Over 500 MDC Officials Stampede For 40 Party Positions

Hundreds of MDC officials have reportedly sent in CVs to be considered for the party’s national executive and standing committees.

Reports indicate that technocrats, who in the past have been reluctant to take up positions in the party, are now stampeding for 40 available posts.

An official who spoke to Newsday on condition of anonymity had this to say:

The CVs were received from bankers, engineers and doctors who, in the past, have not been willing to take up positions within party structures. They want to be part of the team led by Chamisa.

MDC secretary-general Chalton Hwende told the publication that a special national council meeting will be held this Wednesday. He said:

CVs that had come through the office of the SG by the time we closed is 569. They have been vetted and are now currently in the office of the president.

On Wednesday, we are going to have a special national council meeting, which will sit as a Congress to complete the business of Congress as per resolutions passed by Congress.

We did not complete the business of congress and it will be concluded on that day.

MDC president Nelson Chamisa has the prerogative of appointing party spokesperson, organising secretary, secretary for elections and international relations secretary.

Several party bigwigs are eyeing posts in the two bodies, that is, the national executive and national standing committee.

Among them are Morgen Komichi, Amos Chibaya, Happymore Chidziva, Lillian Timveos, Jacob Mafume, Luke Tambarinyoka, Murisi Zwizwai, Douglas Mwonzora and Settlement Chikwinya.
