“We're Noting Shenanigans, Manipulation Of Innocent People To Corner The Regime" - Churches Lash At Chamisa

The Churches and Civic Society Forum (CSCJF) has warned MDC leader Nelson Chamisa to desist from inciting violence. The forum claims that Chamisa and other civil society groups are sacrificing the general populace for their selfish interests by calling for demonstrations.

The warning follows threats by both the MDC and civil society groups to protest against the government over the unrelenting economic and political crises.

Speaking during a media briefing in Harare, Reverend Angliston Sibanda said:

We are noting shenanigans that include the manipulation of some innocent and poor young people, young women , church leaders through the use of money to mobilize citizens into the so-called civic action that will be used to corner the regime and put it into a dilemma and force the military to spill blood and trigger international outcry, tarnish the image of the country as well as to justify military intervention by foreign forces off for the benefit of greedy civic and political.

The churches also warned the Zanu-PF party against taking counter measures to the alleged planned demonstrations. Recently, ZANU PF youth league secretary general, Pupurai Togarepi and his deputy, Lewis Mathuthu threatened to take action if Chamisa would proceed with the proposed demonstrations. Their remarks echoe those of party spokesperson Simona Khaya Moyo.

The nation is at cross roads as the political and economic crises continue unabated.

Meanwhile, the USA and Amnesty International have also warned the government against harassing civil society leaders and opposition party members.
