ZANU PF Nullifies Party's Bulawayo Provincial Elections

The ruling ZANU PF party has nullified the results of provincial elections held in Bulawayo last week, saying that the calibre of officials elected is below the expected standard.

As a result, dates shall be announced for the holding of fresh elections for Bulawayo and also Harare province.

Speaking to State media on Monday over the restructuring exercises being carried out in the two provinces, the party’s Secretary for Administration, Obert Mpofu said:

We’ve advised the restructuring teams in both Bulawayo and Harare Metropolitan provinces to restrict their restructuring exercise from the cell up to district level only.

The teams should work independently without due influence from the local leadership.

The teams should prepare comprehensive reports on the process from the beginning up to district restructuring which will be presented to the Politburo.

The report should contain all the facts, figures and details about the process. Dates for the elections will be set thereafter.

Mpofu added that the party’s national leadership is satisfied with the ongoing restructuring exercise.

He further revealed that Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi will oversee structures in Harare and Bulawayo respectively.
