South Africa To Implement Stage1 Of Load Shedding This Saturday

South Africa power utility, ESKOM has announced that it will this Saturday start implementing stage 1 of load shedding.

The development was confirmed by Eskom’s spokesperson, Dikatso Mothae who said that the load shedding status for Sunday will only be confirmed on Saturday.

The development will have an impact on Zimbabwe’s power situation since Zimbabwe imports 400 megawatts of power from South Africa.

Zimbabwe and South Africa agreed that power supply to Zimbabwe will decrease in the event that South Africa has a load shedding.

Zimbabwe which is also importing electricity from Mozambique is facing a huge power deficit which authorities attribute to dwindling water levels at the Kariba Dam and ageing equipment at the Hwange Power Station as well as vandalism of transformers by thieves.

The deficit resulted in the local power utility, ZESA, rolling out 18-hour power cuts which have had a huge adverse impact on the economy.
