We Need To Treat Opposition With Dignity & Respect They Deserve: Emmerson Mnangagwa

Speaking on Zimbabwe’s upcoming Independence celebrations, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said that the country’s opposition parties are invited the official independence celebrations. He said this during an Independence special interview with the ZBC yesterday. Mnangagwa said that there’s a need to treat the opposition with “dignity and the respect they deserve” as they are part of the institutions of the country.

Said Mnangagwa:

These are Zimbabweans, they are part of the machinery of Government, they are part of the machine, they are in Parliament, they are part of the institutions of the country, they are most welcome and we will give them the dignity and the respect they deserve.

That is that but those who decide not come we will not force them to do what they do not want to do. This is the duty of democracy.”

Mnangagwa has been criticised for not including the country’s main opposition party, MDC in its ongoing “dialogue” with the country’s political leaders. The opposition party has refused to be part of dialogue if certain conditions are not met.
