SA admits Mnangagwa was in their country despite earlier claims they didn't know his whereabouts

African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Gwede Mantashe revealed that President-designate Emmerson Mnangagwa stayed in South Africa although he insisted that he was not hosted by the country or ANC.

Mantashe’s revelation comes after South Africa’s International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane said that her Government did not know the whereabouts of Mnangagwa. Said Nkoana-Mashabane:

We have no information about the whereabouts of the former Vice President of Zimbabwe.

Mnangagwa went into self-imposed exile after he was dismissed from Government on 6 November by former President Robert Mugabe and claims that he received death threats. There was speculation as to where Mnangagwa went with Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) leader Christopher Mutsvangwa claiming that Mnangagwa was in South Africa while other reports said that he had skipped to China where Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) Commander General Constantino Chiwenga had gone for a visit.
