Updated:Mnangagwa's Necktie Auctioned Off For $15 000 At CEO Africa Round Table

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s tie was auctioned off for $15 000 at the CEO Africa Round Table in Victoria Falls on Thursday (today). The money will be donated to charity and public hospitals which have been crippled by a strike by doctors. The tie was auctioned off by advertising and media personality Gary Thompson.

The tie was bought by Tafadzwa Musarara, chairman of the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) after he beat the penultimate bid of $10 000. Speaking after winning the bid, Musarara said,

I am excited and overwhelmed. I will not sell it, why should I?

Mnangagwa’s tie was later replaced with a “Stars and Stripes” tie of the United States flag.

The CEO Africa Round Table started in Victoria Falls on Wednesday and brings together chief executive officers from both private and public companies in order to come up with solutions to turn around the country’s economic fortunes.

The theme for the Round Table is “Zimbabwe is Open for Business: Agenda 2040.”
