Zimbabwean Warriors Seek 1st Win Against Nigerian Super Eagles

Zimbabwean Warriors seek their first win against the Nigerian Super Eagles whom they play today in a pre-2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) friendly in Nigeria, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.

Zimbabwe is coming from the COSAFA cup where it just won one match against Comoros, drew two against Zambia and Lesotho. Meanwhile, Nigeria which has won all four of their last encounters against Zimbabwe, conceding just one goal and scoring 11 goals seek to enlarge the gap to consecutive wins. Nigeria recently won 1-0 against Egypt.

Zimbabwe has travelled with almost the entire team that was selected for the AFCON finals. Four players, however, are going to follow since they were left in South Africa where they were supposed toplay in the COSAFA 3rd place play offs.

The Nigerian coach, Gernot Rohr has said that he would like to rotate players so as to assess them all ahead of the AFCON final. He said:

I want to see a lot of players who are not playing so much, give them the opportunity to play against Zimbabwe.

It can be for some defenders like Balogun, he is fit but he didn’t play so much, so we want to see him playing on Saturday and also some players like Kelechi (Iheanacho).
