super Alliance (NASA). Soon after NASA’s decision to withdraw from the election was announced, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) responded, tweeting the measures they had taken to improve the electoral process.

It remains to be seen if Tsvangirai who ran away to Botswana will pull an “Odinga” in the 2018 elections and remain resolute.
