Riot police have blocked United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) doctors at Ascot Shopping Centre. They reportedly took Albert Nyoni’s phone and destroyed it after he was seen recording proceedings. Doctors are marching against the disappearance of the president of Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association, Dr Peter Magombeyi.
The medical doctor went missing on Saturday after he had led a doctors’ protest over the erosion of their salaries and working conditions.
Observers say that the disappearance was state-sanctioned considering that he received threats over leading the protests against the Government’s failure to address the economic crisis.
Others say that even if it was not the state responsible for his Magombeyi’s disappearance, it was the state’s responsibility to protect him as a citizen and to locate him wherever he is.
