Senior MDC Alliance officials claimed on Sunday that some party provinces had already endorsed Nelson Chamisa’s candidacy for the presidency at the Congress set for May this year.
The officials, Tendai Biti, Morgen Komichi and party ” Commissar” Amos Chibaya were speaking following a consultative rally held in Chinhoyi on Sunday.
Party vice chairperson Tendai Biti had this to say:
Zanu PF is trying to influence the MDC congress in May, but we are not fools who can change the commander in the middle of a battle.
Party co-vice president Morgen Komichi said that Mashonaland province said that the party could not change leadership now. He said:
The structures said it was illogical to change leadership mid-stream, which means they were endorsing president Chamisa’s leadership.
Even in Mashonaland Central, the structures reiterated the same thing on Saturday. There was a message that we cannot change leadership now.
