Govt, Doctors' Meeting Ends With No Resolution - Report

A meeting between doctors’ representatives and the Minister of Health and Childcare, permanent secretary in the Ministry Dr Agnes Mahomva, and Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube has ended without a resolution.

This was revealed by journalist Hopewell Chin’ono on Twitter. The government refused to budge on US$160 per month it had offered the doctors (after doubling the figure from the current US$80). The doctors have rejected the revised offer.

On Tuesday, the Health Services Board announced that it had fired 77 doctors for refusing to report for duty after the Labour Court ordered them to do so.

Doctors at Zimbabwe’s public health institutions have been on strike for over two months demanding better wages after their earnings were eroded by hyperinflation.
