The South African ambassador to Zimbabwe M.N Mbete speaks that the launch of the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) in Harare. He recommended that an external facilitator of the dialogue be appointed and said that South Africa and the region are ready to recommend names.

Said Mbete:

As a SADC region, we are grateful for this strategic and timely project. We think the national dialogue must be inclusive and participatory and take into account the views of all Zimbabweans. The success of the national dialogue will have far-reaching implications for the SADC region and beyond.

Whether South Africa likes it or not, we are part of the SADC region. Whether Zimbabwe likes it or not it is part of the SADC Region. And both our countries are part of the global village. If necessary, for credibility, the leadership of Zimbabwe wishes to consider a facilitator from outside Zimbabwe, we as a region will be ready to propose names from the African continent.

At this point, we’d like to appeal to the political formations, to the political leaders who are not yet part of the national dialogue, to join the national dialogue.

We salute the people of Zimbabwe as you begin this epocj-making journey, which we think will be a game changer.

May Gog bless Zimbabwe.

MDC president Nelson Chamisa, who leads the largest opposition in Zimbabwe has so far refused to participate in the dialogue. Chamisa and the MDC have put conditions contesting Mnangagwa’s legitimacy as winner of the July 2018 elections.

The POLAD was launched Friday, 17 May 2019.
