WATCH: "Zim Not On SADC Agenda", SADC Says It Hasn't Received Communication From MDC

Southern African Development Committee Executive Secretary H.E. Dr Stergomena Lawrence has said that Zimbabwe will not be on the regional grouping’s agenda.

This comes as the opposition MDC led by advocate Nelson Chamisa has been pushing to have Zimbabwean political and economic crises discussed at the forthcoming SADC meeting to be held in August in Tanzania.

Dr Lawrence said that SADC has procedures that are followed and the SADC was yet to receive an application from the MDC.

She was paying a courtesy visit on president Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday at the State House to brief him on the forthcoming SADC meeting to be held in Tanzania in August this year.

Her excellence also revealed that Mnangagwa was the incoming SADC chairperson of the Organ on Peace and Security. The post, as she said, means that Mnangagwa will be guiding the region in as far as politics, peace and security issues are concerned.

The organ was formed to ensure that there is the maintenance of peace, security and rule of law in the region.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe has been accused by Western communities and opposition parties of violating human rights. Resultantly, the USA, the European Union and the Uk imposed sanctions on the Southern African country.

Recently, civil society organisations, international human rights organisations and Western states have been calling on the government to stop harassing members of the public who are being accused of planning to overthrow a constitutionally elected government.
