Eddie Cross the outgoing member of parliament for Bulawayo South has warned that the recent increments for soldiers, police and civil servants are likely to fuel inflation as they have not been budgeted for by the government. Speaking to Southern Eye, Cross says,
Given the present state of the fiscus, any adjustments to salaries at this juncture would have serious implications on the economy, as it would lead to inflation. Whatever the civil servants would get today, it would be eaten by inflation tomorrow.
The government recently increased the salaries of soldiers, police and the rest of the civil service by 22.5 percent, 20 percent and 17.5 percent respectively.
