Mugabe Plotting To Replace Mutinhiri With Mutamangira As NPF Leader

Former president Robert Mugabe is reported to be working to replace Brigadier General (retired) Ambrose Mutinhiri as the leader of the opposition National Patriotic Front (NPF). This follows reports that Mutinhiri has failed to assert his authority within the party, leading to doubts over his ability to challenge President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the upcoming elections.  Previous reports have also indicated that former first lady Grace Mugabe was actively trying to have Mutinhiri replaced saying that he incompetent to challenge Mnangagwa and MDC-T leader Nelson Chamisa.

According to the weekly publication, The Standard, Mugabe has been consulting with prominent lawyer Farai Mutangamira with a possible view of having him run for the presidency. Mutangamira is reported to have held several meetings with the NPF’s founding leaders and is also the party’s legal brains. Sources who spoke to The Standard said,

He (Mutinhiri) is a ghost president who’s never been seen or heard from. The biggest question in the NPF is; where is Mutinhiri? We only read about him and saw his pictures with [former] president Mugabe in the newspapers. He never attends meetings.
