The President of the opposition MDC, advocate Nelson Chamisa has said that the citizens will not leave the streets until the government has addressed the socio-economic issues bedevilling the country.
He was speaking during a press conference in Harare on Friday afternoon after the party prematurely called off the demonstrations in the capital following police brutality on protesters.
Chamisa said that Zimbabweans were being motivated to demonstrate by their empty stomachs, empty fuel stations, empty pockets and the soaring inflation.
He said that the called off demonstrations were just a shadow of confrontational action the MDC intends to implement in an endeavour to force the government to address teething issues in the country. He said:
Yes, you are going to see more of the action, peaceful action in other cities and in Harare. In fact, this is not the end, it is a beginning, what you are seeing is just a teaser, an introduction, we are going to be in the street until the State responds to the streets because hunger, poverty is on the streets so we want to activate the streets until the resolution is achieved. We have multiple million steps to take, we are clear in terms of the next course of action we are going to take, we will continue to mobilise.
Chamisa also said that police brutality has forced the party to think of introducing other strategies including stay-aways which will shut down the country.
