Macauley Bonne Declares He's Going To AFCON With The Warriors

England-based Warriors striker Macauley Bonne has declared he is travelling with the team to the 2019 Afcon despite being left out of the provisional squad announced on Tuesday.

Bonne was overlooked for the 34-man provisional squad for the COSAFA and AFCON tournaments announced on Tuesday due to delays in getting him a local passport as he holds British citizenship.

There have been concerns that Bonne may not get a Zimbabwean passport as new migration laws require him to renounce his British citizenship first.

Writing on his Twitter handle after the preliminary squad was announced, the Leyton Orient marksman said:

To counter the press reports, I have completed all the necessary documents to get my Zimbabwe passport. I will be travelling to AFCON 2019 this summer, representing my country.

On Tuesday, Warriors team manager Wellington Mpandare also hinted on Bonne’s late inclusion in the squad on condition the process is finished before the tournament.

Meanwhile, Bonne has featured for the national team before, in two friendly matches in 2017, and efforts to bring him for the 2019 Afcon qualifiers didn’t come to fruition due to the passport issues.
