ZANU-PF youths on Thursday said that they would expose corrupt party bigwigs on Monday next week. The youths ordered corrupt party members to shun their shady dealings.
Party deputy secretary for youth affairs, Lewis Matutu, accused party officials of choking president Mnangagwa’s efforts to revive the economy. Speaking at a media briefing at the Zanu PF headquarters, Matutu said:
If they are corrupt, we will name them come next week.
…Monday you will see names being thrown out.
Besides doing that, we are also going to make sure that we request the leadership to arrest the corrupt people. That we will definitely do.
The ultimatum came as there are reports that some party officials are involved in black market foreign currency trading. Matutu warned:
We cannot have a situation whereby the President each day and each night saying that people must desist from corruption and focus on building the country. That’s as far as he can go.
He is the President, he loves everyone, the evil and those that are good, but he is willing to make sure that those that are bad are reformed and repent from their deeds.
Political analyst Eldred Masunungure, a political science lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe argues that there is only rhetoric on fighting corruption which is not backed by action. This was reiterated by a ZANU-PF member, Never Maswerasei who claimed that the leaders were lying that they were fighting corruption.
Zimbabwe is ranked amongst the most corrupt countries in the world.
