All Apex Council Members Free To Participate In Demonstration

The government has ‘finally’ allowed citizens to stage a demonstration in Harare after police commander for Harare central district, Oscar Mugomeri notified the Apex Council that it can go ahead with its protest set for November 6, 2019.

Spokesperson of the Apex Council, the umbrella body for civil servants labour unions, David Dzatsunga, gave a few details about the proposed march. He said:

The Apex Council and ordinary membership will participate in the protest. The march will start from the Public Service Association at 10 am to Kaguvi Building, where a petition will be handed over to the Minister of Labour or whoever is representing her.

Some public-sector unions, particularly those representing teachers, have pulled out of the Apex Council accusing the body of being used by the government to oppress civil servants.

Meanwhile, civil servants are demanding the restoration of their pre-October 2018 US dollar salaries to be indexed to the interbank market rate.
