Chiwenga, Mohadi's Political Careers Now At The Mercy Of Mnangagwa

According to political analysts, Vice Presidents, Kembo Mohadi and General (retired) Constantino Chiwenga’s political careers now depend on President Emmerson Mnangagwa. This comes after the Vice Presidents did not take part in the Zanu-PF party’s primary elections meaning that if they lose their positions as Vice Presidents they won’t have any political office. However, the analysts agreed that Mnangagwa cannot afford to fire the two as they were instrumental in his rise to power.

Political analyst Shakespeare Hamauswa said,

Constitutionally, it is possible to sack the VPs (vice presidents) but from a political perspective, it is difficult for ED (Mnangagwa). Chiwenga believes ED’s throne came as a gift from the military or KG6 (Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks). With the militarization of the party, it will not be possible to dismiss Chiwenga,

Harare lawyer Tonderai Bhatasara told the Daily News,

Basically, in terms of the Sixth Schedule part 4 paragraph 14, it means the president is not obliged to appoint two vice presidents. The president can lawfully appoint one vice president who serves at his or her pleasure. In this case (the case of Mnangagwa), the president can appoint one vice president and not more than two vice presidents
