"Who Ordered Soldiers To Shoot Civilians On August 1, 2018?" - A. MAGAYA

The leader of the Zimbabwe Divine Destiny, Ancelimo Magaya has said that fighting corruption alone was not enough to transform the country into a desired society.

He said that it was necessary to resolve all past killings and violence so as to establish everlasting peace.

Speaking during a churches convergence on peace meeting convened under the Zimbabwe Council of Churches in Gweru on Tuesday, Magaya said that individuals implicated in past killings should be held accountable. He said:

Although we have seen attempts by authorities to address the issue of corruption with the recent arrest of the likes of Priscah Mupfumira (former Tourism minister), there are, however, more horrendous and horrific issues underneath that need to be unearthed. We cannot have people who killed continuing to roam the streets without being arrested.”

In the run-up to the 2008 elections, there were people who were maimed, raped and killed, yet the murderers are still roaming the streets. Who ordered the soldiers to shoot at 45 degrees in the August 1 (2018) killings? Those that killed on August 1 are yet to be arrested.

Since the aftermath of independence, Zimbabwe has reported a number of deaths which analysts say were sanctioned by the state.

Analysts argue that the reluctance by the state to address the atrocities including the Matebeleland massacres of the 1980s, 2008 pre-election violence, August 1, 2018, shootings and January violence is confirmation that government officials are deeply involved in the matter.
