State Intensifies Efforts To Confiscate Kasukuwere's Mansion Again

The Prosecutor General, Kumbirai Hodzi has approached the courts in a bid to confiscate again the mansion belonging to a former cabinet minister, Saviour Kasukuwere who is currently in exile.

Hodzi is, through his application, seeking to bar Kasukuwere from dealing with the property or disposing of it pending the resolution of the dispute.

The State acknowledges that Kasukuwere was acquitted of his charges but also raises the issue of contempt of court. Hodzi said:

The decision by the judge a quo to proceed to determine the matter in such circumstances was grossly irregular. The fact that the applicant’s charges were quashed does not purge his contempt and fugitive status.

Kasukuwere had forfeited the mansion to the state after failing to appear in court for his abuse of office case. The property had been registered as surety.

After forfeiting his mansion, Kasukuwere who had been acquitted of his criminal abuse of office charges successfully applied for the release of the property.
