Gold Dealer Battling For Life After Being Shot & Robbed

A Bulawayo gold dealer, Thulani Moyo has been admitted to the intensive care unit at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo after he was shot and robbed at his home on Tuesday at around 2 PM.

The armed assailants got away with over US$40 000 cash, 400 grams of gold and other valuables including two Huawei cellphones and a Samsung cellphone, all worth over US$65 000.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango said that Moyo received a call from one of the assailants who pretended to be a gold seller. The gold dealer sent his employee to fetch the caller who came with five others in a Fun Cargo car.

They gave the smelter about 13.5 grammes of gold before proceeding to the weighing and selling office where Moyo was with Fidelity Printers buying agent.

When the gold was being weighed, two robbers produced a pistol and a revolver and demanded money and gold and also ordered Moyo to lie down. They shot him in the abdomen whilst he tried to get down.

Before they departed on foot, they also hit one of the employees on the head with a pistol butt and he suffered a deep cut on the back of the head.
