A security guard robbed a ZB Bank branch in Kadoma that he was guarding, getting away with  US $134,000.
The robbery took place on Saturday 14 September in the afternoon as the bank’s employees counted cash in preparation of closing for the day.
The guard, Samson Mahohoma, who was guarding the bank entered the room where employees were counting the cash and order them to hand it over. He also took their mobile phones and keys, and locked everyone in before fleeing with the cash.
Said a brief by ZRP Sanyati :

On 14 September 2024 around 1330 hrs, complainant, who is the Branch Manager at ZB Bank Sanyati closed the bank and instructed all the workers to enter into a cash room in order to count money.
While they were inside, the accused person who is a security guard at the bank entered the room armed with his rifle and ordered everyone to lie down. Accused person then placed all the money in a sack and ordered all workers to surrender their cellphones and keys. He then left the room and locked the doors and disappeared with the loot.
The total value stolen is US$134 000 and R33 800 and nothing was recovered.

There has been a spat of high value robberies in Zimbabwe in recent years, most of them planned by security company insiders.
Recently, a Fawcett Security guard worked with a team to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/09/05/fawcetts-security-robbed-of-over-us111000-and-r1-28-million/">rob the company of $200,000</a> it was keeping safe on behalf of clients. The robberies were <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/09/13/insider-job-as-chipinge-fawcett-200k-robbers-arrested/">arrested just a week later</a>.
In December 2022, a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2022/12/02/zb-bank-lone-armed-robber-new-details-emerge/">robber targeted and got away with $12,000</a> at a ZB Bank branch in Victoria Falls after pretending to apply for a loan as the bank was about to close
In January 2021, US$2.7 millions was stolen from a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2021/01/07/the-armed-robbers-where-given-a-lift-by-the-people-ferrying-the-cash-zrp-on-the-us2-5-million-heist/">ZB bank crew which was transporting cash from Harare to Chinhoyi</a>.

A guard stole $134,000 from a bank in Kadoma while workers were counting money. He took their phones and keys, then locked them in the room before running away. Other robberies have happened in Zimbabwe, some planned by security company workers. A guard and others stole $200,000 from one company, but were caught later. In another case, a robber took $12,000 from a bank in Victoria Falls. A crew transporting money also lost $2.7 million in a robbery. Security is important to prevent such crimes.

Security Guard Robs Bank Of $134,000

A <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/09/05/fawcetts-security-robbed-of-over-us111000-and-r1-28-million/">$200,000 robbery in Chipinge</a> at security services company Fawcett earlier this month, has turned out to be an insider job. A Fawcett employee is reported to have provided key information about the company’s operations to the robbers.
The robbers then attacked the Fawcett premises in Chipinge and took US$111,000 and R1,281,320.
The robbers have since been arrested.
A day after the robbery the police had <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/09/06/police-suspect-inside-job-in-us114000-robbery-at-fawcett-security/">already indicated they suspect an insider job</a>. The Fawcett insider is Norest Masikira aged 43.
Masikira was arrested and eventually revealed the identities of 2 accomplices: Takesure Simango aged 40, Givemore Makoto also aged 40. The two revealed another 2: Tendai Mupatsi aged 25, and his brother Lovejoy Mupatsi aged 38, both from a place called Medium Density in Chipinge.
Of the $110,000 and R1.2, only US $850 and R98k was recovered.

A person who worked at Fawcett in Chipinge helped robbers steal $200k. The robbers took $111k and R1.3 million. The person who helped was caught and told the police about his 2 friends who also took part. Only a small amount of the stolen money was recovered.

Insider Job As Chipinge Fawcett $200k Robbers Arrested

Albert Nyambara, a teacher from Marondera, has been summoned to appear before a magistrate after being arrested for attempting to convert his salary, paid in local currency (ZiG), into United States dollars.
Like other state employees, teachers receive part of their salary in US dollars and the remainder in ZiG. The US dollar is the predominant currency in Zimbabwe, accounting for over 70% of transactions.
Many government departments and businesses do not accept ZiG, forcing citizens to rely on unlicensed foreign currency dealers to convert their local currency earnings into USD.
According to the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), Nyambara is scheduled to appear at the Marondera Magistrates’ Court on September 23, 2024. ARTUZ said:

Zimbabwe adopted a multi-currency regime which will remain in place up to 2030. This teacher is being punished for choosing one currency ahead of the other in this same basket of currencies.
At the beginning of August 2024, the RBZ announced that USD accounted for 70% of all transactions.
The government doesn’t accept ZiG for passports neither do fuel traders. The bosses do not accept USD, but the working people have ZiG pushed down their throats.
The system punishes the poor and creates perfect opportunities for politically connected capital to flourish.
It is unacceptable and this has to stop. The working people should find each other and demand freedom now.

Nyambara, a school teacher at Waterloo Primary School in Macheke was arrested on 10 May 2024 and charged with illegal trade in foreign currency after he approached undercover police officers attempting to exchange his ZiG bank balance for US dollars.
According to a police memo, Albert Nyambara (37) unknowingly approached police detectives who were on surveillance for money traders outside N Richards Supermarket in Marondera.
Nyambara allegedly offered detectives from CID Commercial Crime Division Northern Regions his CABS card to purchase some groceries in exchange for US dollars. Reads the memo in part:

Accused person approaching the detectives who were pushing a trolley loaded with various groceries which include tiggle naks assorted 50X24 grams, Willards things 8X150 grams, baby soft tissues rolls white 2 ply 1X18, 2 Quire A4 papyrus FM Counter book X 1, Top Chef premium white rice 2X5 KG, Mazoe Orange Crush 6X2 Litres, Fizzi Cream-Soda 6X2 litres.
On approaching detectives, the accused person indicated that he had some ZiG in CABS Bank account and intended to swipe in exchange for US dollars at an offered rate of ZiG 14.11 per US $1-00 and in addition, he offered US$5 as a token of appreciation.
Accused person then gave detectives his CABS Bank card serial number 588925071472080 and he supplied the pin number as 2011.
Accused person then accompanied detectives to the till where they swiped for the groceries and he proceed outside the shop.
Accused person waited outside the shop and was given a receipt of the groceries worth ZiG999.07. Upon receiving the receipt, accused person calculated the equivalent in US dollars and he said amounted to US$70,80.
Detectives then gave the trap money to the accused person and subsequently arrested [him].

Nyambara initially appeared before a Marondera magistrate on 11 May and was released on a summons.
He was represented by lawyers from Makwanya Godfrey of Sakala Associates.

A teacher named Albert Nyambara in Zimbabwe got in trouble for trying to change his local currency (ZiG) salary to US dollars. In Zimbabwe, people can use US dollars for most transactions. Nyambara was arrested for trying to exchange money with undercover police officers who were watching for illegal currency traders. He offered his bank card and some groceries in exchange for US dollars. He was caught when he tried to calculate the equivalent of his ZiG purchase in US dollars. Nyambara is now scheduled to go to court for this incident.

Teacher Arrested For Converting ZiG Salary To USD Set For Court Appearance

High Court Judge Justice Benjamin Chikowero granted opposition politician Prince Dubeko Sibanda bail set at US$300 on Friday, September 6.
Sibanda, a former MDC Alliance and later CCC MP for Binga North, had been in pre-trial detention for three weeks following his arrest in Beitbridge in mid-August 2024.
He was apprehended at the Beitbridge Border Post on Saturday, August 17, and subsequently transferred to Harare Central Police Station.
After appearing before the Harare Magistrate’s Court, Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa denied him bail.
Sibanda faces charges of inciting public violence, stemming from allegations that he posted messages on social media encouraging CCC party members to engage in violent actions, including barricading roads, burning shops and tyres, and shutting down Harare. He allegedly posted on X:

Unless the SADC creates a platform where the heads of State will engage Zimbabweans on the SEOM [SADC Electoral Observer Mission] report and other issues, we will create a platform to meet with them on the streets of Harare.

In his ruling, Justice Chikowero said Magistrate Gofa had misdirected herself by denying Sibanda bail.
As part of his bail conditions, Sibanda was ordered to deposit US$300 (or its equivalent in ZiG), not to interfere with state witnesses, and to reside at his place of residence.
He was represented by Alec Muchadehama from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).

Prince Dubeko Sibanda, an opposition politician, was granted bail at US$300 by a judge. He had been in jail for three weeks for inciting public violence. Sibanda was arrested in Beitbridge and later moved to Harare. The judge said the magistrate made a mistake by not granting bail earlier. Sibanda's bail conditions include not interfering with witnesses and staying at home. His lawyer is from Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

Police suspect that five armed robbers who targeted the Fawcett Security Company premises in Chipinge on Wednesday morning, stealing US$114,411 and R1,281,320, received inside information from a mole within the company.
According to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/moles-hand-in-us114k-r12m-heist-exposed/">The Herald</a>, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said intelligence gathered indicates the suspects collaborated with an insider who provided detailed knowledge of Fawcett’s operations.
Comm. Nyathi assured the public that the police would thoroughly investigate and bring all those involved to justice.
The incident occurred around 3 AM on September 4, when two Fawcett Security officers, George Nhamo Sithole (59) and driver Dzime Sithole (46), were conducting routine patrols in a blue Fawcett Isuzu vehicle parked at the Farm and City shop in Chipinge.
Suddenly, two masked men armed with pistols emerged from behind the van and ordered the officers to exit.
The suspects forced the guards to remove their jackets and hats, then demanded the car keys from the driver.
Complying with orders, the guards were then restrained with their hands tied behind their backs and shoved into the vehicle’s cash compartment, which was subsequently locked.
Three additional gang members arrived shortly after and joined the initial two, driving to the Fawcett Security Company premises in Gaza Township.
En route, the gang stopped to load various items into the vehicle before continuing to the Fawcett offices. 
Upon arrival, they commanded the on-duty security officer, Mauka Chigonese (49), to unlock the gate. After he complied, Chigonese was assaulted and had his hands bound with electrical cables.
The robbers then disarmed another guard, Taurai Tarangwa (48), tying his hands with his shoelaces and forcing him to summon Gordon Gurudza (49), who was monitoring the alarm system, to open the office door.
Once inside, Gurudza was ordered to lie face down with his hands tied behind him using electric cables.
The gang proceeded to damage the alarm control board, exterior lights, and surveillance equipment, rendering them ineffective.
They then vandalised the vault with a grinder, stealing cash from six cash boxes and placing the money in a sack that previously contained cow feed.
The suspects drove off to Moiplass Estate with the security guards still in the vehicle, abandoning the truck against a tree to prevent their escape.
Sithole managed to contact Fawcett brand manager Peter Kabaira, who then alerted ZRP Chipinge Urban, prompting a swift police response.
Upon arrival, officers recovered an empty revolver near the front of the offices, a loaded shotgun abandoned along the perimeter fence, two used grinding discs and another empty revolver on the bonnet of the Isuzu truck.
They also found a pair of pliers, two screwdrivers, a shifting spanner, a bulletproof jacket, two Fawcett jackets, and an empty bottle of pepper spray.
Fortunately, none of the five Fawcett staff members were harmed or had their personal belongings stolen.

Five robbers stole a lot of money from a security company with help from someone inside the company. They tied up the security guards and took the money from the company. The police are investigating and promise to catch the robbers. The robbers damaged some things and left behind evidence. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the robbery. The police found some tools and weapons left by the robbers. The investigation is ongoing to catch all the people involved in the robbery.

Police Suspect Inside Job In US$114,000 Robbery At Fawcett Security

A 33-year-old gold panner, Tafadzwa Nkonde, has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Chinhoyi and forcing her to drink poison after she rejected his sexual advances.
Nkonde appeared before the Chinhoyi Magistrates Court on Thursday, facing murder charges under Section 47 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident occurred on August 30, 2024, when Nkonde approached the now-deceased Nokuthula Mazivisa as she was walking to her garden in the Dandadale area of Chinhoyi. He allegedly offered her US$5.00 for sexual services. Said the NPA:

The now-deceased refused to entertain the accused person, which did not go down well with him. He grabbed the now deceased’s neck from behind and dragged her into the bushes where he raped her once.
After raping the now-deceased, he took a bottle of pesticide that was in the complainant’s handbag and shoved the contents down her throat. He disappeared into a nearby bush.
Passersby heard the now-deceased groaning and went to investigate. The accused person reappeared on the scene and was positively identified by the now-deceased who narrated her ordeal to the witnesses.
The now deceased was rushed to hospital where she died upon admission.

The Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court remanded Nkonde in custody to the 18th of September 2024.

A man named Tafadzwa Nkonde raped a woman and made her drink poison in Chinhoyi. He was arrested and faces murder charges for the incident. The woman, Nokuthula Mazivisa, refused his offer for sex and he attacked her. He dragged her into the bushes, raped her, and forced her to drink pesticide. The woman groaned, and people found her. She died in the hospital. Nkonde was identified by the woman before she died. He is in jail until September for his crime.

Ezekiel Chiradza, a 35-year-old security guard from Beitbridge, was arrested earlier this week and charged with insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa. He has since been granted bail.
Chiradza allegedly recorded a video in which he sings, “Mnangagwa has destroyed the country,” while expressing support for former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa. This video was shared in a WhatsApp group.
On Thursday, September 5, Chiradza was granted bail of US$100 by Beitbridge Magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba, according to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).
The magistrate imposed conditions, including a prohibition against interfering with state witnesses and investigations, and required Chiradza to continue residing at his registered address until the conclusion of his case.
Chiradza was represented by Patrick Tererai from the ZLHR. He faces charges under section 33(2)(a)(ii) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, which pertains to undermining the authority of or insulting the President.

A security guard named Ezekiel Chiradza was arrested for singing a song against the President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa. He was granted bail of US$100 but has restrictions to follow. Chiradza expressed support for another leader in a video that was shared in a WhatsApp group. His case is still ongoing and he is being represented by a lawyer. The charges against him are related to insulting the President.

Security Guard Granted US$100 Bail After Singing Against Mnangagwa

A 28-year-old man from Kadoma, Edward Chitivha, was brought before the Kadoma Magistrates’ Court on charges of bestiality.
Chitivha, who resides in Tolrose Compound, is accused of sexually assaulting a goat owned by Isheunesu Shangudze, a 40-year-old resident of plot 9 Blagdon Farm, Eiffel Flats.
On the 12th of the month, Shangudze penned his five goats for the night. During the night, Chitivha allegedly entered the goat pen, removed his clothes, and placed them on the ground.
He then tied the legs of a white she-goat to a pole and proceeded to violate the animal.
Shangudze, who was asleep in his house, was awakened by the goat’s cries and went to investigate. 
Upon hearing Shangudze approaching, Chitivha fled the scene, leaving his clothes behind.
A police report was filed, leading to Chitivha’s arrest. He has been remanded in custody to the 17th of September 2024.
In Zimbabwe, bestiality is addressed under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].
Specifically, Section 74 of the Act criminalises bestiality, defining it as any sexual act between a human and an animal. It reads:

Any person who knowingly commits any sexual act with an animal or bird shall be guilty of bestiality and 
liable to a fine up to or exceeding level fourteen or imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year or 
both.

A 28-year-old man named Edward Chitivha from Kadoma was arrested for raping a goat. The goat belonged to Isheunesu Shangudze, who heard the goat's cries and caught Chitivha in the act. Chitivha ran away but left his clothes behind. The police caught him and he will be in jail until September 17, 2024. In Zimbabwe, bestiality is illegal under the Criminal Law Act. This means it is a crime for humans to have any sexual contact with animals, like what Chitivha did with the goat.

Kadoma Man (28) Arrested For Raping A Goat

One of the armed robbers who was part of a gang that pounced on passengers aboard a Blue Circle bus on July 18, 2024, has been sentenced to 84 years in prison.
The four armed robbers, identified in court as Ashton Siziva (26), Talent Mlaudzi (20), Saul Dadirai (23), and Pheneas Shumba (25), appeared before the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court in connection with the robbery of a Blue Circle bus that occurred on July 18, 2024.
It is the State’s case that on July 17, 2024, the accused, in collaboration with an accomplice named Elphase Mugudubudze, who is currently at large, travelled from Beitbridge to Harare. They left Mugudubudze at the Vilivili bus stop.
While in Harare, the accused boarded a Blue Circle bus at Mbudzi bus terminus for their return trip to Beitbridge.
On July 18, 2024, around 4:00 AM, the fourth accused, Pheneas Shumba, approached the bus conductor and requested to disembark at the Vilivili bus stop.
When the bus stopped, Mugudubudze entered the vehicle armed with a C75 9mm pistol, which he used to threaten the driver. Simultaneously, the other accused brandished okapi knives and threatened the passengers.
The robbers ordered the driver to take the bus to a secluded area, where they turned off the engine and lights.
They then demanded that the passengers surrender their belongings. After committing the crime, the suspects fled the scene.
The incident was reported to the police, and subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the four suspects.
During the court proceedings, Siziva, the first accused, pleaded guilty to 37 counts of robbery. He received a sentence of 12 years for each of the first six counts, followed by an additional 12 years for counts seven through thirty-seven.
The sentences for counts seven to thirty-seven will run concurrently, resulting in an effective sentence of 84 years.
Co-accused Mlaudzi, Dadirai, and Shumba are scheduled to return to court on September 11 for the continuation of their trial.

A man who robbed a bus full of people got 84 years in jail. The man named Ashton Siziva was part of a group of four robbers. They threatened people with guns and knives. They took the bus to a quiet place and stole things from the passengers. Ashton pleaded guilty to 37 robberies and got 84 years in jail. The other robbers will go back to court in September. The police caught them after the robbery.

Blue Circle Bus Armed Robber Sentenced To 84 Years In Jail

Two South African nationals and two Zimbabweans were arraigned before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, facing charges of motor vehicle theft.
The accused include John Leseja Mkonto (37) from Johannesburg, Sibusiso Mpofu (44) from Nkulumane, Bulawayo, Nwabi Maghawe (39) from Nketa 7, Bulawayo, Raymond Tshabalala (29) from Johannesburg, and Pholani Nhliziyo (38) from Ndiweni Village, Chief Ndiweni, Bulawayo.
They were arrested on September 2 at a police roadblock in Featherstone after allegedly smuggling the vehicle from South Africa.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the vehicle in question—a white Toyota Land Cruiser—was stolen in Pretoria, South Africa, on August 28, 2024. Said the NPA:

On the 28th of August 2024, the accused persons stole a white Toyota Land Cruiser in Pretoria, South Africa.
In an attempt to conceal the true identity of the motor vehicle, the accused persons fraudulently manufactured a fake South African Registration book as well as a fake Temporary Import Permit in the name of the first accused person.
On the 2nd of September 2024, the accused persons smuggled the motor vehicle into Zimbabwe intending to go to Harare.
They were intercepted by police officers manning a road block at Featherstone. The first accused person who was the driver, upon request by the police officers, produced the fake documents.
Police Officers discovered that the purported motor vehicle documents did not tally with the particulars on the motor vehicle.
A fake registration number was affixed to the motor vehicle. The motor vehicle registration book was bearing a registration number belonging to a Toyota Hilux.
The accused persons were arrested and the motor vehicle was seized. Investiagtions revealed that the motor vehicle was reported stolen in South Africa on 28 August 2024.
The accused persons were remanded in custody to the 16th of September 2024.

Two South Africans and two Zimbabweans were caught smuggling a stolen car from South Africa into Zimbabwe. The car was stolen in Pretoria. The group made fake documents to hide the theft but got caught at a roadblock. The police noticed the documents were fake and the car had a different registration number. The thieves were arrested and the car was taken. They will be in jail until September 16. Don't steal cars, it's wrong!

2 South Africans And 2 Zimbabweans Arrested For Smuggling Stolen Vehicle

A Fawcetts Security facility in Chipinge was robbed of US$111,000 and R1.28 million by at least five suspects around 3 AM on Wednesday.
According to an internal police memo, the robbers first targeted two Fawcetts Security guards who were on rapid response duties and had parked their branded Isuzu KB250 in the town centre. Reads the memo:

The armed robbers first targeted two Fawcett Security guards that were on rapid response duty and had parked their branded Isuzu KB250 in the town centre.
Two of the armed robbers that were wearing balaclavas approached the two security guards on either side of the car, and ordered them to open the car doors at gun point.
The guards were then force marched to the back of the van, where they were shoved into the cash compartment with their hands tied to their back with cables.

Police said the two robbers drove the van to an unknown location where more men, at least three, jumped into the van armed with an assortment of tools including grinders, hammers, torches and iron bars.
The robbers, according to police, forced the Fawcetts guards to hand over their jackets and caps.
Two robbers occupying the front seat then dressed themselves as Fawcetts guards.
The gang drove to the Fawcetts depot at 1530 Gaza O Light Industry, where some local businesses keep their money overnight before banking. Reads the memo:

Upon arrival at the office main gate, the accused persons managed to deceive a guard who was manning the entrance to open for them.
The accused persons entered the yard and when the guard was closing the gate, two of the robbers jumped from the motor vehicle and manhandled him and force marched him towards the offices with both of his hands tied with cable ties from the back.

The Fawcetts guard was disarmed of his Rossi revolver, while a second guard conducting perimeter checks was stripped of his shotgun.
According to the police, the robbers proceeded to damage all exterior security lights, break the manager’s office window, and disconnect the power supply to the alarm system. They also cut the output cable to the siren.
Inside the control room, the robbers quickly overpowered another guard monitoring the CCTV and disarmed him of his revolver.
With all guards accounted for, the robbers used a grinder to open a Chubb door leading to the vault, which contained six cash boxes.
They took turns breaking the padlocks on each of the metal cash boxes and emptied them of cash, loading the loot into the Fawcetts vehicle. Police said:

The robbers then bundled all the Fawcetts guards into the cash compartment of the van and drove off to a bushy area at Mooilsplas Farm, 6km north of Chipinge, where they dumped the guards and the motor vehicle.

One of the guards eventually managed to free himself and called for help.
Police later recovered the Isuzu keys, which had been discarded along with the Fawcetts uniforms, 54 km from Chipinge on the road to Birchenough.
The three firearms taken from the guards were discovered abandoned in the yard of the Fawcetts establishment.
In total, the robbers stole cash amounting to US$111,411 and R1,281,320.

A security guard based in Beitbridge has been arrested and charged with insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
He allegedly criticised the President for mismanaging the economy and introducing the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency.
According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Ezekiel Chiradza, 35, was taken into custody on September 2.
Chiradza reportedly recorded a video in which he condemned Mnangagwa and voiced support for former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa, sharing it in a WhatsApp group. The ZLHR said:

There is no respite in targeting citizens for perceived dissent and in Beitbridge, a 35-year-old security guard has been arrested and charged for allegedly insulting President Mnangagwa, whom he accused of economic mismanagement and also for disapproving use of ZiG currency.
Ezekiel Chiradza, who works as a security guard at Beitbridge Town Council, was arrested by ZRP officers on 2 September and was charged with undermining the authority of or insulting the President as defined in section 33(2)(a)(ii) of Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act.
Chiradza reportedly recorded a video and published it on a WhatsApp group called Zim Politics, while singing and uttering some words condemning President Mnangagwa and praising Nelson Chamisa, his rival in last year’s general elections.
Chiradza is represented by Patrick Tererai of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

Security Guard's Video Critique Of Mnangagwa Results In Arrest For "Insulting The President"

A five-man gang of armed extortionists, who allegedly posed as military intelligence and police officers, is accused of extorting mining companies in the Matabeleland region while invoking the name of the First Family.
As reported by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200031845/eds-son-is-our-boss-armed-robbers">NewsDay</a>, three of the suspects—Munyaradzi Charakupa, Victor Jaja, and Tawanda Mangi—appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Evelyn Madzikatire on Tuesday. They face charges of impersonating public officials, attempted extortion, and extortion.
The suspects, who are being represented by Bryan Sengweni, were remanded in custody to Thursday.
Superintendent Edmore Runganga, the investigating officer, opposed their bail, arguing that they were a flight risk since their accomplices remained at large.
The suspects were exposed after they targeted some mines in which prominent Bulawayo lawyer Dumisani Dube is an interested party.
It is alleged that the suspects resorted to extorting money from the complainants to challenge a corporate rescue certificate that was held by Dube.
Runganga argued that if they were granted bail, they would interfere with witnesses since the racket seemed to be involving police officers and government officials.
The gang was apprehended after Dube sought assistance from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, Sean, and the Attorney-General’s Office, following persistent extortion attempts targeting mining firms associated with Dube.
In his statement, Dube said Sean disowned the gang and he told him to report it.
It is alleged that in February 2024, Jaja visited Dube’s office, falsely presenting himself as the former Officer-in-Charge of Beitbridge police now assigned to the President’s Office as part of the Police Protection Unit.
Jaja purportedly claimed he was on Sean’s security team, with Mangi as his superior.
Jaja and Mangi were allegedly accompanied by Charakupa and Pemba, who falsely identified themselves as military intelligence members assigned to protect the late War Veterans permanent secretary Clive Mphambela’s interests in Matabeleland.
Prosecutors also alleged that the suspects possessed a file containing special grant applications for Matabeleland South, including those of three of Dube’s mining clients.
They reportedly threatened to cancel these applications unless a protection fee of US$300,000 was paid to Sean, their purported boss.
Dube, in a statement signed at the CID Law and Order section, confirmed his refusal to pay the extortion fee. He said:

A month later, on April 24, 2024, I was appointed corporate rescue practitioner of Fools Investment (Pvt) Ltd by the Master of High Court under CRPB 1/24.
The accused subsequently came to my office claiming to be directors of Fools Investment and demanded US$ 200,000 each. Jaja showed me an official card from the Office of the President as his identification.

On the third count, the court heard that they attempted to extort Dube’s client of US$ 800,000.
The prosecution alleges that in the fourth count, the accused and their accomplices, who remain at large, on July 23, 2024, threatened to kill Dube unless he complied with their demands.
Following these threats, Dube was coerced into surrendering US$40,000 to Mangi.
In the fifth count, the four individuals allegedly compelled Dube to cover their accommodation expenses for three months during their purported special operation.
Under duress, Dube paid them US$4,000 and US$1,800 in the presence of Pemba and Daka after they threatened his life.
In total, they extorted US$55,300 from Dube on several occasions. A report was subsequently made to the police, leading to the arrest of the three suspects.

"Mnangagwa's Son Is Our Boss," Bogus Military Intelligence Officers Arrested After Extortion Spree Targeting Mines

A ZANU PF Member of Parliament has been brought before a magistrate for allegedly raping his ex-wife at gunpoint, resulting in her pregnancy and infection with HIV.
Tsungai Makumbe, who represents the Mazowe North Constituency in the National Assembly, appeared before Magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa on Tuesday.
He was remanded out of custody, with bail not being discussed since he was coming from home.
Makumbe is scheduled to return to court on October 3 for a routine remand hearing.
Prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti said that the alleged rape occurred in November 2023 and was reported earlier this week.
It is alleged that Makumbe arrived at the complainant’s residence around 10 PM and called his ex-wife outside, where she complied. Said Mutsokoti:

The accused person proposed love to the complainant, but the complainant refused.
The accused person pulled out a greyish pistol and placed it on the dashboard. He got out of the car from the driver seat and proceeded to the passenger seat where the complainant was seated and opened the passenger door where the complainant was seated and started to demand sex from the complainant.
The accused person suddenly pulled the complainant’s left leg down and twisted it and that led the complainant to stand on the ground.

It is alleged that Makumbe forced the complainant to bend over before raping her once without protection. This incident was not reported at the time.
Following the assault, Makumbe is said to have given the complainant US$20 to purchase morning-after pills to prevent pregnancy.
Subsequently, the woman sought treatment at Parirenyatwa Hospital, where she tested HIV positive and discovered that she was pregnant.

ZANU PF MP Allegedly Rapes Ex-Wife At Gunpoint

Ndapuwa Shaun Timba, the son of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim leader Jameson Timba, has been acquitted of disorderly conduct charges by Harare magistrate Collet Ncube.
Shaun Timba was reportedly a victim of circumstance, having been arrested alongside numerous CCC activists at his father’s home in Avondale, Harare, on June 16.
At the time of the arrest, it was reported that Shaun had visited his father to deliver a gift when police arrived and rounded up everyone present.
On September 4, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) said that despite Shaun’s acquittal, he missed the deadline to begin his studies abroad on Monday and has been forced to defer his educational pursuits. The ZLHR said:

In Zimbabwe, teenagers such as Ndapuwa Shaun Timba, the son of Senator Jameson Timba, have to go through unjustified persecution for three months for an offence, which they did not commit, only to be acquitted at the close of the prosecution case.
As a result of the persecution and prosecution, Shaun missed the deadline for commencing his studies outside Zimbabwe on Monday and has had to defer his education exploits. Magistrate Collet Ncube acquitted Shaun today.

Shaun Timba Found Not Guilty Of Disorderly Conduct

Magistrate Colleta Ncube on Wednesday, 04 September, acquitted Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim leader Jameson Timba and 77 other party activists of charges related to disorderly conduct.
The CCC activists had been detained for three months following their arrest in June at Timba’s residence.
According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), the “persecution” of these opposition activists has faced a “spectacular collapse.” ZLHR said:

The persecution and prosecution of Senator Timba and 77 Harare residents has suffered a spectacular collapse after Magistrate Colleta Ncube acquitted them of disorderly conduct charges having spent 3 months in prison detention following their arrest in June at Senator Timba’s residence.

The CCC activists were arrested at Timba’s house where they were commemorating the International Day of the African Child on 16 June 2024.
On 17 June, police charged the detainees with “gathering with intent to promote public violence and disorderly conduct.”
Meanwhile, ZLHR executive director Roselyn Hanzi said the acquittal of the accused persons on disorderly conduct charges by Harare magistrate Collet Ncube does not guarantee their release from detention. She elaborated in a post on X:

Of the 78 people arrested, only 12 have been discharged of all the crimes they were accused of, being charge of (i) Disorderly Conduct or in the alternatively (ii) Participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breaches of the peace or bigotry.
65 who include Jameson Timba will proceed to defence case on charge of “Participating in a gathering….” the trial of the 66th person is yet to commence as she was severely injured during the arrest.
Her trial is yet to commence after the procedure of separation of trial was invoked when she was hospitalised.

The accused persons listed below have been released after Ncube: “Taking into account that it was a gathering which attracted people who did not reside at the premises, also considering that there was pandemonium, it creates a prima facie case.”

Jameson Timba, 77 CCC Activists Acquitted Of Disorderly Conduct

Three pro-democracy campaigners—Robson Chere, Namatai Kwekweza, and Samuel Gwenzi—were granted bail by the High Court on Wednesday, September 4.
Chere is the secretary general of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), Kwekweza is a human rights activist, feminist, and constitutionalism advocate and the founder of WELEAD Trust, while Gwenzi is a CCC councillor in Harare.
The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) said the court’s bail conditions include a requirement for the trio to deposit an equivalent of US$150 in local currency with the clerk of court.
They must also report to the police on the last Friday of each month, avoid interfering with state witnesses, and reside at specified addresses.
The three were arrested on July 31 and charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly staging a protest at the Harare Magistrates Court.
The alleged protest aimed to demand the release of Jameson Timba, interim leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), and other opposition activists.
Harare Magistrate Ruth Moyo had initially denied bail, citing concerns about the activists potentially committing further offences, causing public unrest, and interfering with state witnesses.
Chere, Kwekweza, Gwenzi, and another individual, Vusa Moyo, were forcibly removed from a plane at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by unidentified state agents.
They were held incommunicado for several hours before being handed over to the police.
Their arrest has been condemned by UN independent experts, who have called for the charges to be dropped.
The experts allege that the activists were subjected to enforced disappearance, torture, and other forms of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment, including waterboarding.

Kwekweza, Chere And Gwenzi Finally Granted Bail

A 25-year-old man from Kuwadzana Extension, Harare, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of theft and unlawful possession of a firearm after he stole a gun from an accident victim.
The court heard that on June 28, 2024, around 9 PM, the accused, Bright Makuvatsine, was part of a group assisting a couple involved in a road traffic accident along Bulawayo Road near Sogo Service Station in Whitehouse, Harare.
During this time, Makuvatsine stole a satchel containing the couple’s belongings, which included a 9mm Sarsilmaz pistol.
Makuvatsine was arrested on August 23, 2024, when he was found in possession of the firearm at the Kuwadzana 6 Shopping Centre. He also helped recover some of the stolen property.
He was convicted and sentenced to 12 months in prison for the theft, with four months suspended.
Makuvatsine was also fined US$300 for unlawful possession of a firearm, with a default sentence of four months imprisonment if the fine is not paid.

Two Chiredzi residents, Fambidzanai Zvabva (39) and Mafanele Garfield Hlomani (26), have appeared before the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court on charges of culpable homicide following a tragic incident in which four people were killed due to an LPG cylinder fire and explosion.
According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Zvabva and Hlomani are accused of operating their LPG business without the necessary permits or licenses from the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA).
It is alleged that the accused persons’ gas cylinders developed a leak that caused a fire. As a result of this incident, five individuals sustained severe burns and required hospitalisation, with four of them ultimately succumbing to their injuries. Reads the statement:

Allegations are that the accused persons were unlawfully selling Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). On the 9th of December 2023 the accused persons’ gas cylinders developed a leakage causing a fire.
As a result of the incident five people sustained deep burns and had to be hospitalised. Four of them died as a result of the injuries.
Investigations revealed that the accused persons established a gas cylinder cage and put up gas cylinders at their business premises without the requisite permits or licenses.
This operation, which commenced between 2022 and 2023, was conducted in violation of local regulations and safety standards.
The state alleges that the accused’s failure to adhere to these requirements created a significant risk of harm to the public.
Furthermore, the accused did not obtain the requisite permits or licenses from the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA), local authorities or other relevant authorities, as stipulated by law.

The NPA said that the matter will return to court on the 4th of September 2024 for continuation of trial.

A 17-year-old boy from Kenilworth in Lukona Village, situated between Nkayi and Nyathi in Matabeleland North, has alleged that police officers unleashed four dogs on him and stood by while he was being mauled.
The teenager, identified as Sabelo Dube, was sent to a local shop when he found himself caught in the chaos as police attempted to disperse a rowdy crowd that had gathered following reports of a gold discovery at a nearby claim.
In an interview with CITE reporter <a href="https://cite.org.zw/author/senzeni/">Senzeni Ncube</a>, with permission from his guardian before being taken to a medical facility, Sabelo recounted his ordeal.
He is currently in severe pain and struggling to walk. Sabelo said police officers taunted him while he was being attacked by their dogs. He said:
<blockquote>
As I screamed for help, the officers taunted me, saying, ‘Yekele zikulume mbinjana’ (let them bite you a bit).
I was sitting at the shop when the police arrived in their vehicle. I didn’t know what was going on until I saw people running.
By the time I started to run, the dogs had already caught up with me and started biting. While I was screaming that the dogs were killing me, the officers told me to let them bite me a bit.
After being bitten, they wanted me to get into their vehicle, but I refused and hid. They kept searching for me, saying they wanted the dogs to bite me again, but they didn’t find me.

His uncle, Tanwell Mpofu, who accompanied him, revealed that the police had confiscated the original police report they had initially written. He said:

When my wife was supposed to take Sabelo to the hospital, they required a police report. The police initially wrote that he was bitten at the mine, even though he was actually at the shops.
When my brother, who was also at the clinic, took the report to Inyathi police station for correction, the officers told him to leave it, promising to correct it.

However, when Mpofu returned the following morning to collect the corrected report, the police began making excuses. He said:

We had to stop at Inyathi police station before coming to Bulawayo. When we called the officer who wrote the report, he said he wasn’t at the station and asked us to come by.
But when we arrived, the other officers claimed they couldn’t rewrite it as they didn’t know what was previously written.
This is truly painful. We are facing challenges even in getting to the hospital because we don’t have money and are unemployed.
We are now borrowing from neighbours to afford the trip to Bulawayo since the clinic back home is too far.

Jessie Majome, chairperson of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC), recently said law enforcement agents involved in unlawful arrests, detention, and brutality against civilians must be held individually accountable and liable for compensating victims.
She said Zimbabwe’s Constitution protects citizens from arbitrary arrests, harassment, torture, and degrading treatment.

17-year-old Boy Claims Officers Taunted Him During Attack By 4 Police Dogs

Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe, the son of the late former President Robert Mugabe, was arrested on Saturday after a confrontation with police officers at a security checkpoint in Bubi on the Masvingo-Beitbridge road.
Chatunga, 27, was travelling in a South African-registered Range Rover with a friend, heading to Harare for a wedding.
During the incident, he allegedly manhandled a police officer, accusing him of causing unnecessary delays.
Chief Superintendent Melusi Ncube, the Officer Commanding Beitbridge District, confirmed the incident, which occurred around 6 AM.
Mugabe was charged with disorderly conduct and illegal possession of a specified knife
Mugabe, who is being represented by Muchiwande Sithole of F Chauke and Associates, briefly appeared before Beitbridge resident magistrate, Takudzwa Gwazemba who did not ask him to plead to the charges.
He was remanded out of custody to 16 September for a provisional trial date.
Sithole told the court that his client had been assaulted by a police officer and was still experiencing back pain.
District public prosecutor Tinayeishe Matenga told the court that Chatunga arrived at a security roadblock in Bubi in a black Range Rover driven by his South African friend, Irvin Molokoza.
The vehicle was signalled to stop, and Molokoza was asked to produce his passport. However, Chatunga allegedly presented his own passport before Molokoza could comply.
Matenga said Molokoza was instructed to park by the roadside for security checks. He partially parked on the road and was then told to move further away from the main road.
At this point, Chatunga reportedly exited the vehicle and began shouting at the police officer, accusing him of causing delays for the fourth time, indicating he was rushing to a wedding in Harare.
It is alleged that Chatunga then manhandled the police officer. He was subdued by other officers, who, upon arresting him, found a flick knife in his possession

A 26-year-old man was arraigned before the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court in Bulawayo on three counts of rape.
The case involved a 17-year-old girl who had posted a message in a WhatsApp group in March 2024, seeking employment.
The court heard that on May 1, 2024, the accused contacted the girl, claiming his grandmother in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, needed a house helper. 
The girl travelled from Plumtree to Bulawayo on May 5, 2024, where she met the accused and his two friends. 
They first went to a beer garden before heading to the accused’s residence in Mpopoma. He promised to take her to Cowdray Park the next morning.
That night, the accused entered the room where the girl was sleeping, forcibly removed her clothes, and raped her twice.
He raped her again in the morning. The incident came to light when the girl reported it to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused.
The court convicted the accused and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

Bogus Employment Agent Jailed 20 Years For Raping Job Seeker (17)

The Headmaster and Deputy Head of a secondary school in Chiredzi District were recently arraigned before the Triangle Magistrates’ Court facing criminal abuse of duty charges.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the case emerged after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) received an anonymous tip alleging that the two had improperly included their children in the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) programme. BEAM is intended to assist underprivileged students.
However, the school head and his deputy bypassed established procedures to benefit their own children.
A thorough investigation revealed that each individual had unlawfully received US$120 for the year 2022 through this scheme. As a result, they were arrested and brought to trial.
Upon conviction, the court sentenced both defendants to 20 months in prison. However, 6 months of the sentence were suspended for 5 years, contingent on their good behaviour.
Additionally, 2 months were suspended on the condition that they pay restitution to the Social Services Department.
The remaining 12 months of their sentence were also suspended, provided they completed 420 hours of community service.

The headmaster and deputy head of a school in Chiredzi were found guilty of putting their own kids in a program meant for poor students. They got money that wasn't supposed to go to them. Headmaster And Deputy Head In Chiredzi Convicted Of BEAM Fraud

Two men accused of being involved in a same-sex relationship have appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on sodomy charges.
Tavimbanashe Chawatama (28) and Leonard Nyakudya (25) lived together and allegedly engaged in consensual same-sex relations, reportedly recording their encounters using their mobile phones.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed the case, saying the relationship came to light when one accused the other of stealing his money, prompting them to involve the police in the dispute. The NPA said:

It is the State’s case that the two men got into a relationship some time in August 2023. They lived together and allegedly had consensual same-sex relations. The State also alleges that they would at times record themselves in the act using their mobile phones.
The matter came to light on the 27th of August 2024 when an altercation arose between the two wherein the first accused person accused the second accused of infidelity. The argument escalated and the second accused decided to move out of the house.
When the second accused person was about to move out, the first accused noticed that his money was missing. The two accused persons decided to involve the Police to resolve the issue of the missing money. 
The accused persons inadvertently furnished the Police with details of the crime of sodomy as they narrated the issue of the missing money and their living arrangements resulting in their subsequent arrest.

Chawatama and Nyakudya were granted US$50 bail each and the matter was remanded to 06 September 2024.

Two men are accused of being in a same-sex relationship and facing sodomy charges in court. They lived together and recorded their activities on their phones. The case came to light when one accused the other of stealing money, leading to involvement of the police. Both accused men were granted bail and the case was scheduled for September. The National Prosecuting Authority confirmed the case and stated that the men had engaged in consensual same-sex relations. The accused men inadvertently revealed their crime while trying to resolve the money dispute with the police.

Dispute Over Money Exposes Alleged Same-Sex Relationship

A traditional leader in Mashonaland East Province, Chief Seke, has been taken to court for allegedly chanting a slogan in support of amending the Constitution to allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa to extend his term beyond 2028, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200031777/traditional-leader-in-trouble-over-ed-2030-campaign">NewsDay</a>.
Stanley Chimanikire, the designated Chief Seke, faces legal action from pro-democracy campaigner Esther Vongai Zimudzi, who claims he publicly endorsed the “Mnangagwa 2030” slogan.
This incident reportedly occurred during a recent address at a meeting in the Seke communal lands. He allegedly said:

2030 VaMnangagwa vanenge vachitonga, Pamberi neZANU PF. Pasi nemhandu, which loosely translates to “Mnangagwa will still be ruling in 2030, forward with ZANU PF, down with the enemy”.
</blockquote>
In an application filed by Zimudzi’s lawyer, Obey Shava of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), pro-democracy campaigner Zimudzi alleges that Chief Seke violated several provisions of the Constitution.
She cites Section 281 of the Constitution and Section 45 of the Traditional Leaders Act, arguing that Chief Seke’s endorsement of President Mnangagwa and his pledge of allegiance to ZANU PF is unconstitutional.
Zimudzi contends that her political rights and the expectation of impartial and apolitical conduct by traditional leaders have been infringed upon.
Zimudzi claims that Chief Seke’s statements violate Sections 67(1) and (2) of the Constitution, which guarantee political rights, as well as Section 281, which mandates that traditional leaders remain impartial and non-partisan.
In her application, Zimudzi has named the National Council of Chiefs, Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe, and Attorney-General Virginia Mabhiza as respondents.
The matter is yet to be scheduled for a hearing at the High Court. Zimudzi seeks an order compelling Chief Seke to retract his partisan statements published in national newspapers and requests that the National Council of Chiefs initiate disciplinary proceedings against him.
While President Mnangagwa’s second and final term is set to expire in 2028, some of his loyalists within ZANU PF are pushing for an amendment to the Constitution that would allow him to remain in power until 2030.
However, Mnangagwa has repeatedly affirmed his commitment to stepping down at the end of his constitutionally mandated two terms in 2028.

Chief Seke supported changing the law so President Mnangagwa can rule until 2030. A woman is suing him for breaking the constitution. She says traditional leaders should not be political. The case is going to the High Court. Some people want Mnangagwa to stay in power until 2030, but he says he will step down in 2028. Traditional Leader Sued For Endorsing Term Extension For Mnangagwa

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of five suspects in connection with a murder case in Wedza.
The suspects, identified as Peter Mandeya (65), Simbarashe Mandeya (40), Felix Chigodora (24), Brain Mandeya (21), and Munashe Chigodora (25), are accused of violently assaulting 37-year-old Cadilla Njodzi, who was known to be a mental patient.
The incident occurred on July 30, 2024, at Peter Mandeya’s residence in Chihowa Village, Svosve, Wedza.
Reports indicate that the altercation began after Njodzi allegedly vandalised property belonging to Mandeya, including destroying a wooden door and breaking the rear mirror of a Nissan Hardbody vehicle. 
In retaliation, the suspects reportedly assaulted Njodzi with switches and their booted feet, inflicting severe injuries.
Njodzi was subsequently hospitalised due to the injuries sustained during the assault. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on August 31, 2024, while receiving treatment at a local hospital in Wedza.

Five people from Hwedza village in Zimbabwe have been arrested for killing a man with mental problems. The man, Cadilla Njodzi, was hurt badly when the suspects attacked him for breaking things at their home. He was taken to the hospital but sadly passed away from his injuries. The attack happened at Peter Mandeya’s house on July 30, 2024. The suspects, Peter Mandeya (65), Simbarashe Mandeya (40), Felix Chigodora (24), Brain Mandeya (21), and Munashe Chigodora (25), used sticks and their boots to beat Njodzi, causing severe harm.

Five Hwedza Villagers Fatally Assault Mental Patient

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the son of the late former President Robert Mugabe, has been arrested in Beitbridge.
According to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200031686/chatunga-mugabe-arrested-in-beitbridge">NewsDay</a>, Chatunga was taken into custody for violent conduct after allegedly assaulting a policeman at a roadblock in Bubi, located 80 kilometres north of the border town. It is alleged that he brandished a knife during the altercation, leading to charges of resisting arrest.
Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube, the officer commanding the Beitbridge Police District, confirmed the arrest to NewsDay, though he stated he did not have further details.
Chatunga reportedly arrived at the Bubi roadblock at 6 AM, driven by a Chinese driver, and became impatient when police requested the vehicle’s documents and identification. Said a NewsDay source:

He started shouting at the police saying you are delaying us, do you know who I am? He then angrily and violently grabbed a Support Unit officer by the collar and tore off his shirt buttons in the process.

At that moment he is alleged to have produced a specified Okapi but was subdued and arrested by police who took him to Beitbridge Rural Police Station for further management.

Chatunga Mugabe, son of the former President of Zimbabwe, was arrested for attacking a police officer at a roadblock. He allegedly got angry when asked for his car's documents, grabbed an officer, and tore his shirt. Chatunga even had a knife. The police arrested him and took him to the station. This happened in Beitbridge, a town in Zimbabwe. Mugabe's son is in trouble now because he attacked a policeman.

Chatunga Mugabe Arrested For Assaulting A Policeman

Police have arrested five suspects in connection with armed robbery and attempted robbery at BancABC in Kamativi, Matabeleland North Province.
In a statement released on 30 August 2024, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi identified the suspects as Derren Tshuma (25), Proud Gumbo (30), Moyo Tamsanqa (33), Michael Donald Sibanda (26), and Majority Ndlovu (26).
Commissioner Nyathi confirmed that the suspects are linked to five armed robbery cases that occurred in Victoria Falls and Hwange between 31 December 2022 and 30 June 2024. Below is the statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of five suspects in connection with a series of armed robbery cases in Hwange and an attempted armed robbery at BancABC Bank, Kamativi on 27 August 2024.
The suspects are Derren Tshuma (25), Proud Gumbo (30), Moyo Tamsanqa (33), Michael Donald Sibanda (26) and Majority Ndlovu (26).
On 27th August 2024, Police conducted surveillance around Banc ABC Bank, Kamativi after receiving information about a planned robbery at the bank.
A gunshot was later heard and three suspects were seen fleeing. Police gave a chase leading to the arrest of Derren Tshuma and recovery of a spent cartridge as well as a National Identification card stolen at a garage in Hwange on 05th May 2024.
Further investigations by the Police led to the arrest of Proud Gumbo at a bus stop near Cross Dete along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road on 28th August 2024.
The arrest led to the recovery of a Browning Pistol and the arrest of other suspects, Moyo Tamsanqa, Michael Donald Sibanda and Majority Ndlovu.
Subsequently, the suspects’ get-away cars, a Nissan AD Van, registration number, AGN 7534 and a Nissan Sunny vehicle, registration number ACD 5508, were recovered.
The suspects are linked to five cases of armed robbery which occurred in Victoria Falls and Hwange between 31st December 2022 and 30th June 2024, including a case of robbery which occurred at ZB Bank, Victoria Falls on 31st December 2022 where US$15 964.00 cash was stolen and another robbery case which occurred at a service station on 08th January 2024 where a security guard was stabbed with an okapi knife on the back before cash was stolen.
The suspects are also clearing a case of robbery which occurred at a bar at Lwendulu Village, Hwange on 02nd June 2024 where cash and cellphones were stolen.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police commends the public for providing valuable information which led to the arrest of the suspects.
Meanwhile, the Police is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the outstanding suspect, Mxolisi Sibanda.

Five people were arrested for robbing banks and businesses in Hwange and Victoria Falls. They were caught by the police after a planned bank robbery at BancABC in Kamativi. The suspects are linked to five robberies that happened between December 2022 and June 2024. Police caught them after they tried to rob the bank and fled. They found guns, stolen items, and getaway cars. The public helped the police catch them, but one suspect is still on the run. Police are asking for more information to catch him.

Five Arrested For Multiple Armed Robberies In Hwange And Victoria Falls

A member of Parliament from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Happymore “Bvondo” Chidziva, has been reported to the police for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl, who is reportedly related to his wife.
Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), confirmed on Friday, 30 August that the victim and her family have filed a rape complaint at Harare Central Police Station. Said Commissioner Nyathi:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that a report of Rape allegations against Happymore Chidziva (MP Glenview North) has been made by a complainant and her family at Harare Central Police Station this afternoon.
</blockquote>
Last week, the girl’s family filed a missing person’s report at the Budiriro 2 Police Station, saying the girl was last seen with the Glenview North MP, who had allegedly promised to find her a job.
A family spokesperson told <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/ccc-mp-happymore-chidziva-charged-with-rape-on-16-year-old-minor/">ZimLive</a> that Chidziva was entrusted with the minor, who is a cousin to the 43-year-old lawmaker’s wife.
Chidziva had reportedly promised to find the girl a job.
The family says it has seen evidence that Chidziva has been sleeping with the teen after tests conducted at an adult rape clinic in Harare confirmed she is sexually active.
The girl has been missing for two weeks now with the family claiming she was last seen in the company of the CCC legislator. The girl’s aunt, Stabile Dewa said:

She has been gone for almost two weeks. We suspect he is hiding her somewhere. Chidziva should release the girl and let the law take its course. I just want justice for my brother’s daughter. He cannot just come and ruin my family.

The MP initially agreed to speak with ZimLive but later declined.
In a voice note sent to the girl’s aunt, which ZimLive has obtained, the MP admitted to offering the girl transportation on the day she went missing but denied any romantic involvement.
Under Zimbabwean law, it is a criminal offence for an adult to engage in sexual activity with a child under 18 years of age.
The family is now represented by Webster Jiti of Jiti Chambers.

CCC MP Happymore Chidziva Accused Of Raping 16-Year-Old Relative

The High Court has ordered the return of Justice Mayor Wadyajena’s fleet of vehicles, which were seized by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) in 2022.
The seized vehicles, including haulage trucks and a Lamborghini SUV, were part of an investigation into allegations that the former Gokwe-Nembudziya MP (ZANU PF) defrauded the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (COTTCO).
Wadyajena, along with six others, including some COTTCO managers, was arrested and charged in 2022 with three counts of money laundering and three counts of fraud.
They were accused of defrauding COTTCO of millions of US dollars by creating false invoices for the supply of bale ties to the state-owned company.
Prosecutors alleged that the funds obtained from these activities were laundered through various companies in which Wadyajena and his associates had interests.
On February 6, 2023, the magistrates’ court refused a further remand, advising the state to proceed via summons. However, ZACC retained possession of the vehicles, claiming they needed 30 days to conduct parallel investigations.
Wadyajena subsequently applied for and received a High Court order for the return of his vehicles. A judgment in his favour was issued in May, but ZACC appealed the decision to the Supreme Court.
In response, Wadyajena filed an urgent High Court application for leave to execute the judgment while awaiting the Supreme Court’s determination.
In his ruling, Justice Tawnda Chitapi agreed with Wadyajena’s legal team that the continued seizure of his trucks was prejudicing him of potential revenue.
The judge said, “trucks are meant to be mobile and not be parked”.

The High Court said that the vehicles taken from Wadyajena should be given back to him. His vehicles were taken by ZACC because they thought he did bad things with money at COTTCO. Some people, including Wadyajena, were arrested for money laundering and fraud. They were accused of stealing lots of money from false invoices. The court said ZACC had to return the vehicles, but ZACC wanted more time to investigate. Wadyajena asked the court to make ZACC give back the vehicles. The judge agreed because Wadyajena needed his trucks to make money.
