ICC Agrees To Continue Funding  Zim Cricket "On Controlled Basis"

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has extended a lifeline to Zimbabwe Cricket after agreeing to continue funding the organisation in a controlled way which will allow it to pay off its debts. Zimbabwe was at a risk of being suspended unless it reduced or restructured its debt of USD 18 million. Zimbabwe’s funding will be more regulated so that the organisation can pay among other obligations,  its players their outstanding salaries and allowances which resulted in five senior players missing the ongoing T20I triangular series against Pakistan and Australia.

Speaking at the ICC’s annual conference in Dublin, Shashank Manohar, the ICC chairman, said

I am satisfied we have mapped out a way forward to enable Zimbabwe Cricket to get back on track. It will require significant change to their financial, managerial and cricketing operations, along with support from the ICC, but we saw the latent potential of cricket at the recent ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe and this gives us the opportunity to build on that.
