Chamisa Defends Edwin Tsvangirai

Oppositin leader Nelson Chamisa was forced to defend the eldest child of the late former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai after he was booed off stage. Edwin Tsvangirai had appreciated the government for providing logistical support towards the event. Edwin said:

I want to thank the government, I want to thank the president…

The unyielding crowd forced him to take a break. He would plead several times with the crowd to “please hear me out”, before abandoning his speech entirely.

When Chamisa came to the podium, he said that credit was supposed to be given where it was due. He said:

I compete with Mnangagwa, but if he does good it must be acknowledged. Police officers are not Zanu PF, or MDC, they’re there to serve Zimbabweans. Let’s acknowledge what’s good, and condemn what’s bad.

The memorial was attended by several diplomats, including the Head of Delegation of the European Union to Zimbabwe Timo Olkkonen and Angolan Ambassador Pedro Hendrik Vaal Neto.
