Teacher shortage in Matabeleland North province is said be not as severe as was initially reported.
Education officials say that 300 teachers were recently deployed in the province to alleviate the shortage of educators.
Matabeleland North Provincial Education Director, Mr Jabulani Aggry Mpofu revealed that even though 300 teachers have been employed, ECD and A Level classes still need attention. He said:
The situation is not very bad in his area as 300 more teachers had been recently engaged. However, the infants and Advance Level categories need more attention.
Mpofu said that the new curriculum has exacerbated the challenge as more specialised teachers are needed.
Advanced Level subjects such as Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology have a shortage of teachers. The same applies to practical subjects such as Agriculture and Computer Science.
