ZRP Claim One Of The Helmets Discovered Near MT House Belonged To A Police Officer Who Was Stoned To Death In 2016

The ZRP has reportedly started a full investigation into the helmets case as they claim one helmet among the ones found at Robinson House in Harare belonged to a slain police officer the late Sergent Phiri, the Herald reports.

This comes after helmets were found at Robinson House in Harare this week, belonging to one Mitchel Chibwe who claimed he bought them at an ABC Auction.

Speaking about ZRP opening the case the Assistant  Commissioner  Nyathi said the police had positively identified Sgt Phiri’s helmet among the discovered helmets;

The helmet was the one used by the late Sgt Phiri who was stoned to death in town. During the attack, a female officer was also seriously injured and spent time in hospital.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner-General of Police has instituted full investigations into the alleged disposal of police riot helmets to members of the public.

Sgt Phiri reportedly died from injuries sustained after being stoned by vendors in a campaign in Harare in 2016.
