Unfair To Blame Zanu-PF For Political Violence, It's Not Party Policy: Official

Zanu-PF central committee member and legislator for Mpopoma-Pelandaba constituency, Joseph Tshuma has said that it is unfair for the opposition and the media to blame the party for political violence. While acknowledging that political violence has been a component of past elections, Tshuma insisted that it was not Zanu-PF policy. Said Tshuma,

I don’t recall a day when in our Zanu PF meetings, the central committee for example, where we discuss issues such as unleashing violence on the opposition. Yes, election violence has been there, but it is certainly not a party policy. We don’t have a rule book on election violence.

…This is where I believe the media should come in to name and shame the instigators of violence, to name and shame those among us who engineer that violence so that they are prosecuted. I believe blanket blaming a party and not naming the accused is unfair and will not stop the circle of political violence during elections.
