Zesa Is Losing Three Transformers A Night To Vandals - Perm Sec

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Power Development, Partson Mbiriri has said that the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) is losing three transformers a night to vandals. He said that this was hampering the power company’s plans to extend the electricity grid as it was focusing on repairing the damaged. In a discussion at the Harare Agricultural Show on Tuesday, Mbiriri said,

We have lost seven kilometres of cables and we lose three transformers a night. Instead of extending the grid and addressing the 58 per cent who are connected, we are busy looking back to replace the cables that have been stolen and replace transformers which have been drained, transformers whose components have been stolen…ZETDC is in the process of replacing transformers but then these transformers are imported making the exercise very costly…We are currently losing 16 per cent of electricity during distribution.
