Headmaster Fined $300 For Injuring Pupil

A headmaster at a secondary school in Mudzi was ordered to pay a $300 fine after he assaulted and broke the arm of a pupil.

Jonathan Mwashaireni, who is the headmaster at Bangauya Secondary School in Mudzi, broke the arm of a 15-year-old female pupil for coming to school late.

Mwashaireni appeared before Mudzi provincial magistrate Takunda Mtetwa last week and was charged under section 90 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for negligently causing serious bodily harm to the pupil (name withheld for ethical reasons).

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was slapped with a wholly-suspended four-month jail term and a $300 fine.

The four-month jail term was suspended for five years on condition that he did not commit an offence that involves violence.
