Govt Asks NSSA To Donate $66 000 For Event, Includes $7 000 Performance Fee For Jah Prayzah

The Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare has asked the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) to donate $66 000 in order to host the National Commemorations of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The ministry said the request had been necessitated by an increase in the number of expected guests from 5 000 to 10 000. However, the amount required may not sit well with most pensioners who are receiving only $80 from the authority. $7 000 of the $66 000 was budgeted for musician Jah Prayzah, as he would provide the entertainment.

Part of a letter dated 21 March 2018, and addressed to former NSSA General Manager Elizabeth Chitsiga reads:

As you may be aware the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare is hosting the National Commemorations of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. His Excellency the President, Comrade Emmerson D. Mnangagwa is the Guest of Honour. Over 10 000 people are expected to attend the event.

The Ministry had initially budgeted for 5000 people. In light of the additional 5000 persons expected to attend the event, could NSSA assist in providing the following items:

1. T-Shirts:

  • Round T-Shirts: (3000×6.$ 18 000)
  • Golf T-Shirts: (2000×8416 000)
